| A new card brings new troubles |
|
|
|
Alas ive finally got my graphics card installed *dances which is swiftly interupted by a speeding double decker bus* however since i got it installed the internet has been off. My pc cannot connect to the internet, the software is half the problem, since it now wont let me uninstall it, the F drive is incorrect apparently, well theres nothing in my f drive and i get the same message when i plug my D-link into the f drive. (i use a wireless adapter, usb style). So currantly i finnaly have the card (link below, might help any of you guys who ahve a clue whats going on) to play the game but now the nets gone, typical that nothing should run smoothly in life isnt it ¬_¬
Anywhom i had a simular problem when i first installed the D link, it wouldnt install for about a month, i followed the instructions in the manual and the useless guide from a company employee letter to letter. In the end i forked out £50 to get some guy to coem and fix it. He did a system reboot, so i had to loose all my files but at least the net installatino worked before. Essentally he restored the original factory settings.
Problem is i cannot re-restore my pc to factory settings because my new card is not part of the factory components, taknig it out and reinstalling it will leave me in the same place that i am now. So i cant restore my pc to factory settings, that wont work and ive tried everything the manual says, the net says and i even phoned up one of my ict teachers at college (yes im that determind to get this problem solved, waiting for over a year is far to lnog and my patience has dissolved) and followed his advice. nothing!
So im stuck with a faulty program that wont allow me to remove it, so no internet and a brand new card just beggin me to play CoV
card review
Ampers i need your help and all advice is greatly accepted and needed. Heck ill send you all cookies in the mail if i must!

I am not 100% certain what the problem is, the information you gave isn't clear enough (and I don't know what all has been tried) but i'm going to attempt to assist anyway, I will assume your using winXP, if not then locate information for IRQs for your particular OS, hardware is hardware so the rest should be the same.
I have been using computers since 1977 and have gained a good working knowledge of them, I even repair and upgrade on the side for people, jsut an FYi its's rather hard to diagnose a problem without being infront of the problem computer so take this assistance as such.
Have you checked to see if there is an IRQ/hardware conflict, it sounds like perhaps the new videocard is using the same IRQ as the net connection, this would be one cause of the problem your having, it would not be fixable by reinstalling either OS or Software since it has to do with the assigned IRQs.
It would also explain many other problems your having.
You may have used up your available system IRQs, in this case you will need to manually assign an IRQ (since often there are reserved IRQs) there are a few ways to do it, some devices let you assign an IRQ physically (jumper on device or mainboards etc) or you can assign it within the OS or by accessing the BIOS during startup of your computer.
Here are some links to IRQ information and working with:
http://computing-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/IRQ
http://kadaitcha.cx/irq_conflicts.html
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314068
I hope this helps some.

Ok thats the closest i could get mine is the older model of that one (pc, however they are near enough the same)) but the d link modem is spot on. I shall look into your suggestion, but being crap with tech (belive it or not...) i might not follow
I shall report back in the morning after i treid some stuff
Thanks, but please keepany more ideas coming...
(Things ive tried: Debugging, software remove/reinstalation obstructive program removal (now it wont let me remove programs ¬_¬ its not like ive been going in the core files) system resets internet resets (downstairs) ect

I just noticed it said (USB 2.0 Compliant) do you have your USB drivers up to date though you should have the current version of USB running its possible you missed the update, just check and make sure USB 2.0 is the current version.
There is also the posibility that the device itself is faulty, new hardware can be DOA. Try to install it in someones elses computer and see if it works or causes the same problem.
Its possible the driver files have been corrupted, use a different computer and download the drivers from the makers website and try those, it should be possible to overwrite the faulty drivers with working ones, just say [YES] to overwrite or install to the same directory as original (I am guessing you used default and that usually means in C:\Program Files.) Rule of thumb for hardware drivers is by the time you purchase the device with drivers the manufacturer has usually updated them (drivers/firmware) even more reason to download current drivers.
You might also try disabling onboard LAN drivers from within your BIOS, enabled could cause a conflict with the USB Network as well, call manufacturer and find out if you have to disable onboard LAN or alter BIOS settings. Unless you are using your onboard LAN for some reason.

Ok i tried some of that and the hardware works fine on the other pc in my house but still is a dead zone on my pc. I had it at one point where all i could do was use the internet, but nothing else i couldnt use or open any other program (however i could still shut it down safely, after i shut it down and rebooted the problem stopped)
I know what will solve this problem, the axe in my garage cause to be fair im starting to get really fed up with computers...
Its wierd my pc seems to be a tad b*****ed and yeah ive tried changing around the irq for hardware but its not really responding...

I guess other then an Axe, compare the computer that it works on with the computer that it doesn't and see what the differences are, perhaps your motherboards chipset doesn't like certain devices.
Next best thing is return it and get a different model device, I am pretty sure that when you explain it does not work on your system you will be able to return it.
I don't really know what else to try, I really wish I had it in front of me so I could see what it was doing, read all the error messages, hear the system run and so on.
I wish you luck with it.
If you do figure it out let me know, I will try to think of something else.

Okay, Hell. I would suggest this:
Dump the funky lil USB Wireless Network Thing
Sure it's cute, but if the USB is swiping an IRQ that you need for the graphics; dump it like last month's lasagna. Keep it for another PC or a laptop. I would suggest laptop because of its design. Pick up a wireless NIC CARD (D-Link if possible, but any will work), and install it. I bet that will clear up your problem easily and on the cheap. You can pick those up for a song.
If that doesnt work; I think I've got a suggestion, but since it will be a pain; I will hold off suggesting it.
Good luck.
::: If you do have to ask for my other suggestion; you will need to pick up a .38 Special, two midgets, some snowshoes, and a jelly donut first. Dont ask. :::

Well i stormed home in a bit of a mood today and i looked at my computer, cursed it a few times and then preformed a system restore, i restored my system back to what it orginally was 2 weeks ago before my card was fitted. I installed the new software for my new card after it finished (i tried this before but it didnt work then and made my pc almost completly bugger up to teh ponit i couldnt open any programs ect). Then i unistalled and reinstalled the software for my usb net adpater. It didnt work. I remember swearing very loudly and perants giving me a earfull and i was about to crush the little USB under my foot (where the dammed thing belongs). I went downstairs and played on FFVII Dirge of Ceberus for half hour and came back up and look at the USB. I tried plugging it into a different usb port, still nothing. Then i tried another, nothing. I took the USB out of its cradel and plugged it in, third (well closer to thirty third) time lucky! so now i got my net worknig and my pc fully resorted and working 102% as for the cradel, well i shall meet my friend the scissors ¬_¬ i bet thats what the dammed problem was and i was stupid enough to be oblivous to it. Either that or i have some faulty USB ports in my pc tower
Eitherway a long war ended. I hope i dont go through all this when i get that new sound card -_-, im thinking play it safe and dont bother...
