Character Names

Just as the topic says, how do you name your characters?

I actually give them names that sound like names that kind of fit their description a bit and usually make Anushe their last name so their just one great big happy family. ^_^ So no I Pwn U All or something like that for me.

Darius Anushe - Warrior
Valdityr Anushe - Ranger
Vladimir Anushe - Necromancer

I name my characters based on their profession.

So my nickname, X + profession, example:

Dragonius Xm, would be my monk
Dragonius X is my main character, 19 month old ele
Dragonius Xr is my ranger.etc

well my warrior was named after my fav film of the time he was created, Conquerer Aragorn. My monk is Arianna Travis and i just thought of a name and added Travis to it, since thats my name. The rest of my characters will all have the surname Travis as i like people to easily recognise me when i get online.

None of my character names match - I like to be awkward ^^

Lady Alica - my warrior and my first character. Inspired and created with the help of Lady Balthamos
Xun Yin - my ellie. Inspired again by Balth's ellie, Xuni Spellbreaker, and we found Yin on a site called Behind The Name
Mei Lifebringer - my disused monk, inspired by Balth's monk, Mai Lifebringer. The plan was for them to go around as identical twins, but that didn't work cause I'm not a very good monk ^^
Aika Jian Ni - my ranger, this comes from Behind The Name, I like Chinese/Japanese names
Kaisa Kimura - my necro, again from Behind The Name
Angel Of Huggles - my dervish, made around the same time as Balth's derv, Angel Of Hugs

Yes, Balth is usually around when I make a character ^^

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons...for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup.

I have 7 chars, 5 of which have matching names. I like to use the Prefix Celtic on those 5 chars. Not sure why....I just started using it one day lol :P.

Celtic Queen (Warrior)
Celtic Guard (Warrior)
Celtic Deathdealer (Necromancer)
Celtic Whisperer (Ritualist)
Celtic Whirlwind (Dervish)

And my other two are random ones:

Zephyr Storm (Elementalist)
Soothing Mistress (Monk)

I guess their names kinda fit the description of their main professions. Anyway, this is how I name my chars. Cheers ^_^

All my characters surnames are based on the novels by Terry Goodkind: Sword of Truth. The main characters all have their own little 'profession'; eeg Zedd Zu'll Zorrander is a wizard; so my ele is called 'Maya Zorrander'. Richard Cypher (Rahl) is a woodsguide in essence; so my ranger is called Maya Cypher etc.

Azdion Bonegrinder:Necro lvl 20
Krazden Razorclaw: Assasin lvl 20
Bily Bob Bad Azz: Ele lvl 20
Sir Renecane: pvp
Genearal Renecane: Warrior lvl 20
Wonderboy Dio Lee: Dervish lvl 20

All of these name I made up by myself except my ele which i was just stumped for a neame for him so i did that one lol I thought it was good because ele's are bad azz and do bad azz dmg.

Anvil Chorus - from Verdi's Il Trovatore
Mera Pyar Shalimar - a song by Secret Chief's Three
Blue Savannah - a song by Erasure
Awesome Joel - is the frontman's name from a Ninja Rap band that my friend is in.
Alone you Breathe - A song by Savatage
Handful of Rain - A song by Savatage

And then stuff thats just random

Sometimes Never - I wanted Charlotte Sometimes but it was taken, and then I tried a couple of other things then stuck with Sometimes Never because I was never going to get anyhing else
Gordon Schumway - This was ALF's real name.
Gracie the Paragon - I was completely uncreative that day
Jenesis Soulcrush - I was also uncreative, and let my friend name him.

Most of my characters have the last name, "Merides", which comes from the term for the regional districts of Macedonia under the rule of Phillip II (how's that for obscure?) I picked it just 'cause it sounded cool. :)

Warrior: Ariana Merides (main char). "Ariana" was an ancient Persian word for anyone born in the Persian territories.

Monk: Delphina Merides. Saint Delphina is the patron saint of brides.

Ele: Trieste Merides. Trieste is named after the city on the Adriatic Sea, reknowned for its literature and music.

Mesmer: Ellisandre Merides. "Ellisande" means "The Rose of the Sun" in the Old Tongue, from the Robert Jordan series, The Wheel of Time.

