Favourite Parts of The Lord of the Rings

I thought this forum needed *brightening up* so I thought I'd start this topic: What's your favourite parts of The Lord of the Rings? (books/film/other)

Favourite character?
I think my favourite character would either be Prince Imrahil, or Glorfindel. This is because there is so much I don't know, and would like to know, about these fairly mysterious figures. If it had to be someone I was more, familiar with, then I think It'd be Faramir.

Favourite location?
Hmm, although I do like Mirkwood, and Osgiliath, I think I'm gonna have to go with Ithilien, partly because I have visited the movie site.

Favourite book?
I'm not sure I could choose on of the trilogy, so I'm going for The Hobbit. =)

Favourite weapon?
Aiglos or Aeglos, or Gil-Galads spear. This looks like an awesome weapon to wield.

Now it's your turn! Add questions if you can think of them. =)

Feanaro Anwarun's question: What's your favourite enemy?
I think I'd have to say Goblins:

Clap! Snap! The black crack!
Grip, grab! Pinch, nab!
And down, down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!

Clash, crash! Crush, smash!
Hammer and tongs! Knocker and gongs!
Pound, pound, far underground.
Ho, ho! My lad!

Swish, smack! Whip crack!
Batter and beat! Yammer and bleat!
Work, work! Nor dare to shirk,
While Goblins quaff, and Goblins laugh,
Round and round far underground
Below my lad!
=D

Sorry for the late response. Things with the site going funky has kept me off the forums quite a bit. I like LOTR *nods*

I have only read 2 of the books (I know I suck), but I have seen all of the movies, and grew up watching those two wonderful cartoons (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings).

I don't really have a favorite character though. Every time I think I get one, someone else moves in to the top spot.

When it comes to book, of the two I read, I'm going to have to say The Hobbit. Maybe it was because I read it after the first in the trilogy, and was so happy to finally see where the mess started with the Baggins family.

And my favorite weapon is the Cave Troll. Yep, that would be my weapon of choice. Not only does it do the job well, but it is so cute when it does it *grin*

Hmm fave character would have to be.. Feanaro AKA Feanor, Curufinwe. I came in contact with LoTR about just before it got official that they started making the LoTR movies. I then once stumbled across a fantastic elvish name generator and it gave me the name Feanaro Anwarunya.. i then wanted to know more or even everything about Feanaro when i realized that was a ''real'' person.. His story is one of the biggest and most influentuel (o_O erhm spelled correctly) in the history of the elves. High king of the Noldor and the best craftsman of all time.. thats what eventually led to his doom.. his story is very sad.. I can tell so much about him but i wont.. :P it will take to long. I love your choice :) Glorfindel is a very mysterious person.. one of the most mysterious there is, but then again so few is known of him which is a shame.. though thats of course what makes him mysterious :) and Imrahil has always intreeged me.

Fave location is so hard.. :) I would say Eriador and Rhovanion.. places like Fangorn and mirkwood.. the ancient ruins in Eriador. :)

Fave book.. hmm.. I cant choose ^_^
The hobbit is great.. I experienced the fellowship the most probably.. and the silmarillion were fantastic because i cant know enough of everything Tolkien wrote :)

I agree with you on the fave weapon :) Intreeged the most by Gil-Galad's spear, Aiglos (or Aeglos ;D) sure is something you dont want to be speared by.. as much as you want to be speared by anything.

I would add Favourite Enemy. :) It could also be your favourite character but ill add it anyway :P
Mine would be Morgoth, Melkor.. Though the Nazgul are the scariest :P :)

RE: Favourite Parts of The Lord of the Rings

My favorite character...... It's got to be either Haldir or Elrond. Haldir because of his Galadhrim archers, which are so cooool. Also, he didnt die if you already dont know, peter just made him die in the movies, he survives throughout the books.
Elrond because rivendell is like... the coolest house to live in, and because of his skill in battle (war of the ring).

My favorite weapon is probably hadhafang, 1st because of the desgin, it's elvish touch makes it look really deadly, and because it used to be Elrond's sword.

My favorite location is deffinetly Numenor, its got the highest mountains, the most ancient civilizations... INCLUDING GANDALFS HOME!!!! Yes Yes Gondolin, its was Gandalf's home. It was a great huge Kingdom of all races,, including 5 wizards, until it was attacked by the biggest siege in all of history, even bigger than that of Minas Tirith ( Return Of The King ), including mumakil, battle trolls, wargs, orcs, goblins, dragons.... everything. The city was destroyed. After the ring was destroyed by Frodo , the city was rebuit.

My favorite enemies are probably the wring wraiths... they're cool :)

RE: Favourite Parts of The Lord of the Rings

I think my favorite character was Galadriel. She was a pretty powerful chick in a book severly lacking in interesting females. I never really liked Eowyn that much.

So naturally my favorite location was Lothlorien.

My favorite book from the trilogy is FOTR.

Don't have a favorite weapon. I didn't really read the books for the fight scenes.

RE: Favourite Parts of The Lord of the Rings

there aren't that much weapons described that much in the books anyway. :)

but yeah LoTR does sort of lack women.. alltho the women in the books are quite important. Arwen and Galadriel.. and im not really a fan of Eowyn either but i guess she did have quite some ''story-time'' in the books :P

RE: Favourite Parts of The Lord of the Rings

What's your favourite parts of The Lord of the Rings? (books/film/other)

Favourite character?
If its within the Fellowship, then I would go with Aragorn...but that is obvious. But from the books....I would say it would be....Tuor. For those unfamiliar the tale is in Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-Earth. Its a pretty cool read (very short for a Tolkien book). Its been so long since I read it but his name has always stuck with me.

Favourite location?
Mordor, something about the evil that hides behind the Black Gate and its mountainous terrain. I always want to know whats lurking in there, something akin to a haunted house that you see from afar but dare not enter. You know there is something lurking just in the shadows. The one place specifically would be the Minus Morgul. But in general I enjoyed the whole world of Middle-Earth.

Favourite book?
The Two Towers, so much happens in that book. Even know the last book is called Return of the King, he truely enters in the Two Towers (to me at least). Plus a plethora more of characters enter in this chapter of the trilogy.

Add to that I also like many of the tales from Unfinished Tales. It covers First, Second, and Third age; you learn about the battle at Gladden Field, the hunt for the One Ring (in the 3rd Age), insight into Galadriel and Celeborn, and a huge index of the cast from the world of Lord of the Rings. Its a huge book with tons of cool backstory to Middle-Earth and the people.

Favourite weapon?
Well I havent a real knowledge of many weapons other than Sting, Glamdring, and Anduril.

Feanaro Anwarun's question: What's your favourite enemy?
So many enemies...OH....Sharkey...haha...I kid...stupid Saruman. But I would say maybe the Balrogs, they seemed so cool. But there were so many more that we had seen. Like Gothmog....so cool...so evil.
