Difficult or Very Easy

Normally I pick my work orders in the category 'moderate'. I tried some 'difficult' orders too in the past, but they fail a bit too often. On moderate I get normally grade C, with a few grade B's, D's and failures. I assumed the tougher the order the higher the award. But today I tried a 'very easy' order. Without any effort I made 5 grade A items. And for that I got rewarded the same amount of coin but a bag with 3 items in stead of 1. So now I am a bit lost. Why should I make difficult items if I get better rewards for the easy stuff? Where is catch?

You will need to make harder stuff in the later levels so you can get xp because later on the easy orders will give you a lot less xp. But if your just starting off in crafting making grade A stuff on easy will give you a lot better xp then a B on moderate earlier on. Simply because it's cheaper, easier and faster. Just spam easy orders till it's too easy for you.

D'oh! Of course. I'll probably get a lot less xp. I haven't checked yet how much less. And what do you call later levels, HNIX? I am currently level 10. I have all the recipes I can get from the recipe man. Do you know where I should move on from here? I want new recipes to start making tier 2 items.

RE: Difficult or Very Easy

I usually pick whatever I feel like doing. If I choose difficult or very difficult ones, I just ignore the complications and only shoot for d grade or possibly c grade. I've got it worked out so that I can usually get c grade every time. If I go for the easy ones, I accept nothing less than A grade.

Perhaps it is just a bug they've not worked out yet with the complications, but I've noticed that you really don't have to even bother with them. By the time you get to the next step, it goes away anyway. Of course if you're shooting for A grade, you'll probably want to take care of them, but if you just want to complete the work orders you can pretty much skip them. I don't know if that means you'll have to do more work orders in the long run to gain the same amount of xp or not, but to me it seems if you get complications and skip them, you're basically going to end up with the same grade item as if you pay the AP to get rid of the complications.

I think that might be a level thing. Complications have huge impact for me. They usually hang around for 5 or 6 turns and they carry on in the next stage. Depending on the complication several things can happen. The most annoying complication is the one that bring the quality down. It can really cost me a whole grade sometimes. Some complications slow down the progress by a percentage. If it would normally take 5 steps to finish a stage, some complications make you need to take 7 or 8 steps to finish it. And then there is the cost complication. If a step normally cost 100 points, it is now increased to 110 or 120. And if you get multiple complications I can get in real trouble. I sort of know which complication cause what and which once I need to clear, but sometimes I just guess and hope for the best.

Maybe the complication impact kicks in at level 7 or so. I can remember that all of a sudden a bunch of orders failed. I thought it was due to a patch change, but now I think I might have just reached a higher level of complexity.

RE: Difficult or Very Easy

That might be the case. I'm glad you brought this up, because I haven't really tried to do any crafting since I hit level 7 in crafting. I'll have to keep this in mind next time I go to it again.

Thanks HNIX! That is a good guide. I made it to 11 and now I have to move to Marok, city of the Orcs, where I will be killed on sight :( I guess I will have to start hiring a few bodyguards.

RE: Difficult or Very Easy

Quick notes about going to those KOS cities... Our friend Sgian, originally from Mekalia, came to Tanvu to be with us there. In order to get recipes from the Tanvu trainer he has to undertake a quest to Martok to talk to an NPC there to learn Kojani style. To not be KOS in Martok he has had to go to Martok and by killing humanoid mobs is gaining the faction there to do that. (animal mobs didn't seem to work) Anyway, from what I have read you need 201 faction to not be KOS. You start at -8200 and need to get to -7999 and the best way is to kill low level mobs.

But then I found this.

"Every continent has an outpost where you can earn faction as outsider with workorders . So crafters really dont have to grind faction on mobs."

and

"The workorders in Tawar Galan give faction for the main cities on Kojan (Martok, Cai'al Brael and Tanvu)."

... but Sgian hasn't tried this yet. :-)

If anyone does use the workorders in Tawar Galan to build faction, I'd be interested to hear how well it works. :-)

It works like a charm! You get 10 faction points per order. I picked up 3 very easy 1 item orders which you can do in about a minute each, and my faction went to 30. I think within half an hour I can set sail for Martok. But stomach was complaining so it will have to wait a little bit. But it works! Great, great tip Tyrlien!

Awesome! Thanks for trying it out. :-) I'll pass that along to Sgian (now that he's killed umpteen mobs on Martok *giggles*)