Ranger: Solitaire Merides. Solitaire is the lonely ranger/assassin - my solo char that is working towards the Survivor title.

Rit: Rhiannon Merides. "Rhiannon" is derived from the Celtic for "great queen", and is based on the character from Celtic mythology.

Derv: Sharine Merides. Just a cool sounding name.

My Paragon is named after the Roman general responsible for most of the conquest of Britain, Gnaius Julius Agricola. I just gave him a different first name: Marcus Agricola

My Necro, I just gave a fun name: Ruda Wakening. No deep meaning behind it.

Here are my first two girls ever made.

Tartharia Ryuuza - Ranger Tartharia came from the "music group" I had just downloaded, and Ryuuza is the Japanese name for the "Draco Constellation.
Akina Heihou - Warrior Akina means a "Spring Flower" and Heihou means "The Art of War".

The rest of my girls made have the last name of "Sesshou". It is Japanese for "Destruction of Life", and I thought it would be a fitting name for my first girl to use the name, as a Monk. :)

Sakura - Monk Japanese name meaning "Cherry Blossoms". Though meany people tend to think I got it from the anime series Naruto or Card Capture Sakura, that is wrong. I choose it cause I like what it means. :)
Jessika - Ele I choose this name simple because I like it. :)
Kanna - Necro I choose this name, because I figured it was about time for a Kanna in the Sesshou family.
Alora - Rit - I have always liked the name, and it has a meaning of spirits.
Cho - Mesmer a Japanese name meaning "Dawn".
Asa - Dervish Japanese name meaning "Morning".
Fuyu - Paragon Japanese name meaning "Winter".

Storage - Random Storage
Material - Material Storage
Upgrade - Upgrade Storage
Armor - Armor Storage
Holiday - Holiday Item Storage

Naming can be interesting for some, fun for others, and both for the rest. I usually put some (not a lot of thought) into my characters. I almost always use a thesaurus to get uncommon words for basic meanings.

D/W Ssadab Melanian = Black Badass (Melanian = Black)and Ssadab is badasS spelled backwards).

E/Me Malvader The Grey I've always liked the name Malvader and the color grey. His hair, armor, and weapons are grey too.

W/N Gythcyn Braymaster Pronounced Gith-Sin. Bray means "to crush or grind fine". He was my first character and used a big hammer(deleted). You can get some cool spellings of some names by replacing all "i"'s with "y" and changing "s" for "c".

W/? Kraker Krusher This is a play on proffesion and ethnicity. He's black with a hammer and/or could be a little upset about some things in the southern region sometime ago. If I would have thought more, I would have called him "King Kraker Krusher" :) That would have been the a better ironic name.

A/Me ? This name took the most time and I don't remember it :) (I'm not at home to check it). She's a female sin of the smallest stature and her name in Japanese means Little Assassin.

Rt/N Veil of Darkness Veil is obvious because he's a Rit. The "Darkness" has a tri fold meaning. He's black, practices the dark arts (Necro) and it reminds me of one of my favorite Chappel skits.

I have a little notebook with some cool names (IMO) but no more character slots and if I did, wouldn't have time to play them.

Warrior = Amras Mellwasull : found something on a site tht changed ur real name to an elf name
Necro = Jahaj Lasia: found out a few hours later that Jahaj is the name of a Fort in Kourna:D
Ele = Leith Lorias
Ranger = Lord Bowstring
Monk = Divine Vigor
Dervish= Haduta Dahaka
Rit= Tobay Riuta

When I choose character names, it really depends on the mood I'm in when making the character. Sometimes I want a funny name, sometimes a serious one. Here are the characters I have and why I chose their names at time of character creation.

