sad state of affairs...

With the occurance of the most recent failure on the part of the support staff for CoX, I am giving serious thought to ending what has been a long and fun ride. When my current game time card runs out, I may be leaving the game and MMORPGS entirely. What brought this about, you ask?

The most recent event is in fact the failure on the part of CoX to award the most recent vet reward badge when it was supposed to be awarded. It is finally there, but only after much badgering of the pathetic excuse for a support staff. This may seem trivial to some, but in light of the fact that this type of thing has been an ongoing battle for me since the vet rewards went live, you may understand.

There have been other issues as well that I won't go into on here, but I let them slide in the past. I've played many MMORPGS in the past, and frankly, I'm tired of paying them to ignore me. I know there are many out there that have issues within the game or any game for that matter, but I would at least like a response to my questions. When I do get a response, it's commonly 'We're looking into it'. This would be fine if there was ever any follow-up beyond that.

I may be being petty about all this, but there is only so much a man can take before he says enough is enough.

If I decide to let my account lapse, and my many toons find shallow unmarked graves for all time, I will pop in here now and then to say hello. Many of you have become valued friends within the game and here on the forums. There is still a month remaining, and we shall see what happens in that time. However, right now, I'm leaning toward bidding adieu to online gaming for a long time to come.

You cant leave dude. Your like the best healer I ever teamed with and your funny as hell. I know you might get pissed off at the support staff once in a while but its not worth quiting the best mmorpg, IMHO. I am really hoping that this is just a spur of the moment type thing. Besides I just respeced in a new build based on the fact that I will have you running RAs, AB, and what not. Please, Please dont quit man. But if you do deside to give the game up I wont hold a grudge against you at all but I really wish you would stay because theres a good chance I might not get to 50 without you. Sorry if I'm rambling but please dont quit. I know for sure I'll do my best to make this the best month of your life. Just gonna throw in one more dont quit for good measure.

It is all up to you. Do what you feel is the best. It is your time, your fun, your money. But since you posted this topic you probably want to hear our opinions.

I think you should ask yourself what is more important. Some response from some big company about some materialistic issues you have about irrelevent items, or the fun and joy you have with people you call friends? It appears corporate customer support is more important than friendship. In which case you have some weird priorities. If you don't enjoy the game anymore, of course you should stop playing. But are you really telling us, and yourself, you stop because customer service is not friendly enough?

I put this up here partly to vent my frustrations, but also let you all know what I have been considering.

Masta, I don't know that I would consider myself all that great a healer though I do thank you for the praise. Remember, I've been learning that set as I went with Medicalbot. It was a set I never really had the patience for before.

No, Path, it has nothing to do with altism or you feeding it, and no Phe, it isn't because some corporate schmuck in customer service isn't friendly enough. I was part of the US Navy, a branch of one of the world's largest corporations, so I know how the little guy gets treated most of the time.

Consider it this way. The difficulties with the game's customer service, which are getting worse, are merely the catalyst that has set off the chain reaction. It's not that I don't enjoy playing, but it is in part like I'm searching for something that I'm just not finding in any of the MMORPGs I've played in the last few years. I never said that the issues with customer service were the sole reason I was considering leaving, after all. It is; however, a reflection of how this 'family-oriented' business sees each of us as subscribers. Not sure why I chose that term? Check out Cryptic's job listings and the way they describe the work environment.

I think they aught to make the support people play the game so they know what it's like to be frustrated by the game. And the other problem Knick is that when you call tech support you probably don't get cryptic studios, you get generic tech support people at NCSoft instead.

Knack, I'm not gonna tell you what to do. You need to do what you think is right. However, I will throw in my two inf. Have you ever had a SERIOUS game problem that the tech support people did not solve? Because if you're getting this upset over just Vet Rewards and other little in-game things, I think you might be overreacting. Also, the Tech Support people for any company are rarely really eager to help anyone out (ever had a serious problem with a Dell computer?). I know things like this can be upsetting, but take this month to cool off, and when it comes time to decide, think about whether or not you really want to throw away a lot of good friendships over some Tech Support issues.

Perhaps, I am overreacting a little, but keep in mind that my choice has not yet been made. I understand what you mean about Dell computers, Crook. It seems the only brand the Navy uses is Dell. Personally, I'll never own one given the choice.

Let me re-emphasize that this is not solely over the vet rewards issue, though that was more or less the last straw. Let me say instead that I play this game as a release or escape from the stress of everyday life. When the game itself starts to become more stressful and frustrating than everyday life, there is an issue of balance to consider. Like I said, I will still be around the site, so I don't know that you can say that I'm throwing away the friendships I've made here.

