Well, good and bad news.....the bad news is they need to do something to keep the player's interest until then, or they will lose lots of customers.
The good news, seeing as it will be nearly a year and a half in developement(as opposed the the year that it would have previously been in developement for), I think we will see improvements far beyond all of the current guildwars games.
This also could mean its time to take GW into a different direction....make it in a completely remote area, far away from where the other campaigns took place. Now, I dont think it will go into advancements like guns n such, but I would certainly expect it to be different then what we've seen so far.
On another note, this could mean this will basically be a Guild Wars 2.....seperating it from the others, completely......Meaning your old characters cant access the new areas, but still allow us to merge accounts in a sense where when we login, we chose GW or GW 2, and that takes us to one of the 2 area's where we chose from our list of characters that can access that area. Though I dont see it being like this as most sequal games end up steal a majority of the players from the first game.(as opposed to an expansion which simply spreads players out more)

that would be cool to have an area not part of the mainland.... yes Cantha and Elona are not from the main land from Tyria but im talkin like maybe another demension or some sort

I dun think that will happen but they may have a GW 2 but i dun think they will make you have to have characters seperate.....

Well, this is all of my guesses as to why they would wait longer to come out with the next game, and to really take GW to another level, they would probably need to do some things that would completely unbalance it with the other games, therefore it would have to be seperate.
PS: Read my edit to my last post about you having -cred.
PSS: To show how exclusive it is when I said "those who have earned it", there are only 17 people, excluding admins, who can give negative credit.

that -cred thing... thats just plain mean lol i think im a nice guy lol.... :( oh well peeps dun give me cred when i help so ya lol........
Anyways.... to be honest i havn't quite explored all of GW yet... Ive mostly been on the PvP end but havne gotten bored for some reason and want to get back into the story line....
I was thinkin maybe somthin along the lines of doing an elite quest that takes a team to get through and durring that quest or maybe the end you stumble apon some device that teleports you to maybe another time warp to the future or maybe the past back when the gods were on Tyria........
Actually I really want races... no more professions but races like maybe Dwarfs or elves or undead and they each have their own "city" or "town" that only their race can go to and alliances can be created or actually Guild Wars not GvG's but guild wars..... maybe an new area where these "towns" are and its basically at 3+ teams all fighting at once and so on depending how many races their are....

How exactly does someone earn the right to give negative cred on here anyway? I've been a member on this site for quite while now and I've never had the option of giving it (and I never would cuz I don't agree with bashing people like that....unless they post the most horrible flame I've ever seen :P). And why exactly do fellow members have the right to give out negative cred? Shouldn't that be the admins' power only? I can see someone who is in a really bad mood, going and dishing out a bunch of bad cred to anyone they don't agree with at the time (which is definitely not fair). I myself recieved over 20 negative credit on two posts yesterday in which all I did was state my opinion (I didn't bash or flame anyone at all....I simply stated my opinion and that's all). Someone care to explain this, in my opinion, unfair system? +cred to someone who can enlighten me lol :P

Basically, be as helpful as possible.
I have been a member of the site for about as long as you have, as I can tell by your post count, you dont post often, therefore you cant be given that much credit.....the most you can get per post is 10 credit.
I have been able to give neg credit for some time now, and today was actually the first time I've ever given any neg. Reason was he was plain rude in his post. As for people being in a bad mood, you shouldnt bring that to the forums....theres been a few times where I typed up a few paragraphs in response to something that has been said, and decided not to post it, not that it was that extreame, I just didnt want to pass my anger at the time, into my actions.
I think its a perfectly fair system....I personally have submitted even less then you.(25 things total, counting awards for helping the site) Therefore I see the negative credit as a reward and something to signify how helpful you are, therefore kind of a reward and a welcome from the admins.
Anyway, hope this enlightens you, and I hope no one else replied before me. :P
EDIT:
I kind of agree rogue....for 1) it will give me a break from GW, as I and already kind of bored....so not being able to play new content for a few more months means it will be more fun when I get to.
and 2) I might actually get KoaBD on my warrior before the next chapter. :P

I highly doubt if they ever add anything that makes this game like WoW or other MMO's. Examples would be:
1. Non-fighting based skills (mining, herb collecting, weapon smithing, enchanting, etc).
2. Mounts, land-based or flying (mounts would be pretty useless in GW because of the small zones...whereas WoW is one big zone that takes much longer to traverse and hence mounts are much more needed).
3. Increased level cap (the whole point of having the lvl cap at lvl 20 in GW is to keep the game balanced for both PvE and Pvp. Increasing the cap will unbalance the game, just like WoW).
These were just a few examples of things that will probably never get added to GW. If they do, then I along with many other people will be very, very, very surprised.
One thing that I wish they would add that is in other games like WoW, is an auction house. GW needs one of these badly to help with the trading economy and to help clear up the chat channels. It would make trading so much easier and more accessible for everyone. Cheers ^_^

