I just got a 14-day trial to World of Warcraft (after much begging from friends), and I wanted to know what other people thought of it. Honestly, I don't really like I compared to guild wars. Possibly because I'm not a hardcore gamer, and just like to play for a short time and leave. But WoW (there's an oxymoron for ya!) doens't really appeal.
So yeah, just wondering what anyone else who has played may think of it :).
Remember: No flaming! Just honest opinions and thoughts ^^

yeah, i felt the same way. the infinite skill bar, lack of required skill, and penalty for dying turned me away from WoW.
and GW has spoiled me in terms of what i find "good" graphics to be nowadays. WOW, WoW has, if not bad, weird graphics.

WoW comes across to me as being to "cartoonish"

Its actually pretty fun til about lvl 15 or 20 then you realize that every quest you just did, you basically do over again for a different quest giver with a harder difficulty later on. The classes are very unbalanced. Play for the 14 days and come back with a new outlook on guild wars.

I've played it and I like both games. I have to say that when a new campaign of GW comes out I'd much rather play that becuase I enjoy a storyline and playing as part of it. In WoW there's is no overall storyline so I find it better to fill in the gaps between GW campaigns. Both are great games!

I have tryed the trail and in my opinion it's sucks...
I relly don't like it at all, I find GuildWars much more fun... WoW are a bit boring... I know the games are a bit alike but still guildWars are so much more fun and free^^

WoW was alot of fun for me... I just like guildwars better... LOL
I can't really explain why, but part of it's a "required" grind rather than optional grinds if you really want to go for titles.

Oh god why did you post this here :( just shooting an arrow at a hornets nest.
WoW is a totally different type of online game to Guild Wars, some people prefer 1 or the other, I like both. But obviously posting a thread on guild wars forums you're gonna get negative answers :\

Yeah I agree that's like saying men are better then women on a feminist website.
As for the origional post I have never played WoW, I like GW and just don't have any time to invest in another game. From what I hear WoW has a lot more grinding REQUIRED to succeed and I just don't have that much time to put into it. Remeber thoug different people like different things so to some WoW rock to other GW is the clear winner.

I only did the trial because I don't want to subscribe (and also dont own a credit card with which to pay) for it.
The one thing I did like was the huge-ness of it. It really dwarfs guild wars in map-size terms..however, the reeason I'm even looking on this forum shows that i prefer GW..mostly because I've been on it for so long but also because it's free.
I didn't like the grinding to get levels..that not only bored me but made me get angry, say if someone stole my targets.

if WoW didn't have a payment fee i think i'd rather play WoW than GW
i think i haven't tryed it though
but PvP looks bad to me, just people who keep jumping

Well I have played both and still play both
Guild Wars:
Pros:
Free to play.
Not much grinding.
Very Balanced.
PvP part is better than most games if not the best.
All maps are instanced.
Graphics are awesome.
Cons:
Races, features limited.
PvE part is very limited and short.
Maps are very small compared to WoW and everything is instanced.
Not a lot of options of armor and weapons.
WoW:
Pros:
Options and lots of options.
Different races different classes.
Two different factions that actually are in war and it does make a huge difference in game play (unlike GW)
Maps and the world, vast, open and even if you're level 1 you can travel to most areas in the game.
Not instanced (If you're questing, you're most likely to find another player in the map, maybe even a faction enemy - kill it! if you're pvp ^^)
Lots of armor and weapons.
Mounts and different methods of transportation, even flying mounts with BC (Burning Crusade Expansion)
Cons:
You have to pay to play.
Most areas are not instanced which sometimes suck a player might get there before you and kill everything. (But note "usually" this is not a problem)
At first the realms can be confusing and laggy, and also lots of realm shutdown for repairs and etc..
Graphics are somewhat cartooned (most characters and monsters, but don't confuse with the landscape, which in my opinion is better than GW)
Grinding may become a problem for some players.
Anyways I can't really think of anything else now, but if I remember anything I'll post it.
Anyways my point of view is both are great games and they are nothing alike each other, in my opinion if you like PvE better than WoW is the game for you if you like PvP better stick with GW (But WoW has very good PvP play, but unbalanced in some ways)

couldnt have summed it up better than Meumesmo, nice post :)
my own opinion however, is that i enjoy having more choices - buying expansion to keep up to date if i wanted, instead of a fixed monthly fees (even though if u think about it around 50euros every 6months is around 10 per month....not much diff overall), also theres the grinding which i PERSONALLY do not like - different ppl like different things, however, and if you enjoy grinding then i would definately suggest WoW. As stated above, however, i also felt there was a lack of storyline in WoW, but i cant really say much as i havent played WoW properly yet (didnt reach 60, never mind 70)
anyway basic summary - both good games, just depends on tastes, and whether you want to try something new or not, ie many people i know from GW have went to other games, including WoW, not because it's "better", but because of the fact that they have basically "completed" GW and have nothing else to do in game

