Bad minis, bad...
I vote against the mini-pets in towns. LA was not majorly, but noticably more choppy. That may be the festival decorations. My computer struggles with Kaning City (that and the HB with the siege point are the only two areas it doesn't like)... I don't even want to try visit Cantha right now with the change.
I don't like minis in combat zones either, but it's my choice to group with those who use them.
Cast your votes for or against the minis in towns----

Hmm, if you actually read his post he is saying that it affects the way his computer plays the game, pressumably an older machine. He's not complaining about the idea of the pets, but that people with older computers can't handle the extra weight in towns, pressumably this is why it's capped at 20 mini's per town right now. I'm hoping that there will be an option to *turn off* minipets, especially the sounds, I don't want to have to hear them particularly o.O

Don’t like fun? What kind of comment is that? If I don’t find mini-pets fun, then I guess I don’t know what fun is, huh.
I like that mini-pets exist for those who do find them fun though. I am not once of those people. It’s unnecessary visual clutter and has an annoying “look at how cool I am with my pet” factor. Turning off the sound was an awesome idea. I wish there were checkbox in options to render mini-pets or not though. Turning off the sound in towns was a very good start.
I have an old laptop I play on occasionally and a new mid-range computer. The new computer handles the towns fine, but it feels a little more choppy. Not huge, but I liked it smoother. I’m not saying it’s pets that’s doing it, but the fact that there is a 20 pet cap implies that there is some performance concern.
But the point of this post isn’t to argue if mini-pets are cool or fun or if there’s some strange fetish obsesion going on. The point is do you like them in towns, dislike them in towns, or could care less?

Pets are fine, but pets in town?
Not against the concept, but the actual usage?
One more thing for people to spam in districts:
"SOMEBODY REMOVE THEIR PET SO I CAN SHOW MY UBER DRAGON OFF!"
It'll be no fun when 20 sellers who don't even do anything decide to keep their pets out 23 hours out of the day.
My vote: Keep the pets where they are. Lag is gonna be a big issue, but also just the absurdness of the idea. In large towns, who's gonna be able to even see the pets? Go to Kamadan dist 1 and look around the Xunlai Agents; could you honestly see any minipets there?

From what I read, Gaile heard how loud the Troll was particularly...more than likely they'll make some kind of a volume adjustment on the minipets, or do something to make the noise more manageable.
Also, there's more than likely more traffic in towns to check out the new features, it'll stabilize in a few days.

Well there can only be a max of 20 pets out per district so it'll never happen.

I had a mini troll once and I took it out during that quest in the jungle where you have to kill that wind rider and get some eye and it roared and my teammate was like "oh ----! everybody stick together!" until he noticed it was my pet. XD It was hilarious and everybody was cracking up. =)
I don't really mind the minipet thing going on in towns because I can make some cash off of the minipet craze =)
PS does anybody know how much a temple guardian, jungle troll or necrid horseman goes for?

Let people have their pets.
20 little mini-pets in the town doesn't cause THAT much lag.
They may cause a teeny-tiny bit but not as much as what you're saying.

Really depends on your system and isp. Some people I know cannot function in Kamadan D1.
But after calming down from an event unrelated to this update, I really don't mind the pets. It's just a stocking stuffer to the whole present we got with it.

+20 minipet is like having +3 players, really. It won't summon the Lag Daemon to your PC.
When I had 256MB RAM, mapping was slow, and I had really bad lags in the northern shiverpeaks.
With 512MB RAM, Tyria was okay, some of Cantha wasn't, and the jade sea was unplayable.
With a better vidcard (geforce 6600xt, AGP version), lag in the jade sea almost fully gone, and I had no trouble playing with full details anywhere. Still, rotating the camera in a full kaineng, kamadan or droks district caused skips.
Now I have 768MB RAM with a 8MBit connection, and it's the same.
Those +20 minipets won't count. A fragmented harddrive, a bad virtual memory setting, and lowspec PC would. (Also a faulty soundcard, or those software-driven integrated AC'97 "soundcards" can be bad too...)