I love the idea of the wait being extended. Sure, I got use to playing new titles every 6 months, but a longer release date, will be alot better quality game. :)

sorry for goin OT again lol but WOOHOO!!! i get 19 cred lol!.... i think ima nock you off Rogue :)! lol
anyways..... I actually would love to have an even longer release date lol I still am a few bonuses away from my Tyria Protector thingy title and i still have yet to beat night fall and Cantha... I have yet to do a UW and I have yet to do a full FOW or even get to that crafters thingy lol......
Honestly I think if they raised the lvl a bit maybe to like 30 it wouldn't do much cuz then people would just get to lvl 30 just as fast as they got to lvl 20 and it be exactly the same becuase your att points/HP/armor would all even out automatically

I personally would not like to see any changes that make this game more like WoW. It's a refreshing change in style from the huge map and difficult choices you have to make when creating a character in that game. It still offers choices, but those choices are modifiable throughout the course of the game, so if you don't like what you have done, you can usually just fix it.
GW is a great game, let's keep it that way.

Thats what I hated when I played WoW......in GW.....the most you will have to do is buy a few skills and maybe a few runes or weapons.
In WoW, to change your playstyle, you would be best to restart your character.(or make a new one just for that purpose)

just thought i'd point out that it does not say that the next campaign is coming out in the second half of the year, it says "a major update to the franchise" will be
that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the next campaign
ANet said they would be releasing a campaign every 6 months, and they have thus far
it's my opinion, but i won't believe it till they say in plain and simple english: 'GW chapter 4 is coming out in the 2nd half of the year'

I totally agree with you, Rogue. There is a lot I need to do before Chapter 4 comes out, and I too would love to get some time to branch into PvP once I finish my PvE goals. So that's pretty exciting, though I was still looking forward to it coming out.

Two things here, for more than one PS, it's PPS, and PPPS, and so on. Second, that's pretty cool, only 17 of us can give negative cred, and we can actively prevent anyone else from getting this ability. HA! Fear me!

Naw, I've only given out negative credit maybe 5-10 times since I got the ability a long while back. Since the times when anyone could give neg cred, I believe.
Big update huh? Wonder what's so important that they announce it so far ahead in time? Don't think it's C4, so maybe it's all our hopes and dreams?

I don't mind it takes longer, aslong as the game is quality, mostly bug free already, and just has some good content, since Factions was just a dissapointment, too fast, too little things.

Whoever gave it to me, plz tell me what I said that you thought was so wrong? I didn't bash anyone or anything and yet I'm getting hammered for some reason. This is what I was talking about when I said that only the admins should have the power to hand out negative cred. Even the best of people can sometimes get carried away and do things like this if they are particularly mad about something. I'm not necessarily mad that I got the negative cred, I just want to know what I said above that someone thought was so wrong.

So I am looking forward to this new campaign it will give me a chance to get NF. I said I wouldn't get NF until I beat factions so i am pretty much screwed (and the fact that I am rather poor :( ).
ps did it say new chapter, or update??? I heard both mentioned here, and I am too lazy to check for myself. Keep in mind those who said the wrong thing get negative cred. ROFL j/k I only give negative cred. to flamers, so sadly quite a bit recently :-/

I re-read it and it does say a big update......and i'm the same way with giving neg cred.....if you're rude(and I see it), you can bet some of that neg cred is from me. :)

Lots of cool things said above. Just one comment though, someone suggested that in the new chapter we not be able to take over our previous characters. In regards to that
1. I sure hope not I have a bunch of characters but I always seem to fall back on my necro when I just want to play around (she is so versitale). It would suck If i had to start a new necro just to play
2. Don't think they have that in mind as they are keeping the Kind of a big deal title track which without the ability to get new titles you will be somewhat limited, not to mention the skill hunter title track currently maxxes out at 380 (there are only 291 now of which I only need 5 more :)).
The true test of any technology is its ability to obtain porn.

They said 2 chapters per year really, but they also said in Factions there would be improvements to trade(?!).
See my point? Dont take them by the letter.
As previously noted...more time developing the game, leads to a better product. This is positive.
And, Ive beaten NF with only 1 of my 8 chars..so..Im sure can get busy enough untill the second half of this year..not to mention that theres always some PvP to do...

Personally, Id like to play a martial artist with punches,kicks and stuff but..so far we got:
Melee: Warrior, Assassin, Dervish
Ranged: Ranger, Paragon
Offensive Casters: Necromancer, Elementalist
Mixed Casters: Monk, Ritualist, Mesmer
So..if a new class EVER comes out, I guess it will not be a melee based one.. :(

I haven't completed factions yet!!! only done one ab which I failed miserably :(.
planning to buy nf in a month or two probably.
I think its cool how there expanding the game so fast, eventually it will be the largest game in the world ( if it isnt already ).
I just hope they generate enough money from each chapter so that guild wars stays the one of payment game which makes it
what it is.
I wonder if any new chapters will be seperate from the others, eg back in time or very far away, i doubt it as the theme of the series is one whole world.

Really I'm not ready for the next chapter yet! I somewhat glad they will take their time with it. Isn't the bulk of this one going to be done by the Factions team? I liked farts of Factions, and I'm interested in what they will do with it. *Crosses fingers* Expand Cantha!
