WL the ok PL?

I have noticed while fighting Winter Lords that many people were doing it just to help out there friends who just started playing...

I love the wl's... good source of xp and well, who else will give you snowballs? But after this WL phase is gone we are going to be stuck with more higher levels with lower level mindsets... Even for experienced players who knoe how to play this game it can be hard... the transition from one archtype to another can sometimes throw peopl off track... But does anyone see the winter lords as a negative... maybe they should go back to limited spawning... I have worked hard to get to level 27 so when i see a new who knoes nothing of the controls and is welll, not doing so well, i feel kinda horrible...

I have seen characters go from 1-20 in a day, that's never a good thing, ok, so alot of them are alts (like anyone playing a Kheldian) and they know the game so the arguement can be made that it's different (though you could argue that one back n forth all day) But i'm sick of getting seeing totally clueless L20's "what's an enhancement?" o-k... The WL hunting is alot of fun, but it's provided an easy source of PL'ing that is going to have repurcusions (sp?) for a long time to come

I agree about the noobs going crazy, but, I have to admit, I've gone crazy as well...I've got the majority of my alts to level 20, and I'm excited about it...they aren't weak and they can kick butt. That being said, I've also been playing since May and I know how to fight and how to use the controls for my heroes.

But, the xp is totally insane. This morning on Triumph, no one was around and the four man team I was on was getting between 4000 and 5000 for every WL we nabbed...and this was in AP, my level 15+ to the WLs level 5. I went from level 19 to level 20 in 45 minutes. They were spawning all around us and every spawn zone was empty of hunters. I stopped at 20 with my alts because I haven't seen the content for the 20's yet and I want to play it through as regular missions from this point on.

Damn, it is fun though, gotta admit that.

I have to agree as well with your argument, alot of them don't know as much as one who earned their xp. And to be honest sometimes i get mistaken for a newbie bc i tend to forget locations and so forth for different characters. I've had problems where someone kill stealed and they didn't know what that meant!!! I think we won't be seeing the WL in a two weeks...i'm sure the Admins have already gotten enough complaints from Heroes.

That's the problem I'm having with Shyvver. I hit level 17 with him by hunting Winter Lords. Pretty much the ONLY thing I've done was hunt Winter Lords since like level 7. So with him, I'm stopping. I'm only going to hit Winter Lords with my other characters to get them up a bit. I'm playing an Energy/Lightning blaster over on freedom that I brought from level 6 to level 12 over the last 2 days by very casually hunting them. (An hour here and there) Energy blasters get some real hard hitting attacks at a low level.

i'm kinda torn here.... in some ways it is power gaming (not power lvling) b/c you are getting tons of xp, but you are fighting them right? you are using your skills and finding out what works and what doesn't? it isn't like you guys are standing your character at the train station while your team takes down the WL, right? so you are learning how to use your powers, but you are missing out on a lot of content in the game......

now for the alts argument, it isn't so bad b/c you aren't missing out on the content, but every AT is different so you still do need to learn how to play that character, i mean just b/c you got your scrapper to lvl 50, doesn't mean you would have any idea how a blaster needs to be played...

bah, to many circle arguments going in my head about this, and sadly i haven't had a chance to get any of my alts up w/ this event (i've gotten the badges w/ my main and that is the only hunting of the WL i've done) but i'm not saying that if i could get my lvl 11 fire/emp cont up to say a decent lvl (and doing more than 12 pts of damage) it would bother me all that much, hey i may even play her if she wasn't so sad (no really she is sad), but i just haven't been able to bring myself to log her and take down the WL

The missing content is one thing. The issue I'm finding with my own characters is that I know how to fight the winter lord REALLY well, which will probably come in handy for fighting other monstersized things in the future. However, if you put me in front of a regular mission now, I'm having trouble. 15 Lost in Steel Canyon...my thought was "Crap, where the heck are the Lost in Steel Canyon". I was level 17 and had only been there once.

I've become dumb. Winter Lords have dumbed me down. That's why I won't do Winter Lords with Shyvver anymore unless I happen across one in my travels.

The lower level characters, I'll still do a few for a bit, just to get them up a little. I should get FE in there to take some down. I've also gotta get Believer up a couple levels to make him useful as a Defender.

I am probably the biggest supporter for WL's, but even I have to say that I will be glad when it's over. It's almost like a visiting relative that stays too long... the joy eventually goes sour. I have been trying to stay capped on WL leveling at around 20. I have dusty mishions that will be total wipeouts when I get around to them. Ah well, someday we will be complaining "what happened to our cash cows?" lol

That's one of the downsides of the Winter Lords...the experience is great, but the Influence leaves a lot to be desired. You get practically nothing for them, "cash" wise. There are some enhancements I would love to get for Shyvver and I just can't afford them. Also, I can start getting DO enhancements for Geoff and I can't afford those either.

I am gonna put my own 2 cents in. Guys this is a game, and part of gameplay and getting lvls as fast as you can. That is part of the fun. As far as WL's, hey at least they are working for the xp not getting freebee's. I know players who did it the hard way and still don't know how to play a character. As far as not knowing the maps. LOL That just means you get to have more fun exploring them. I have never even been to SC. But I will get there sooner or later.

