RE: windows xp sucks for this...

That usually happens when a program stops responding. It will turn white but if you drag anything over it, it will do what you pictured.

PS: 50 processes? I had my OS installed for over a year and the most I've had is maybe 37. Just reinstalled and I have 31 processes right now, and thats only cause I'm dling season 1 & 2 of House MD.

Update in whenever I dont feel lazy.

...hm...
I use WIndows Task manager a lot to stop programs that aren't responding and to reduce the background tasks my computer is using.

Looks to me like a virus. I'll search it on my virus scanner to see if it's known. Or maybe it's malware. If you're computer can't pick it up, then it could mean trouble. What virus protection do you have?

And try using ESC to get rid of those windows. If that doesn't work then...click the red Xs? Other than that, I'll hafta get my tech buds over to help.

I'll get back to you on whether or not my virus thingamabob knows of it. (I use Trend Micro, btw.)

oh, well the 50 processes...er..i think that has something to do with the imac apple software for windows..i mean look at brightness.exe as an example..used with the mac's display so most of that crap is similar stuff. So i think most is software drivers for xp since its runin fully NON virtual on the macs hardware....i dunno im annoyed right now.

RE: windows xp sucks for this...

I looked it up, and it's just a minor worm. Nothing big (thank goodness! I hate haviing to redo a comp!)

Run a deep scan. Eat some popcorn. Watch a movie. Come back adn see if it found it.

Also, you shouldn't have all those background programs running... very bad for your computer.

Instructions:
end all processes except for the ones filed under SYSTEM or LOCAL SERVICE/NETWORK SERVICE.
The processes that say "Chris" on your screen aren't neccesary. If you recognize one, like how mine says "googletoolbarnotification.exe", and you want to keep it, don't end it.
DON\"T END TSKMGR.EXE OR EXPLORER.EXE OR WHATEVER YOUR INTERNET SERVICE IS (mine is MSN.exe for example)THESE WILL SCREW UP YOUR COMPUTER IF STOPPED.

Hope it helps, bud! And if ur comp doesn't catch that wormie, then either upgrade your protection, or just give it a rest and run another scan. About once a week is best :)

RE: windows xp sucks for this...

Ah , used to end explorer.exe in school alot to mod the .exe file itself.in computer class, nothing bad ever happened tho.

And ending explorer.exe is a way to restart your computer without having to physically restart it. Also when it crashes because its completly crap...just hit crtl alt del and then in new task type it in and its there again. God how i love windows's cracks and glitches.

BTW: id like to point out when ive seen guildwars in the Taskmgr It says Mem Usage 27,000 KB which is (27 MB of ram) Whats it say on the guildwars box again? 512 MB..HUH? LOL

No wait i just checked in the taskmanager is now says 13,000 lol firefox takes up more ram then gw!

I mod my games, but I don't think I know as much about computers as you do...
Lol and I thought I knew a lot :P

Hope my info helps...arg.
And also hope that this little windows thign will sort out.
I think the system is creating a revenge virus to get back at you for ending explorer.exe :P
It's like pulling an elephant's tail =]

RE: windows xp sucks for this...

leave the processes that start with mc alone, those are your mcafee anti virus, end things like "limewire" and i tunes while playing GW for best results.

RE: windows xp sucks for this...

This can happen sometimes, it's your anti-virus software or some other software trying to update itself.
Happend to me, Quicktime wanted to update itself so bad it would give me popups saying UPDATE ME, FOOL!

If the popups, pop-up, during a game that can happen.

But yeah that's just me, you have so many useless processes running... Do you really need limewire, ipod service and all those other things running while playing Guild Wars?

If you have a problem with programs that you need on but updating themselves. If you have zone alarm, there is a mode on it that says "game mode" then click on deny all programs requests to internet and you will never have a problem again with updating programs.
The version of windows also has no effect, unless you have a version thats below the requirements for GW.

Woof!

RE: windows xp sucks for this...

This has nothing whatsoever to do with a virus or malware of any kind.
It's a not uncommon graphics glitch caused by some application malfunctioning which makes it so that inside a certain render, marked by a set of vertices (or vertexes), it doesn't clear the framebuffer.

Usually killing the application which caused the error will work, otherwise a reboot will do.

RE: windows xp sucks for this...

Also, it may be due to your video card. It's not that your card is bad or anything, but if you're running GW in windowed mode, that means the video card will be painting your desktop, any windows that you have open, as well as rendering the game. That can cause it to get a little glitchy...The heavier video cards don't have the issue as much because they can push more, but the middle to low end ones can have problems. Especially if they are integrated.