Well Knick, I'm not gonna try to beg you to stay, nor will I encourage you to leave. You have to make the decision you feel the best about. If you leave the game, I, for one, will miss teaming with you, and fueling your altism.

I'm with John Cena (PoW) here. I won't try to sway you either way, however, whatever you decide, continue to hang here and banter along with the rest of us. That way you can see new expansion info and decide if/when you're ready to come back. :)

Well I for one can say only this, I have only teamed with you on 2 occasions but they were both great, I would miss you as well. I would also miss the further chances to run with you. You're a blast to run with. At the end of the day you make the call on your fate in Paragon City.

Even though it's not really the original topic of the thread, there is something that I was wondering. How many of you still have the 20 digit codes for every version of the game you've added to your account as well as the original e-mail that you got when you started the account?

The plus side of all this is that they are at least trying to figure out what is going on, but every day I get a new e-mail asking for more information. I'm waiting for them to ask me for a blood or urine sample to prove that I am the original owner of the account. *sigh* I'm barely awake and already have a headache from dealing with this.

Actually I keep a spreadsheet of all of my retail software CD keys. And the disks too. I'm up to four boxes of software, some of which is old and unused. Guess I'm a bit of a pack rat. And I never delete emails. I have about 25 folders in my outlook that emails get sorted into. I have emails going back ten years.

Sorry Knick, I know that doesn't help you. If it makes you feel any better in my business I deal with many software companies on a daily basis and I can tell you all of them are like that. It's the same all over. Course that means the best they can claim to be is average. You would think since they rely on continuous revenues that they would try to be somewhere above average at least to those of us who pay their bills.

I wish I still had all that stuff. What can you expect though when I've moved 5 times and was in the Navy for over half that time? I'm a pack rat, but I never expected to need them. Also, I'm pretty sure the e-mail was back when I was suffering through using either Aol or the like as an ISP.

Maybe, I should just take what I've managed to get done with them and call it good, but I'm a very stubborn Irishman.

I keep them also. Not so much the e-mails unless they are really important but the keys I do. Those are very important as it is always asked for when you have a problem. I would say Knick to just help them as much as you can. Be honest with them about everything (like you wouldnt right lol) and see what they can do.

That's what I'm doing, Lunar and hoping for the best. We'll see what happens from there. And for the record, what happens with all this account stuff is not going to be what decides if I keep playing or not.

You know Knick, i've had feelings like you are going through right now...I had a spell where things were not totally going right and I started feeling a little...blah about the game and gaming in general.

I'd advise just to take a small little break away from this game and do something else...I actually picked up my XBox and played some games on there for a bit. After about a week or so, It hit me and I knew I wanted to play the CoX games and just needed a slight break from it.

But yeah, I know how it is at times when little things pile up on other little things and when you wake up one day, you now have chaos and disorder.

Wait...we're supposed to keep all of that original boxing/IDs/etc.???? **frantically searches through garbage dump for lost boxes**

Sorry, keep your head up and stay plugged into this site and at least that way, you're still somewhat involved with what's going on and when you decide to come back (if you decide to leave), you'll be in the know of all the new content.

You may have hit the nail on the head, Don. Maybe, all I need is a little break from playing in general. That said, if I disappear from the game for a week or so, nobody panic. It may well be me taking Don's advice and taking a break.

I have decided that I will probably keep my account active regardless of what I decide over all, at least initially. After all, if I leave and then decide to come back, I don't want to miss out on any vet time....lol.

Just to update where I stand on my debate, I am still considering leaving the game. The only way I can describe it is that it's like I've lost the joy of playing. I think that may actually be at the root of the most recent bout of extreme altitis.

Now for the part that will likely get me flamed. I recently created a new account, 10 day trial, on WoW. It would be a case of starting over again from the bottom given how much the game has changed since I left it. I don't know yet if it will just be a break from CoX for a while or a permanent change of venue. Either way, I'll still be on Gameamp though it may be on the WoW site more often than not.

Ok, let the flames commence....

KK if you havent figured it out we dont tolerate flaming and your choice to try other games will not result in that. Another thing I can suggest to you...apply for the plethora of beta games out there. LotRO, Tabula Rasa, Conan (starts soon), Exteel, and there are tons of games w/ trials too...if you need any help or suggestions PM me.

There is nothing wrong with trying other games Knick. I am looking forword to Pirates of the burning sea and Star Trek Online. I play Guild Wars from time to time, but obviously nowhere near CoX. Sometimes you can get burned out. I did with heroes. I was tired of making just scrappers and could not get into anything. Tried all kinds of different things until I found something that was the last thing I thought I would enjoy.

So take a break and let things sit for awhile. Paragon City will be here when you decide to come back. You will always be welcome my friend.
