I just came to the site and immediately got a notice from Norton saying there was a virus on my PC called "downloader". My norton automatically deleted it, but it appeared when I pulled the site up. Someone check on this please.

I saw this once last week, but haven't seen it since. It was right before it went down too for what it's worth.
I PM'd Jeni about this.

FYI - When I clicked on this thread, I got three warnings in a row from McAffe about VBS/Psyme and a notice about the site trying to run a program called "Script(Something)"

Well, the psyme error popped up for a bunch of folks a while back. In actuality, that was a piece of errant code (an extrs " ' " IIRC), that made certain AV programs think there was a virus. The Devs cleaned it up and all was good.
I imagine something like that has occured again.

I'm pretty sure this is part of what was going on last week. I will give a poke to the devs as soon as I see them next though just to let them know.

Yup, also happened to me just ealier. Scared the crap out of me, since I'm awork and I was afraid I might infect the whole network!! The program was called "Downloader" and was caught by my Corporate Norton AV on my work PC. There was actually 5 entries that were quarantined...and Norton's doesn't know what to do with it. and nortons says it happened again when I opened this page a few mins ago, so it's still happening.

My Norton did delete it yesterday, and it hasn't happened again since, but I'm not trusting it to be honest.

I am getting calls from the network guys at work that it is reporting a virus on my PC. So I have not been getting on the site at work. I don't want them to start tracking down what sites I am going to and blocking them.
Work is where I do most of my gameamp surfing.

It's from one of the advertisers. It's trying to download a suspicious active-x control. With my settings, not only does AVG pop up and tell me it's a "Trojan Horse - Browser Helper," but I also get a bar at the top of the screen asking for permission to download it.
Everyone who's anti-virus software did not block/delete the trojan should check their plug-ins for anything they don't recognize. You should be able to disable the trojan that way. Some trojans of this type will still come back, but it might work.
To do this from Internet Explorer, pull down the Tools menu, hover over Manage Add-Ons and select Enable or Disable Add-Ons in the menu that pops up. This opens a list of the browser add-ons currently on your computer. You can click on the names of them and select enable or disable for each.
The process is similar in Firefox, though for Firefox to catch a trojan of this type requires you to have been tricked into installing it on purpose. Perhaps someone else can give specific instructions for other browsers.

it's not one of the advertisers. if you'll check out the latest news, dru has updated information. the site was hacked and malicious code inserted into the main pages of coh and wow. the developers are working on it. if you see any small, strange dots on a page (like a period, only bigger) please report them immediately. you can see one on the front page in the latest city of heroes articles section, the "my bio for the comp" entry has one placed to the left of the text. this was not placed by the author, but by the hacker. should be fixed soon.
