Useless Update

I dont know about you, but alot of these changes in the new update are just plain and simply useless, for example:

1) The Skill Bar displayed in the Skills and Attributes panel now allows the player to change the order of equipped skills while in a mission or explorable area.

2) The Skill Bar displayed in the Skills and Attributes panel can be expanded into a set of full descriptions by a new button on the bar itself.

3) The "Sort by:" drop list has been removed and replaced by the following iconic drop menus:
Sorting Method, which offers all the options the "Sort by:" drop list used to offer.
Display Mode, which offers "Display as a list," "Display as a small grid," and "Display as a large grid.”

I see no usefulness from any of these...new sorting options, new skill icon displays, a button that expands your skill set to see their effects (which you can just move your mouse over to see them anyways), and the ability to reorder skills (wth?!?!)...

Woop di frickin do

But the one that really shined in its complete lack of functionality was this

4) You can now use miniatures in towns and outposts. Only 20 miniatures can be used at a time per district.

I always thought mini pets were stupid...but this has been taken to a whole new level. But at least if your going to allow them to be shown in towns, make the allowable amount more than 20, come one, how many people are in a district usually? ALOT. This will only frustrate players who want to show their pet and will aslo add extra strain and lag to servers.

the only, and I repeat only, good thing that came from this is the character changing while still logged in.

RE: Useless Update

So says you. I found all of these updates to be both fun and useful. If you don't like them don't use them. Simple as that. You, and i repeat YOU, dont have to have your minipet out in town. No one is forcing you to do it. Before you say "But I dont want to see everyone elses either", here is a question for you. Does it ruin your day to see them? Or perhaps you are jealous because you dont have a certain one. I dont know, and I dont care. I on the other hand like it and that it was a great idea.

Why 20? To keep it from becoming lagfest. Simple reasoning. If I go into a town and cant pull out my pet, oh well!! I can do it again later.

The point here is, all you have done is came on here and whined about changes to the game that in no way shape or form effect the overall play of the game. You didnt present one bit of reasoning why they are bad changes. The changes were meant to improve the UI and to add a bit of fun to it.

Get over it!!!

That is exatly why they are useless, because they dont do anything for the game of gw. If you are going to changes things, you should do it to introduce new ways of playing, not looking at skill descriptions. And you yourself have not provided reason as to why this updates are good changes. And what is so fun about reordering skills in a mission? How does the ability to view large skill icons improve the UI?

THey make changes all the time that effect play. This change happen to effect the UI and some fun things. I don't need to present reasons why I like it. I didn't come on here crying about it, now did I? On top of that you will NEVER see me complaining aboout something Anet does. Why? because for everything that I don't like I figure there are thousands of people who do. And you know what? The game isnt made to to make me, one person, 100% happy. We are a community of thousands and thousands. Anyone that wants to whine about something needs to get their ego in check and realize this.

What?
People complain about the huge updates (Skill, HA changes etc.) then you get threads saying "This sucks, I'm quitting GW!"
Now they come out with a fun little update right before a holiday event and you're complaining that it's useless?
Introducing new little features here and there, no matter how insignificant, helps keep the game fresh and lively.

I find this new update a great little change from the recent skill changes and it's definitely easier to look at your skills now :)

Stop complaining.
gg, Anet.

1) Say you keep hitting the wrong button for a skill, or do get them positioned like you want them to before you party leaves town. Just switch them around. :)

2) My best guess on this one is for writing guides, just hit that button, and screenshot. Then post the cutout picture, it lists attributes skills and effects all in 1 small picture.

3) I actually found this quite nice. I can see how it would help the more advanced players that know their skill icons(me included), to find the skills they need.

To expand a little on my last point, I find it much easier to recognize an image then have to look through a list of words, looking for the skill you need.

RE: Useless Update

Well I found all those new updates to be quite interesting, but the one in particular that I was actually happy to see was the addition of the ability to change the order of skills outside of towns. Sometimes when you're running around somewhere or in a mission you realize that a different order would be easier to use and make the using of your skills more fluid, so it's nice to be able to change those whenever now.

