I was wondering is there any difference between ancient armor and FoW armor statwise or is it only the looks? i was looking at wiki and it sez fow has 6 functionals, and insignia slot while ancient only has an insignia slot. can someone please tell me the difference. Thanks in advance!

"Functionals" refers to armor that has an insignia built-in and can't have an insignia applied to it. An open insignia slot means that it can have an insignia applied to it.
For example, a Monk's Ascetic's armor piece from the Fissure will give +energy, while a piece from the Ancient armor crafter that you apply a Radiant insignia to will give the same +energy.
The "blank" FoW armor is functionally identical in every way to the Ancient armor. The "functional" will be identical in every way if you use an insignia that gives the same bonus on the Ancient armor.

Welcome to Gameamp :)
All armour bought in Elona will come as Inscribable armour, which means you can add inscriptions, but older armour from Tyria and Cantha had set bonuses already, but Anet added an inscribably FoW set to keep with demand, as Necrorebel said :)
