| Dark/SR....EDIT: Claws/SR |
|
|
|
So, I was thinking about rolling a Dark Melee/Super Reflexes and slotting the Dark attacks for the ToHit Debuff to correlate with the SR effects.. Is this worth doing? And how many slots do I need to allocate the ToHit Debuff?
And of course sample builds are welcome! :D

If you slot the attacks for debuff, I wouldn't dedicate more than one slot to it in each attack. I haven't gotten that far into mine, but the attacks do seem to debuff fairly well on their own. I think I have a build somewhere that I did for Incubus Knight, but I have to find it first.

Thanks Knick.
I plan on getting Hasten. I want to take Fly as my travel power, and I figure Air Superiority is a better path than Hover considering this is a scrapper. And of course the Fitness pool. Which leads me to my next question(s): If I pick up Quickness from SR, should I get Swift or Hurdle from Fitness? Part of me wants to take Swift and slot both it and Quickness for Fly Speed. Am I better off taking Hurdle and just slot-up Quickness and Fly with speed enhancers?
I'm new to SR, so I'm curious what powers are usually skipped as well as normal slotting. From what I've heard, putting an EndRed in the toggle SR powers is a good idea. Is that true?

Id get quickness, as it boosts more then your running speed, but if you get swift think of the mega fastness you could have (specially if you slotted it a few slots >_<) but hurdle can be preacticle to, depends do you have the need for speed?

Air Superiority is definitely the way to go if you want Flight on a melee toon. It has a rather quick recharge on its own, and with Hasten, it can almost be it's own attack chain. Definitely take Quickness and slot it for speed. I know you told me you've been using SS more lately, so you should be able to handle the extra running speed fine.
Without looking at the numbers, I have to say that slotted Swift and Quickness is a close second in speed to SS, but not quite that fast. If you want speed in missions and in the air, go with swift instead of hurdle. With flight, you don't really need the vertical boost all that much, and instead of trying to jump up to a high place, toggle flight for a few moments to get up there.

So I'll take both Swift and Quickness. What's the easiest way to reach the Fly speed cap? I tend to 3 slot Fly with speed. With that, how should Swift and Quickness be slotted to reach the Fly speed cap?

Currently, it is impossible to reach the flight speed cap unaided, barring the GvE jump jet. Slottiing Swift/Quickness/Lightning Reflexes for Fly Speed will make a big difference for Hover speed, but much less for Fly's speed. It is generally best to stick to the base slot in those powers outsideof PvP buids, as the return for extra slots is minimal. Slot as prefered, but I'd choose Run speed for a scrapper, for faster combat Mobility.
As far as SR goes, take EVERYTHING. The passives all (except quickness) provide scaled resistance to all based on your current HP. The more damage you take, the less you take, so to speak. Combined with the phenominal amount of defense available from the SR toggles, and Dark's Tohit Debuffs, and you'll be just short of a tanker, and quite able to fill in in a pinch in later levels. And if you take Siphon Life, you won't need to pick up Aid Self, which is a major plus. Also, slot Focused Fighting and Focused Senses for end redux on top of 3 defense enhancements. Evasion will most likely be less used throughout your career, only becoming important on large teams and AV fights, in which case your team can help make up for an endurance issues.
As far as Dark goes, don't slot for tohit debuff. The individual debuffs from each power are very minor, and slotting for them would yeild a very minor return, especially considering Tohit Debuff enhancements are on the 5/10/20% table. I'd slot end redux instead. Dark is a fairly end heavy set, and with Quickness, and Hasten if you take it, you shouldn't need to slot recharges. Slotting Dark for end redux will yield much less endurance issues.
Hope this helps,
Warron

I did that since my guy hadnt been changed since ED came out. I believe the only one I may of gave full slots to was Dodge but I cant recall at the moment.
Havent seen a difference either in the change. Plus all those extra slots can go into your attacks which I found nice.

I would personally say yes. The benefit of them is not a big one, but three slotting them will give you the max benefit from them. It's always nice to have powers that benefit you and not be costing you endurance. If your toggles ever go down for whatever reason, having the most defense possible in your autos can often mean the difference between winning the fight and a trip to the hospital.
The autos in SR are great even if they aren't as good as the toggles in the set. There are some that disagree and skip the autos, but I say 3 slot them and know that even stunned, you are going to be hard to hit.

With the ineffectiveness of slotting ToHit Debuffs in the DM powers, I have dropped that idea. My thoughts are now leaning towards Claws/SR. Claws is light on End, yes? How is the recharge? Would I need to take Hasten with Claws? Which powers are skippable?

Claws is a fine choice to go with SR. Claws alone doesn't need Hasten, and with Quickness from SR, it needs it even less. This allows you to slot it for end redux, or range in some cases, and have better utility from your powers.
Changing from Dark to Claws does has its downfall, though. Dark has Siphon Life, which combos well with SR. Not going dark means you'd want to pick up Aid Self to fill in that gap, which can be difficult to do. You also wouldn't have the Burst damage of Dark, instead opting for higher overall dps and some more reliable mitigation.
I worked up a build for you to get started from. It's solid, but somewhat malleable, so you can work with it to fit your own personal needs.