1) The Skill Bar displayed in the Skills and Attributes panel now allows the player to change the order of equipped skills while in a mission or explorable area.

I designed some of my own builds. There were many times when I accidentally switched two skills and not had them in the order I used to, and kept hitting the wrong button.
UPDATE: Useful.

QUOTE
2) The Skill Bar displayed in the Skills and Attributes panel can be expanded into a set of full descriptions by a new button on the bar itself.

And you can change attributes and see the changes of ALL of your equipped skills together, so you can easily and quickly finetune your build, without hovering like a madman.
UPDATE: Useful.

QUOTE
3) The "Sort by:" drop list has been removed and replaced by the following iconic drop menus:
Sorting Method, which offers all the options the "Sort by:" drop list used to offer.
Display Mode, which offers "Display as a list," "Display as a small grid," and "Display as a large grid.”

The first dropdown is the same as it was, so it won't take away and functionality, but the small iconic thing is really good, because if you know your build, you know the icons too - this way you can find them more easily, since in a grid view you can see much more skills together than in list mode.
UPDATE: Kinda useful.

I always thought mini pets were stupid...but this has been taken to a whole new level.

*shrugs* Actually, I really like my minipets. And it's so fun when a Rurik and a Charr shaman are chasing each other.

That's why there's a 20 limit, to reduce lag.

As you can see, I found all the other ones useful too (and minipets are optional eye-candy anyways...)

I think they all have a lot to do with the game. Personally there's a lot of new skill sets that I try out and it's nice to be able to reorder them on the fly to get a better feel.

And personally, I like to keep a high resolution on my monitor to see as much as possible, but sometimes everything else is too small. It's nice to see crap without having to wear my contacts after putting in a 12 hour day behind a monitor at work.

And I thought having the pets in town was a better idea than having them out while you play. They drive me nuts when I'm trying to concentrate on the enemies.

As far as introducing new ways of playing, they do that all the time by adding new battle types. Like the hero battles. Just because you don't like the updates doesn't mean they weren't welcomed by others in the community. If they aren't causing you additional grief, pain, loss of functionality, or additional bugs, I don't think there should be a complaint.

My 2 cents.

Amen, posted same thing in the topic called "new update"

I think mini pets are for the smaller, more childish gw players who like having a gw version of a pokemon. (If some more mature players feel offended by this, plz ask yourself the question: Why do I like small, annoying pokemon wannabees, when I'm old enough to drive a car?" before you start flaming me:P

[off]So driving a car is mature? I'm 26 and I'm proud of NOT having a car. There are so many advantages not having one.[/off]
And by the way, it's a game, why can't it be funy and entertaining? Why do people yuck if a game is fun and not bloody serious? I can't understand HC gamers, who think being perfect is the main goal. For me, entertainment is. Minipets are entertaining for me.

If you're so mature, why are you playing a game? ;)

RE: Useless Update

I love walking my little Panda around LA.
If someone walking their little pet around annoys you SO MUCH just go somewhere else.
If you go to your local park, people are walking their dogs and you have no right to say they can't.
Just let the people have their pets out, even if you don't like them yourself.

And no, 20 little pets walking around doesn't cause as much lag as you think.

Meese, I would understand why you posted this if you said that the new update did anything negative. But you say that things didn't improve for you. This is the same as if there were no updates at all and I don't see threads everyday complaining that there was no update today that would improve gameplay. Or are you actually complaining that the 5 seconds that it took to download the update were a waste of your precious time?

Hey dude, I'm 28 and I kinda like Pokemon. (The cartoon and video games...never got into card games) :-p

It's just one of those little things that makes the game a bit more 'extra fun' for us players.

RE: Useless Update

I love this update.

Skill Changing? Sweet.

Char Changing? Awesome.