Mighty Bizatch - She's a warrior, so she SHOULD be mighty
U Think U Need Me - This is my monk. Her name was chosen early in the release of Prophecies when it seemed like all I ever saw in every town was..."WE NEED A MONK"
Village Unicycle - I really wanted "Village Bicycle", but that name was already taken. I was in the mood for a funny character name.
Rori Gilmore - This name was chosen due to an inside joke from some of my co-workers. They kept calling Guild Wars, Gilmore Girls, so it was only fitting that I named my next character Rori.
Dead By Association - This is my assassin. During the beta weekend for Factions, I was a little tired of my assassin getting completely waxed before even making it to a group. My team would usually die shortly afterwards, so I thought it would be good to name her this because I figured my entire team would be "Dead By Association" with me :D
Spellbound Psyche - This is my mesmer. This also marks the start of my naming of characters with more serious names based on the attributes and skill lines of my characters.
Charismatic Harm - My ele. Also named using similar tactics as my mesmer.
Quintissential Chi - My Rt. More serious naming...getting kind of tired of it.
Chuck This - With the advent of Nightfall, I felt it was time to start making funny names again. This is a perfect name for my Paragon as she chucks spears at enemies.
Scythey Scytherson - My Dervish. This name really just came about due to a lack of creativity. I bet you couldn't figure that one out for yourself....could you?

I've also got a couple of PvP Only characters that I use that seem to change their professions constantly.
I M Sofa King Hot - For this one, I really just wanted to use the term "Sofa King" in a character name.
Thats Kossome - Another inside joke between some guildies and I. We've been using the term "Kossome" alot since the release of Nightfall.

The last group of character names is on my mule account. This account rarely gets used unless I need to transfer stuff. It's basically made up of the "Nooblover" sisters....Brandi, Candi and Missy Nooblover. I wanted to basically give them stripper names because I <3 strippers. The last character on this account is "Naming Blows"....because it does. Sometimes you just need a quick mule and you don't really care about the name.

My characters are mostly from books, either The Wheel of Time or the Song of Ice and Fire series. There are two that I made up myself. If any of you are familiar with the books, I've sort of got a family going of Mandragorans, with Lan's mother, cousin, aunt, and uncle.

Gwendymere of Averi: Ranger, my main character, one of my original names.

Ser Brynden Tully: Warrior, my namesake, came from Song of Ice and Fire, he's a pretty awesome knight, the Blackfish is.

Howal Gode: Necro, came from Wheel of Time, he's a very minor character that dies in the first book after only one scene, he just always made me feel like he was super evil.

Leanna Mandragoran: Monk, Lan's mom

Isam Mandragoran: Assassin originally, now PvP, Lan's cousin, half of the personality of Slayer, thought it was a fitting name for an assassin

Akir Mandragoran: Dervish, Lan's uncle, I think he's one of the people that caused the downfall of Malkier.

Breyan Mandragoran: Mesmer, Lan's aunt

Martok Spiritcaller: Ritualist, my second original name, I rather like it

Lord Howland Reed: Paragon, from Song of Ice and Fire, he's the Lord of the Crannogmen, the only other person along with Eddard Stark to walk away from the fight with the three greatest knights of the kingsguard.

Sierin Vayu: Elementalist, from Wheel of Time, she was the Amyrlin Seat in between Tamra Ospenya and Siuane Sanche, another minor character, but all the cool Aes Sedai were taken already, and I'm not one to spell a name wrong.

For my characters, I think up a word or phrase, make an alternate "spelling" for the word or phrase that would probably be pronounced the same as the original, then use that alternate as the name.

For instance:
Amn Unk (monk) -> A Monk
Anon Imous (war) -> Anonymous
Sagary Azell (ele) -> Scary as Hell
Wateryu Karezy (mes) -> What are you Crazy
Goeen Tukilyu (assa) -> Going to Kill You
Intyrli Brylynt (nec) -> Entirely Brilliant
Duya Lyket (ran) -> Do you like it
Kahn Deebar (rit) -> Candy Bar
Shyza Gudgall (para) -> She's a Good Gal
Eyvil Lyvon (der) -> I Will Live on

And of course then there's my PvP characters who are named Necro Rebel Pvp regardless of their class. People usually think I'm a necromancer until they see my class, which I think has saved my life sometimes.

my first names change a lot, from Tribina, Tribke, Blades, Miss Tiek, spiteful,...

but all have the same last name: Mutant

I'm not the only one though.. Lots of members of my guild who feel at home, make characters with the same last name ;-)

gives me a big happy family feeling =)

