I know that such a thing is not conducive to rapid rebuilds, but for PvE characters that have obtained ascended sets of armor or boss unique weapons, the possibility of destroying items accidentally is an issue. i recently finished my set of Assassin Luxon Ascended armor and almost destroyed my guise. i thought i was applying a rune, but had double clicked on the expert salvage kit. Or, something we all encountered at one time or another: The overzealous "sell button" at merchants. Allowing me to "lock" my equipment would do away with things like that. Like donating faction to an alliance, you could simply type in your player name to "unlock" equipment setups. and you could make the feature optional.
Or, something i thought would be really nifty is "bound armor." players can pay a nominal fee of either gold or balthazar faction to have the armor bound to them which produces an additional (visual only or functional) effect where smoke, ice, or some other effect sort of hovers around it but at the cost of not being able to take it off unless you pay gold/faction. To the point, i would like to see my very time consuming, albiet attractive, equipment destroyed by accident. Especially if i never change my equipment anyway.

Welcome to the forums!!
Excellent Idea!! +cred for thee.
The number of times that i have almost done the same thing is not worth thinking about .Even if the armour is like 1.5k Canthan or something its the point that the armour can be salvaged which to those with the gold to spare would be rather annoyed about but not too bothered whereas those who maybe a bit more financially unstable maybe cursing the screen for a few minutes.
Not so much of a problem if you have a rune/insignia(NF Only) as you will get the salvage item window up first but this isnt always the case.

Of all times,
WELCOME TO GUILDWARS GAMEAMP!
The bound armor idea.. i dont like it. it'll soon turn into a system for people to differentiate from ""pro"" and ""newb""
I myself have enough gold for FoW armor, but i never get it. why? i dont want to be in a category where i'm ""pro like evryone else that has FoW""
i mean, any nublet with e-bay gold can get FoW. then again, its all that matters isnt it? the armor.
Some people in GA honesty have FoW and are good people, but you dont see much for their type around do you?most ""FoW "PROS" ""
just look at your armor and say, omfg look at that noob.
i got called a noob by a freaking lvl 16 just because i was wearing my chainmail armor(the canthan extotic armor male warrior armor)
Admittedly, you CAN accidently sell valueable items, which is why GW invented "unsellables" and "tick and un-tick the bags". to avoid accidently selling armor, put it in your last bag, or put a quest item infront of the armor pieces.
Again, you can un-tick the box that shows your equipment while you are merching(this will exclude all equipped items)
Anyway, Prestige armor/effects, no matter how cheap and easily obtainable, will always be used by "pros" and those who call themselves "pros" as dividers. hence the only divider is FoW/15k endgame/Hero titles

Welcome!
Good idea, but to be honest why not take it one step further and let you buyback accidently sold items like in WoW? It resets everytime you logout to prevent exploitation but it can be handy if you're in a rush and make a mistake.

I think the whole point of the topic was to disable the ability to accidentally destroy armour via salvaging. I would not believe that it was to increase *prestige* by giving armour effects.

*prestige* sometimes you have to be very, very, very observant about your mouse...you think maybe a-net will make it so that if you are salvaging your own armor they'll give you a warning msg? that'll be a better idea than "binding"

And sometimes you had better think before making sarcastic comments.
I made a simple point, you decided to quote me on it.
In future please refrain from doing so.

I can see the point of the main post, some ppl do accidently salvage armor or whatnot. But you can't expect Anet to put in every single thing to prevent ppl from doing silly things. Pay attention, there is seriously no need to rush to salvage things anyways.
People complained about the trade screen and Anet fixed it, yet it is all just a case of using your head and slowing down on clicking your mouse. Anet isn't making updates to help people that don't pay attention to help them out every single time.
So next time you are at the merchant, or salvaging things, ID things first, move what you don't want to sell or salvage to a secure bag, and read what you are selling/salvaging first, it will honestly cut down on a lot of mistakes.

I love the WoW idea of a buyback system if you sell the worng thing to the Merch...How much do you think he'd charge for those accidently lost Ectos?
My little tip is to put either a quest item or a minipet in the first slot of the bag in which you keep your armour. This way when you're hitting the sell button you'll come to a stop at this unsellable item instead of half way through your 2nd 15k set!
I keep weapons & armour in my bags and ID & salvage kits in my pouch, I keep an unsellable item in the first pouch slot and this saves all the stuff I don't want to sell. I only use my backpack space for transient goods.

I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but if you try to merchant anything that is customized to your character you get a warning message. You click sell and it comes up with 'Are you sure you want to sell Sundering Crystalline Sword of Fortitude?' And you of course say no. The same is true with salvaging now. You click on something to salvage it and a window comes up asking what you want to salvage, or you can click cancel. Personally, I don't think this is a problem at all. If you still manage to merchant or sell an expensive are set you must really be not paying any attention.