My point. If you see someone playing there character stupidly, well give them some advice, if they don't listen then forget them and move on. Its a game. You get plenty of crap in Real Life, don't bring more drama to the game. LOL Its suppose to be fun, not stressful. As far as the WL is concerned, I earned my experience by wooping on him. SO don't feel that just because its an event xp boost you are PLing. Hell get your alts up to 20 as fast as you can, before its over.

I have had the luxury of not having to worry about influence with most of my main characters, as I keep running into high level (40+) characters who have given me money. No, I do not go begging like some of these saps who broadcast for cash...

EXAMPLE #1 - I had just created Mr. Rictus, had just come on screen in Atlas, and hadn't moved a foot. A level 50 character standing right in front of me sends me a trade box and gives me a ton of cash! Before I even get to move! (if you need some, contact Mr. Rictus on Triumph and I will see what I can do for you)

EXAMPLE #2 - Last night with Chalk I go to Skyway to level. There is a level 46 standing there asking if I know where the Hero Corps guy is to change level difficulty on this map. I tell him to follow me and lead him the 30 feet over to the guy. Trade window comes up, 9's across the board! I think this is the 2nd time with her that this has happened. (She is on Infinity if you need some... share the wealth)

Regardless, some people may or may not like this gifting, but I think it is part of what creates an overall nice gaming community and I plan to start doing it to other low level characters.

And I have to laugh and agree with the above statement... less drama, more gaming enjoyment!

I don't consider it power leveling, that's not an issue. I consider powerleveling very specific. It's when someone doesn't earn the experience in any way whatsoever. They stand at the T station, joined up to a team of heroes, the rest of the team goes out and does it's thing, while the person getting power leveled just stands around and does nothing in the safety of the T station.

That is power leveling. The Winter Lord, on the other hand, is kind of an exploit. The lower level ones in Kings Row, Atlas Park, Perez Park and The Hollows really aren't much of a challange, yet result in a boatload of experience, particularly if you're on the team that deals most of the damage to it.

Not everyone wants to level as quickly as possible. I play the game to have FUN. Although I like leveling quickly, I prefer to have a good time. Winter Lord hunting is now only fun because it's cool to be the first person to get a hit on it. Unfortauntely being a blaster, that sometimes results in an icicle to the face, but hey, it's a small price to pay for bragging rights.

I agree with the last statement. I have a friend who started playing the same time I did, and he plays roughly as often. He is now level 21 since he has focused solely on his blaster, but he is the worst player I know. He is horrible to team with. You go an mezmerize a bunch of goons and he hits them with Fire Rain. You bring in your scrapper and he scatters the opponents so you end up running around trying to catch them. And he wades right in to use punch, and dies in the middle of the fight. Not a clue. No amount of experience will help people who are blind to strategy and tactics.

In the meantime, the warnings about out-levelling your own abilities holds true. I am getting my 3 other friends (not the one mentioned above) together onto a team for task forces. I needed to create a team-based character, so made a defender. I then used my friends assistance to fight WLs to get him up to 12th level so I can contribute on missions. Now, I am level 12, and have no knowledge of how 4 of my powers work, since they would not be effective against the Winter Lords. Tonight I will have to sign on and go missioning simply to figure out the powers I already have.

Nonetheless, I do like the Winter Lords. I think they are over-used though. In Kings Row last night, they were spawning every 30-60 seconds, sometimes up to 3 at a time. It was great for the purpose I had, but if you overdo it, you are going to find your character high level without any knowledge of the powers, and your contacts are going to tell you they can not utilize you, leaving you with no contacts in any part of the city. Thus, no missions except task forces.

As all other things in life, Moderation is the key.

On the contact side of things, if you outlevel your contacts, they'll introduce you to new ones. The bad thing is though, you'll wind up running around to contacts who have nothing for you until you finally get to the right one.

At least I think that's how it works.

Try using your powers against Frostlings, as they do usually work. Just to get an idea anyhow...

My mains are Alch and Blackhawk....been playing them since July. If they have ever been PL'd it has been maybe one slot and if I totaled the hours it would be an hpur *together. I can get a new hero to level 10 in 3hours and Im goin to abuse the WL XP. I dont have enough time to play 8 or 9 heroes and I want to be able to expierence all their powers. I think all lot of people just dont use common sense when it comes to power using. Scraps and tanks really dont need to know how to use their powers. Most of the time they go in and hit stuff or take damage. Controllers, Defenders and to some points Blaster are the ones I think that need to know when and where to use powers. Defenders and Controllers tend to be the saviors of teams. The healers, the endurance givers, the holders of enemies and etc. Learning appriopate timing of powers is good and most of the time you learn those during the leveling process. Like someone said earlier that they have seen heroes in high levels still not know how to use powers effectively (not the right way, dont like that term). I dont like to tell people how to use powers because they may be playing a different way than nromal.