Annoy Mous-Comes from a session of TS when I was trying to get my mic working, a guy in the chat said "Hey look it's that Annoy Mous again"(I was named annonymous @ the time.)
Jailen Anara-Can't remember how I got this, completely random
Tried And Fried-It's sorta like a palindrome, switch the T and the F to get Fried And Tried. Also, it's based off of the Justice department, Tried in court, Fried in the chair.(My favorite name)
Void Where Prohibit-My attempt at satire
Suom Ynnoa-Annoy Mous backwards
Messenger Of Darwin-My ranger kills a lot, nuff said.
Ophiuchus Supernova-I looked at Wikipedia to see what had happened on that day, and something about the Ophiuchus Supernova had happened on that day in history.
Reprieve Denied-A mesmer so I wanted to use Denial in the name.
Commanding Comrade-Showing the leadership of my Paragon.
August Spies Voice-An assassin. Taken from August Spies last words before he was hung, "There will be a time when our silence will be more powerful than the voices you strangle today!"

My characters are named "Michael"(my own first name) and they come from different towns in Midkemia (R. E. Faust, Krondor the Betrayel etc.)

Except my ranger, he is named after my son (Yerio Micah) and my monk (Healer of the Paths). Both we made before I came up with the Midkemia thingy... But I don't want to delete them for now... Maybe one day, when I really REALLLY get bored, I'll delete them and start new ones... (naah... small chance).

Personally, I like to give unique names for my chars..

One of the things I enjoy the most when making a char is choosing a name. I even search the net for sites with foreign names, to make then more "real".

I like to think any each of them as a singular character. I like to research names, appeareance, etc.. example, my Faction mez has the chinese look and name of Fei Luan, While the necro is called Kshatriya Sheetal - shes hindu, my NF chars have arab names like Johara and Zahid.

The only rule I keep when naming is that my first char on - any - game will always be called Agrios(ancient greek name), cos it is my alter-ego on the net since I first logged in.

Tryops Grim (main) lvl 16 Devrish i like him because i found a build for him lol and he is far in Nightfall...i would say

Tryops Sunspear lvl 3 (hardly used) Paragon he just has a good gold weapon

Tryops Carbon lvl 2 (just made Jan 22) Rit i named him that because i was playing need for speed carbon on my xbox-360 trying to lvl him but nothing great about him yet

Journeyman Adle lvl 20 (was main not now) Ranger dont know why i named him that just thought it was a good name he has 15k good gren bow and awesome build

The Only Light lvl 20 Monk he is a 55 monk and i named him that because i thought it fit a monk

Adam Of Shrouds lvl 20 Assassin i named him that because Adam is my real name and of shrouds fits an assassin

Brother Adam I lvl4 Monk once again because it is my name and it fits him

D V D A is my pvp name it has a meaning that i wont say here but look it up if you want just dont get mad at me.

My other chars are variations on dvda

my mes is named Im a Leprechaun because he looks like a leprechaun and thats it.

Check the sig, most names are suited to the char except Sabriel which is named after Garth Nix's Necromancer character.

My main character's name came from a book series I read from Storm Constantine. Really good series with the books, Sea Dragon Heir, The Crown of Silence, and The Way of Light. Known as the The Magravandias Chronicles.

Valraven Palindrake was a son who's father's empire was overrun by a warlord and he was forced to become the general in this man's army. I liked the name, and the book series was great, so I just stuck with the last name.

Valraven Palindrake = W/? lvl 20 (beat all 3 games)
Dorian Palindrake - R/? lvl 20
Storm Palindrake - Mo/? lvl 20
Jonus Palindrake - D/? lvl 20

Then I went a little weird with 2 names..

X Sun Tzu X - Mo/? lvl 20 (beat prophecies and factions)
Maynard J Keenan - N/? lvl 20 (beat prophecies) [Name is the front man of Tool]

Then 2 storage chars who have appropriate names..

I Am A Storage Girl - Ritualist lvl 2
I Am A Storage Male - Paragorn lvl 2

Like most people I base my names all around 1 word. Mine is "Munkee" so mine are mixed with that.

Blessed Munkee - Monk
Dread Munkee - Necro
Mistress Munkee - Ele
Munkees Angel - Ranger
Shining Munkee - Paragon
Enigma Of Munkees - Mesmer (Mixed names with my friend in attempts to confuse people lol.)
Cald Of Fate - PvP/Test Character (Named after my favorite part of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.)