Minipets in town? Meh.

While I do think it's a fairly pointless update (what with the minipets) I now realize that it's just something Anet threw into the package. It's a stocking stuffer.

RE: Useless Update

Ok pets in towns is a bit of fun and also, as told by a fellow guild member, a new market for getting cash rolling. 200k for selling off free pets, anyone?

The skill switching is definately a good update as said by all those previous. The number of times you play a specific build setup and have two skills the wrong way around is just plain frustrating, now thats no longer a problem.

Although I am not against any of these new updates, it still leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth when they could have added some updates that have been requested before any of these new ones eg increased storage capacity, increased material stock limit etc

Though to some extent i find the pet update useless its been like a craze since release. Kinda like pokemon :P

RE: Useless Update

this update is amazin. mind you i havent been able to get on as of late, but i have looked the updates on GW.com and on wiki and seen numerous i really look foreward to when i get back on. such as the addition like, the charr bag. this is a great thing for people who have prima pres (like moi lvl 16.6) and the mini's in town is fun. i usually just sold off my mini's but now i might start keeping them so i can have a pal with me in town, it gets lonely durring those long sell hours. also sweet tooth, YES PLZ. i have a ton of built up fruit cakes that i like to use in large towns to get around, and now it pay well. the thing i look foreward to most tho is the canthan new year. so gl all and have some fun.

p.s. how u all like the new sig?

RE: Useless Update

I know this has been said plenty of times already but this post made me a little angry.

A-Net has been getting flame after flame for doing what they think is best for their company and our community. And not to mention in the meantime keeping the game interesting for us. It's smaller things like this that make the game what it is. What you consider "useless" is a lifesaver to other people. Like the skill re-ordering (isn't that frickin awesome?!). Not all people play the same way, like the list sorting and whatnot isn't to important to me, but it is a neat little feature and it helps a lot of people.

So what if we didn't get what we've been wanting, it's obviously not vital or else we couldn't play the game. A-Net has different priorities than what we want, their designers don't work specifically off what you yourself want.

I play this game to have fun and relax, not get 100% serious 100% of the time.

It's all in fun. Everyone has a different opinion, no need to basically insult the maturity of people because they enjoy a certain feature of the game that you don't appreciate.

Sounds like your one of the few frustrated about it, maybe you are indeed secretly just jealous that you can't show any minipet?

I don't flame you, but if you are as serious on Guild Wars as you are at your work or something, then that's fine, but i play the game to have fun like so many other's, if your opinion is that we are all childish and should play with toy cars and play war all the time, fine, it annoys you to the max.
But keep it to yourself, avoid any person with a minipet, and get a helmet and hide in your basement, people will always get the smaller useless things in Guild Wars because for showing off, or for fun, and you can wage a war against it, but its useless to start with.

No, im not flaming nor that i am anywere near offended, sure, im childish, but im happy in general, all work and no play makes everyone a dull person.
Yep, im aware that AMP is for people to show their opinions, well im just telling you mine, and don't even try to change my opinion about it, i play to relax, you do it in your way, but aslong as you keep it on AMP its all good, since stopping people from getting the small childish things in Guild Wars, is next to impossible.

No offense, but do you know what RPG stands for? ;)

If you go to your local park, people are walking their dogs and you have no right to say they can't.

Wish they didn't. Reality lags soooo much... If only they haven't added CruelGravity with the infamous Newton patch...
But the LightBulb 0.2 first presented in the Edison patch was so cool, without that we'd watch TV by candlelight. :P

And for all who moans of the lack of usefulness: for Bast's sake, it's a game, not an office tool. It meant to be entertaining, not useful and precise. Lip-sync wasn't useful either, but I'm glad they implemented. The effects of the spells aren't really useful. Actually, why have nice and awesome graphics - a 2D or a diablo-like interface would be faster... or, let's just go and play nethack, it's functional, it's character based, there's no lag, even on lowspec computers!!! [sarcasm off]