I say use it while you can. When you get in your late 20's and higher the xp you get from WL is about an 1/8 of one bar. Cant help it that being lower level that XP you get is "powerlevel-espue". This is a one of those debates that can rage on forever. Pros and Cons. Good and Bad. Abuse or Helpful. Fighting him if you want or ignore him. It will be gone soon and everytthing will be normal (sorta).

One good thing that the devs have accomplished by getting alot of heroes to lvl up to their 20s this quickly: There will be some great teaming in Striga Isle soon, so people who haven't had a chance to explore its many facets (like me) can spend the next several levels in a new zone with a new character.

Gads, I must be the loser of losers when it comes to Winter Lords. I quite frankly get more experiance killing a BP Storm Shaman than I do from a WL. Even in a team I only see about 500K a kill in Independance Port. Which is why I have trouble understanding this whole Power Level thing with WLs. In the 20 minutes it takes to kill a WL, I can run a mission and get 5 times as much exp. Obviously, I am doing SOMETHING wrong. {grin}

It's more of a "power level" for lowbies. It takes about 20 seconds to kill a Winter Lord in Kings Row when a whole slew of people swarm it. Even with that many, I usually get between 500 and 1000 per kill. Sure at level 30, that's nothing, but at level 7, that's everything.

The WL took a full 8 man team and then some scragglers to take him down. This was with repeated heals and such. The XP is based on damage done. Also I found recently the general size of your group affects the xp size also but it isnt that bad. An 8 man team that does 100% damage to a Atlas Park WL should get at least 2600. The lower the team number the higher the xp goes up but even as 8 man team 2600 for something that spawns 2-3 sometimes in each spot. Try going to Atlas, KR, or PP.

Ok I think that Im starting to come off my WL high w/ my main hero. Being that my main is in the 30's the xp from WL is great in large numbers. Over a week time frame from helping other people level and such I was able to get 2 levels. That is huge when most of your levels are in the 400k's. What made me come to reality was when I noticed my enchancements were in the red. So I had maybe 600k influence. I dont have many SO's; mostly in my attacks and 2 or 3 in my defenses and travel pools. So I started buying what I needed and you know what I ran out of Influence. I still have like 5-6 enchancements that could be improved. But I have a kind heart and had lent a fellow SG member probably 300k because he had been out for awhile and was trying to catch up w/ me and was doing alot of WL'ding. I also gave a random level 1 90k and passed out small amounts of 10-20k to random people who helped me in need. But all the WL'ding kept me from missions bcz you get 1/2 the influence of the XP you get for him. Now Im out of flow and back to the missions. WL'd has worn off my main.....better now than too much later. Thanks support group.

Thanks link but its ok. I made my bed and now I must lay in it. I can do a couple of missions and then I will get my flow back plus I have a couple of friends that are level 38's and they have a bazillion in influence that I can bum from. Thanks again.

i did it!!! i finally found a WL team!!! i was on w/ my fire emp cont (she was lvl 11 for a VERY long time) and after a few short time of hunting (ap then steel) she is now lvl 18!! i may actually enjoy playing her now (she eats end like you wouldn't believe) but after looking for 1/2 hour last night i finally found a group to take her!!! the xp is AMAZING!!!! i can see how this is addicting, i stayed up way to late last night telling myself, "ok after this next one i will leave" i finally had to force myself to leave after i hit lvl 18 b/c i was falling asleep at the keyboard

Every team request I get nowadays seems like its a team hunting the WL. They're part of the reason why I can't wait for this event to end.

We are fighting WL!" and I always catch broadcats which are requesting a few more heroesto join a wl team... what happened to doing tf's... used to get that one alot not anymore... i've never been an altaholic... all of my other characters have been seriously neglected (i hadn't played Inti in at least 6 months) but i've been trying to get on a team w/ my main (Liz lvl 40 ar/ele blaster) since it began... the groups i got in only hunted one then disbaned (all 4 of them)... i've gone zone to zone w/ her broadcasting looking for WL team, and no luck w/ her... i got on w/ Inti b/c i thought i may have a better chance being lower lvl... but i'm going to head to Steel w/ Liz here soon and see if i can get on a team... i did find out last night that the team that does the most damage (it doesn't matter if you don't do any damage as long as you are on the team) is the one that gets the most xp... Liz can do MEGA damage between using build up and sniper, full auto, and flamethrower, that any team should LOVE her... i just want that 97k of debt gone and i'll be done w/ it for her.... i'm not all that fond of the actually hunting part (kinda boring really) i would rather do some missions and finish story archs, but if i can get rid of my debt it think it may make lvl 40 a bit easier to get through...

Unfortunately with some of the downtime that Triumph has had lately, I switched back to Freedom a few days ago and have had a blast over there. I now have 2 blasters that are both 20th level (I like blasters). It's too bad though, I prefer the people on Triumph, but it's been down several times I've tried to log onto it lately. Freedom is always up. So unfortunately I'll probably stay there. Plus, both of the blasters I have on Freedom were created before the respec, so they both still have it available. :)