If u completed GW u can go to Sorrows Furnace , 3 elite missions, to do hard quests, to explore and earn titles ,cap skills , spend for FoW armor, and muck more

ahhh and go to UW and FoW. and i am agree that ppl mustn't post this here .I DONT CARE ABOUT WOW. I played it with 14 days key and i dont like it (chars,grafix,gameplay,no storyline,stupid landscapes).Post this topics in wow forums not here .HERE IS GW FORUM.

Well the thing about GW is that once you complete a campaign there’s not much left to do (note “much”), in WoW in the other hand is very different every time you level something else opens up for you just like a box, take the druid class for instance once you reach level 10 you get to shape shift into a bear, at 16 into a sea lion kind of thing ^^, at 20 a cat form and then other forms once you level up so you’re always motivated to level which makes your grinding less of a “grind”, at higher levels you can go level up some more, level up your profession, go PvP for better armor and weapons, go on raids and much more, so don’t think WoW is all about grinding and cartooned graphics just because say it’s like that, because to be honest the grinding is not as half as bad as some people say it is and the graphics especially the landscape is beautiful.
Also to make money is a lot easier than a lot of people may think, since there are a lot of ways to make money other than just farming and selling items, also having an auction house is so convenient, don’t forget mail too ^^

WoW is a pretty decent game imo. I tried the 14-day free trial too and I can really see why so many people like it, I just like GW better.

This is what I'm talking about *sigh*
I'll have to agree with muemesmo, people can argue all they want, but WoW does have a heck of an edge when it comes to PvE content, it is seemingly neverending - without being intimidating and confusing, and it isn't linear - but at the same time you wont get lost.

ok guys, heres the thing. WoW has a puns(*double meaning*) for a reason, because its correct. World of Warcraft is like WOW! i have played both games same amount of hours. GW is good for those players that just play for 1hr or so... and wow is for those who actually play a game properly. WoW does actually have a storyline.. if you played long enough you'd actually notice.
In WoW you could spend months on one character with places still to be revealed and on GW you could spend less than a week to complete the full first faction.. GW is so small its launched 2 expansion packs. WoW has only launched 1 expansion after been out 3+ years. And for those who say that GW has better graphics.. you have to think the size of GW compared to WoW, WoW is huge and one big world, GW has naff Outposts (or the other option of parties outside ofc). plus GW has come out a year or so after WoW, technology these days grows vastly tbh.. you have to agree..
GW is just a stupid copy of WoW.

Ouch, well I have to disagree with you, because like I said they're nothing alike, and WoW wasn't the first MMORPG, and people have to take that into consideration, before talking about it and making assumptions, anyways I'm done with this thread cause I know there will be many like this to come.

You say Old Rivals, but honestly why is there rivalry, i'd say at least 60% percent of the Guild Wars players I know detest WoW for no apparent reason with no experience of the game at all; whereas most WoW players I know have the more don't-knock-it-till-you've-tried-it mentality.
Why?
Amongst the things in online communities I hate most; small-mindedness and fanboyism are right up there with flaming and the other bad things. I suggest people actually grow-up, try things out, and get into their head that just because they play a certain game/console/OS/Browser/whatever, doesn't mean everything else is /autopoo.

Actually ive seen a couple different sides
1st: people as soon as they get to level 20 they quit becuz all they wanna do is level up, not sure y u would want to. they think everything has to levels like in diablo 2, and WoW
2nd: people that have WoW and think its the best game ever and wont give other games a look.
3rd: people that just like WoW better then GW, no shame in that we all have our opinion
4th: People that like GW, hehe y not its a great game but gets boring after a long time. Even i quit for 3 months to back to Diablo 2
5th: people that dont play either
6th: Ummmmmmm is there six

Thats exactly why I think that this thread should be locked, because of the flaming and arguments, and parodies and all sorts of things that we dont want here.