I both love and hate Warron. I love him because of his remarkable advice and number-crunching and builds. I hate him because of the same as it helps me fuel my altoholism. HaHa!
How important is Aid Self in actuality? I haven't teamed with many toons that have the Med pool so I don't have much experience with it.

Aid self is good except for the fact that you can be interrupted. If you but the enhancment that allows it to activate faster then it is not so bad. I am a huge regeneration fan. So when I take something else as a secondary I usually have to get the medicine pool set or struggle at times. It just depends on your build really. There are advantages and disadvantages depending on your playstyle.

Ditto on being the regen fan. I tried all scrapper secondaries and went back to regen.
Aid self is useful when you are in between fights and just expended your last respite and your self heals are already used and recharging. When it's a choice between wait 5 minutes while you heal or aid self it rocks. Other than that is usefulness is limited. It can be an alternative to rest and can be used in the same sort of situations, as in I have rested in the middle of the battle, but it is only in certain circumstances.
I'm not as familiar with Claws as some of the other sets. It is very fast on recharge and light on end. I wouldn't even think of taking hasten with SR and claws, but I'm not a huge user of hasten either. I can tell you I have a level 32 dark melee scrapper and I have finally decided that dark melee sucks, no pun intended. If you like being a dark defender and want to switch to scrappers it is for you. For me it doesn't have enough pure attacks.
I would think Claws and SR were probably made for each other. I know SR is kind of end heavy and claws is end light, so it should be an excellent combo.

On the topic of Aid Self, its great. It can be used in combat, believe it or not. Especially on an SR toon. Your defense means you'll be hit less, giving you time to get it off. The key is in the 2 (3 if your anal about it) Interupt Redux. The animation on it is long, meaning you won't be able to attack right away, but with the int redux in it, you'll see the green numbers over your head very quickly. As soon as you see them, your good to keep moving. With Quickness and either Swift or Hurdle, your best way to use it is to move quickly out of melee range, stop, and activate it. Getting out of melee means that the baddies will follow you, slower than you move. They won't attack you again until they are in melee range, at which point you've already gotten the green numbers from Aid Self and are good to go. I use this tactic with Warron using only Hurdle to bounce in and out of melee, and with just 2 Int Redux SOs, it works just fine. I very rarely have it interupted.
The end redux in it is important, as it does have a slightly annoying end cost, especially if its interupted and needs to be fired again right away. On Warron I put in a Recharge Redux in that slot, so it's up more often, but with Quickness, you shouldn't need that and are better off with an End Redux, considering SR's somewhat painful Endurance.
SR is somewhat painful in the early levels for endurance management, as you don't have SOs or Stamina to help with that. However, Claws comes cheap, which really helps counter SR's costs. With smart toggle management and a good supply of blues, you should be fine. Once you have Stamina slotted and SO End Redux in your toggles, you should be golden.
Also, don't slot the passives beyond the base. The return value from extra slots is very minor. Those slots are better placed into other powers, either attacks or toggles. Let the passives be powers that help you fully slot other powers. Besides, the true value of the Passives lies in the scaled resistence they give you, not the pitance of defense you get.

One thing to remember is that regeneration is good with any scrapper primary set for the endurance recovery so early.
Claws is good with any secondary for the low endurance cost to use until you get stamina at level 20. If I want to try a secondary besides Regen I use claws till I know what things to expect from the secondary. Then I try other combos.

Path accusing someone else of fueling his altoholism?
On topic, I just wanted to point out what I didn't see anyone else mention about claws. Besides being good damage in the later stages, they do also decrease the defense of your target with some of the attacks. Katana does the -def better, but claws has some really sweet attacks to it that make it a little more fun to play.

I have a 35 DM/SR and it was really frustrating to play in the earlier levels. However despite everyone's excellent advice I went with mostly the Auto powers in SR, cept of course Focused Fighting which you have to take. I just noticed that most all the Auto's had a toggle to match them, now a friend of mine proudly exclaims that i am just lucky as we can hit large mobs together and i walk out when we're done still in the green (course the heal in DM kinda helps :P ) I have no doubt that if you have both the toggles and the autos it would probably be pretty damn hard to hit you, however even with stamina fully slotted your blue will take a huge hit, so i respec'd out of most of the toggles and grabbed Dark Consumption and i must admit this is one of the only toons i have that i feel very comfortable with chargeing into a group of like 8-10 orange's and a couple of red bosses. but again maybe i am just lucky.
also as far as slotting you atk's with de-buffs, i agree with what was stated earlier they are not needed, stick with Acc and Dmg all my atks so far have two Acc and two Dmg, on account that dealing lots of dmg is good but if you can't hit anything you die. as far as hasten goes quickness is all you need granted it is not as fast as hasten but it is always on and once you grab most of the atks from the set you should never have to wait for your atks (unless you are slowed by some stupid bane of my existance Marksman with the icy bullet thing "grumble grumble")
again this is just my opinion based on my expeirence, my friends and wife have all tried SR with their toons and they hate it and would rather stick to Regen, so i think it is a tough set to play at first but if you tough it out, i think it is worth it. I still can't wait to grab elude c'mon 3 more levels!!! c'mon 38!!

I've got a Claws/SR now in Knick's new Zodiac SG. I love her so far.
I'm wanting to roll a Dark/SR on one of my regular servers so I'll actually play it. But I've got to stop rolling so many toons and just settle down with my existing army of alts.