personally against minis in towns and outposts, mainly cus of the following:
"OMG whose bone dragon is that!?!??"
"OMG so many varesh minis!"
"OMG OMG OMG!"
"HOW DO I USE MY MINI PET!"
"HOW DO I GET A MINIPET!"
"LOOK I'M CHASING THIS TROLL!"
"LOOK I'M FARMING THIS TROLL!"
"OMG IS THAT MALLYX!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"
Plus the clutter would suck, am all for the minis in explorable areas, but towns no, next along would be ranger pets in towns, and that would suck, then after that you get monsters in towns and you suddenly have a free-roaming game with no actual towns at all

same could go for FoW armor...
"OMG what armor is that!?!??"
"OMG that armor looks so nice!"
"OMG OMG OMG!"
"WHERE DO I GET THIS ARMOR!"
"HOW DO I GET THIS ARMOR!"
"LOOK ALL THOSE WAR HAVE FOW!"
"LOOK THAT ARMOR IS SOOO KEWL!"
"OMG IS THAT FOW!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"
... After some time, it will calm down...

Even with new machines the extra graphics in towns will hurt.
The more RAM you have for your computer the better it can run, so its not about how new your computer is its mainly about how much ram it has to move information, a lot of graphics = a lot of players and stuff = more info = more ram needed to move the information around in your computer.
So even if you have a 5 year old laptop or a brand new Dell more ram is always better.
Made for another forum I go on, Just felt the need to do something with this sig.

Mini Pets, humm love em or hate em there going to be around for a while yet.
1. As for having them in towns its going to add some classic comic moments and images that'll liven and lighten the game atmosphere, they will cause some lag but eventually something else they introduce will cause people PC's to need upgrading. Unfortunatly all Pc's have a lifetime and eventually it runs out and its got to be a new or serious upgrade.
2. Yeh the noise is a bit annoying, but i tend not to spend hours in the towns and outposts i go in trade/buy etc and then i'm outta there heading for something else i want to do. I also dont think that there as bad as some of the players you encounter sometimes. Is it me or homer-i-tis becoming more prevelant in some places.

It's really not that big of a deal, like someone said earlier 20 minipiets = 3 people.
Not to mention the game does come with a minimum and SUGGESTED requirement. If your machine isn't somewhat up to date, expect the game to run slower for you. (no offense to anyone I know they're pricey). I ran Guild Wars on low graphics with a minimum req PC and it ran fine. (in kamadan dis 1 with the mini pet update.)
Point being let people have their pets, A-Net showed appreciation to people who stuck with the game for over a year. If it murders your PC THAT bad, chances are you need to update or get a better ISP.

I'll go against the majority here, mini-pets in town are fine by me. I have several minis that were birthday gifts or Collector Edition gifts, and quite frankly I usually completely forget I even have them. I thought it was nice to actually 'use' one in town.
Yeah, I could sell them since they ARE completely useless outside the fun factor, but why? I don't need the money. I'll keep my gifts, no need to sell them. *shrugs*
I do like the idea of shutting down the pet noise- I have a Kuuna and Troll...they are noisy lil buggers and I would happily shut down their roars if I could.
And the pet buying craze I believe is just timing. I had four random people run up to me and ask to buy my Kuuna...I wasn't advertising to sell it...just bandwagon players see a ton of pets in town and start spamming "WTB pet, any pet I need one I'm desperate" (which was an actual shout I saw in Kamadan last night, btw) Maybe it is just another ultimately worthless status symbol, like fancy armors or special weapon skins, but we all know that some players get very caught up on 'keeping up with the Joneses' rather than working on skills.
But at least I can use my toys in a place where I'll remember I have them- I don't think about them when I'm out questing or fighting.

Its nothing new, only a small percentage of clutter, but then again, turn local off in such places, saves so much problems.
Im very very very sad, small and childish, and i sooooo like all the minipets, gotta catch em all wooooow! *drool*
No rly... 20 minipets are like 4-5 characters running randomly in a town, so it shouldn't cause that much lag, unless you just have an old PC, might want to get XP or Vista running on it, should ease the pain of your low FPS.

Yeah, the hype will wear off, unlike the hype during/after each farming weekend where everyone tries to sell their loot fast before the market gets full of those.
And trust me, a videocard with at least 128/256megs ram counts as much as +256 megs of ram. I tested the difference.
But also trust me, that 20 minipet won't give you that much extra load.

Don't bet on trolls winning battles with other minipets. They'll just get farmed. I like the update, and have no problems because AC/DC always outrocks some wimpy mini roar. Then again, my computer is top-of-the-line... But seriously, I didn't even associate mini-pets with pokemon until you mentioned it silvershock >.> WHO'S OBSESSED WITH POKEMON NOW?!?!?!?!
