RE: Professions

Hi Dav3,
Warlock was also my first choice in characters. There will be a lot of possible discussion about what is best, and I'm sure someone will post a link to the guide on professions, but I'll offer up a little personal opinions on the subject.

Tailoring: Sounds inviting to a cloth wearer doesn't it? It would be, if you could actually attain the patterns and materials for pieces that would actually benifit you. It seems with almost all of the armor crafting professions, you end up getting patterns to create stuff long after you can benifit from it at that level.

Strong point to tailoring: You can make bags. Bags = gold in the long run. The more you can store before going to sell vendor trash, the faster you can make money. The upper level bags like Mooncloth also sell quite well.

Also, the level 300-375 Tailoring skills offer more relavent patterns to your high level since the expansion. It is actualy at level for you in Outland. One of the improvements that came along with the expansion.

Enchanting: If you do decide to go the tailoring route, this is a good compliment. Enchanting materials are good money makers and it never hurts to be able to boost your own stats without having to worry about over priced or corrupt enchanters that will ninja your materials.

My personal choice was Herbalism/Alchemy. It's an easier proffession set to start out with IMO. I make good money on high level herbs and potions. Everybody needs Health pots! And this proffession set will almost always have relavant, usefull potions for you as you level it.

Also.... IMHO, Blacksmithing, Weaponmaking and Leathercrafting skills just don't do anything for you.

On the outside proffession combo I would say that Mining/Engineering is a plausable and functional Warlock proffesion set.

Another route that people go is to just have gathering skills, and not to work on a specific proffession for their first character. I know plenty of characters that are Herbology/Mining, Enchanting/Mining, Herbology/Skinning, etc...... Simply to make money. Personally, I couldn't do that on my first character. The crafting proffessions are definately part of the fun to the game.

OK, that's enough for now. Good luck!

RE: Professions

With my warlock, I did engineering/mining simply because it sounded like it would be fun, and I would have to say that Gnomish Shrink Ray is lots of fun. As well you can make goggles that boost your intelligence and are popular with the ladies. Also, no better complement to the destruction warlock than to have some goblin explosives that you created to give that extra little AoE damage.

But, as for what goes well with the class, I would agree with Thundar on alchemy/herbalism. Being that warlocks tend to be a bit squishy and suck down the mana like there's no tomorrow, being able to make your own health and mana pots will come in handy. As well as potions for buffs will help a lot too. There also the run speed and swim speed pots that you can make that might come in handy from time to time, and the pots that boost fire damage in case your a destruction warlock.

Tailoring might go well so you can make your own cloth armor and enchanting simply becuase that's what usually goes along with tailoring. Plus you'd be able to enchant all your gear with the stats that you want.

RE: Professions

With my Warlock I picked Tailoring/Enchanting because I already have a Druid with Herbalism/Alchemy, but if this is your first character I would suggest Herbalism/Alchemy because it is really easy to level up. And if you are a Night Elf it is one of the #1 choises to choose from.

RE: Professions

alright! a new WoW'er! hmm, well, for a warlock, alch/herbalism is a good choice for reasons stated above, but there is one more advantage, once you get to lvl 70 you can begin making an item called "Primal might". Primal Might is needed by ALL crafting professions to make high end gear and as such, rakes in the dough. Also, if you specializes in making primal might and similar items, then everytime you transmute, lets say primal might, then there is an off chance you will make between 1-4 more with the same materials!

Tailoring/chanting is always an option, but I find that there are too many chanters on every server, so oif it appeals to you, go for it, otherwise Id stay away.

Finally, the engineering/mining combo, there are a few reasons to pick this, but the main one is that once you hit lvl 70, you can make a pair of AMAZING goggles, that will last you until you begin raiding.

Final tally, Alch/herb for more profit.
Mining/engineering for more power later on.

Hope I helped! :D

RE: Professions

I have Tailoring/enchanting on my lock, i think tailering is very easy and fun to lv and you can make some nice gold with it.
Enchanting isnt the best prof to start with. It will cost you a lot of gold. I stoped to lv my enchanting at 290, and i just sell the mats i get from disenchanting qeust rewards and junk greens. You can make a lot of gold with this.

For the other prof options given by the others just look at what you can do with all the profs at thottbot.com. And see what you like.

One thing to consider as well for a Warlock is Tailoring for the Frozen Shadoweave pieces that are BoP. This is a huge edge for boosting your DPS stats pre raid.

RE: Professions

I agree with the Herb/Alch people. My lock uses a lot of the pots I make and they sell well too. My hunter is a tailor/enchanter and that was a drain to level. You really have to have money if you want to get to the top of that. My Shaman is a skinner/Miner. That's the way to go if you need to make money. But for all around leveling and making a little money on the side, I think Herb/Alch suits warlocks well.

RE: Professions

herbs and alchi are good for ANY class. If you want to make your own pots especially for raiding and end game content then go with that because it can be a very expensive venture otherwise.

However the other professions for a warlock can be good to like tailoring and enchanting because you get the t5 equivilent set from it. Or engineering and mining because you get cool bombs and toys to play with. Jewlecrafting and mining you can get some sweet gear, some of the best rings and necklaces in game are crafted until level 70.

Its really a tough decision now with burning crusade professions are better than ever.
