I havent played CoV for quite a while now, and i wanna get back into it. I wanna make a new MM cuz my old one got deleted (*insert favorite curse word* hackers) and i want to make a new MM. i mastered /Dark Miasma pretty well but when i was using thugs i found they didnt do enough damage and my healing went to waste. so i decided zombies or mercs. which one does more damage overall. i dont wanna hear ZOMFG get mercs cuz tehy are UBER. all i want to know is which one does more overall damage. and dont say bots, ninjas, or thugs plz i alrdy know those arent for me. thx in advance

I was totally going to say Ninja, but you already dismissed that idea. Zombies deal more damage than Mercs, but they play in a similar way to Ninjas. So if you want something you'll like to play go with mercs. For something more challenging, possibly more rewarding, but maybe not for you, go with zombies.

Lucky for you I've played both a Zombie/Dark and a Merc/Trap.
I really enjoyed running my Zombie/Dark MM, it had a great heal, possibilty for more pets (dark servent and soul extraction) and they do some really nice damage. Its also easier to follow a theme with a Zombie/Dark MM then it is with a Merc.
While I did love my Zombie/Dark I like my Merc/Trapper more. IMO 2 debuffers are better then 1, Zombies get Lich but Mercs get two Spec Ops. The commando will do all the damage you will ever need if slotted correctly, and the Merc animations are way cooler. Merc's are easier killed then Zombies and don't do as much damage, but they do debuff more and are easier to control as they have ranged attacks while Zombies run in and pound on the enemy. Since I run traps I don't have to much of a hard time keeping my Mercs alive either. I get the Force Field Generated slotted wtih 3 Defense Debuffs, you get a Medic thats a damn good healer, and with Leadership the Merc's become even better.
All and all I'd go with Mercs, they are easier to run then Zombies. If you just want to cut down your enemy's with a burage of bullets go Mercs, if you want a tougher beat down war, go Zombies.

**ponders directions given...throws away answer sheet that says Bots**
Well, if you want to know which is best...I'd go with Zombies. Why? Well, simple, their damage output is higher and they come with an extra Pet/Henchmen in the set in Soul Extraction, which is very helpful in a fight. Combined with DM, you'll get 2 extra helpers rather than the normal 6 Henchmen.
Zombies are not hard to control, they just are melee centered and you have to watch that they don't get too far away from you.
Zombies FTW!

I have a 40 merc/dark and have never taken serum. From my understanding it gives one of your mercs "super" resistance to everything for 60 seconds with and end crash at the end. I have yet to find a situation where this would have been nice to have.
As you have played the dark set before, you will appreciate the fact that your mercs stay pretty bunched up around you, making Twilight Grasp work like a dream for keeping them alive. Gets even better when you get your dark servant.

For the holds, I would get both Fearsome Stare and Petrifying Gaze. Fear is awesome against everything. I respeced out of Gaze once I got my Dark Servant as it seems he throws it out fast enough and at least while running solo I usually dont need more than one or two mobs held. They just die too fast.
Not that you asked, but figured I would throw my build out there. The slots are not when they went in, just what I plan to slot. I am a bit shaky on the Patron slotting as the toon is sitting at 40 and she is my highest villian so far.

I had a nice long post typed, but F it. It all ends with the same results, play what you think looks the coolest. Personally the debate about whats the "best" pet is an un-winnable argument. They are all so closely even it's a pointless debate. No one pet is better then the other, period. The PLAYER makes the good Mastermnd, NOT the pet. Play what you like, ignore all the "OMFGZ Bots rule" bull crap.

Depends on yoru play style. Do you like to get into the mix or sit back and snipe?
If you plan to get into the mix, help ally melee players with heals and defense buff. Go zombie. Half your zombie team will melee most mobs which is wher eyou will be. plus they ahve good resistance to take hits.
If you plan to sit back with the corruptors roll mercs. They specialize in in preventing enemies form attacking and dealing damage at great range. Sadly they will be horridly weak in DPS between lvl 15 - 25ish.
Lastly zombies are harder to keep in control. Not as hard as ninjas; but you must have some pet macros to tell them to stop, follow, move to location, defense, aggressive, etc.

Blind Liberty - MM - Hacked Microsoft bot. Now the pets are in charge.

Snickers - MM - Dancing, partying, robot pets

Mercs...without a doubt.
I'm not a fan of zombies at all. I haven't played as one but whenever I'm paired up with a zombie MM (no offense they do), they feel so...inferior. I tend to eye up other classes to see what they're capable of. In some cases I can chalk it up to zombies being set on Aggressive mode. But even if I teach the wonders of a Defensive Attack macro/bind they still can't keep up with my Mercs.
Some merc hate is chalked up that they're mundane soldiers so are "boring". And they rely mainly on DoT bursts and AoE attacks. Sure you may not "one shot" but you kill groups of minions in seconds if you learn to use your MM to attack first (with the M30 grenade), get your ass kicked, and a crowd disappear in front of your eyes.
People overlook the fact Mercs are ranged and group together makes "Bodyguard mode" easier. My Merc MM can Tank like mad if needed. Combine that with DM's Howling Twilight slotted to heal quickly and I tank without worry or survive in bad cases. I'm always the last MM to die, that is if I die.
Also the insane chance of knockback plays gives you the occasional "pwned" moment. If you're luckly you can get a string of knockbacks that prevent your opponent (in PvE and PvP) from attacking you.
Edit-
I also forgot to mention the one thing I like about Zombies. From what I've seen/been told by Zombie using friends they can all (or at least a good chunk) self heal.

Having played all the MM classes to @ lvl i feel its all about play style .. i for one am not a fan of the mele classes, i normally play DM with my mm purely for the fact thats its ana wesome powerset for pet support and crowd control ( my current is a thugs/DM) ninjas justs eem to squishy to me when played with something like poison, others may disagree but i find poision very single foe orientated were as dark is very multiple foe aggresive ...
once you get to lvl 12 things change dramatically when u get the tier 2 pets , grave knight is just sweet for dps the Jounin is just a pleasure to watch as he goes into hide then does assasins strike and then placates lol rinse and repeat :)
anyway my sixith peneth worth is try em all and see were it takes you ... but never underestimate the power of dark miasma its an awesome secondary

You are correct...
I'd say that DM or Poison (the most underrated secondary set for an MM) has to be hands down, the top 2 Debuffing sets in the game :)

only prob that ive found with my MM COmmander Scar(Merc/poison) is that the medic sometimes goes all rambo and runs into mobs. i dont know what he is thinkin but what ever. with good control of your pets this will not be a prob. and merc's 2 spec ops are very nice in a big fight.
