New Profession

I've really gotten bored playing on the same characters and I need a new char. I have a W/Mo and E/Me. What other professions are fun?

lol 3 in 1 day
Welcome to GameAmp! I personally like Ranger they can do lots of stuff they can pull, shoot, trap, if used properly can take quite a bit of damage, interrupt, cause conditions and such so maybe try a ranger

Fristly, WELCOME TO GAMEAMP!!! That goes to the both of ya. xD

Curse Necro and Death Necro can be fun. Also depending on the "fun", Monking can be extremely fun and challenging. :)

RE: New Profession

I wouldn't try monking unless you really want one for the farm capabilities it opens up. I've got a monk in the crystal desert atm and I find her kinda boring to play as. It seems that the team never dies and I never deal any damage. Just click on party members names and hit orison of healing, lol.

I'd would mesmer, they are really fun to play as.

RE: New Profession

If you want to try a defensive character I would suggest a Paragon. They are on the chopping block at the moment due to all the nerfs but they are still great defensively. If you are looking for a Challenge I would take a Monk or Mesmer. Monks can be quite fun because you get blamed for nothing then you can refuse to heal people *BUAHAHAHHAHA*. Mesmers are difficult but once you get the hang of them they can be a fun profession. If you are looking for Offense I would suggest a Necro or Ranger because with the right skills you can take out big groups with ease. If you are looking at a Dervish or Assassin I suggest try the campaigns first so you understand what you are doing because people won't really accept you in their own groups do to all the "noobs". Rits can be used defensively and offensively depending on what you want to do. Some of the Rit builds are GREAT offensively because they put out a lot of damage. They can heal well and use Spirits for Protection. It all depends on how you like to play the game. For farming you can probably find enough builds here. I hope this helps.

Bleh man Paragons require a certain type of player; I tried one and it's REALLY boring. Especially when you start out. you get confused as to whether or not you're supposed to be offense or defense. Since there is only 4 per group when you start (or in PvP RA or TA) if you're defense you'll often lose offence on your team and you're not powerful enough to be a substitute healer.

It's completely different from rituals or monking, with Rituals you can at least see when they are finished keep them up etc. with shouts all you really end up doing is spamming and it gets BO-RING. With a monk you have to maintain energy and health it's very entertaining and a challenge.

Paragons make me yawn. It's Guild Wars' version of a "bard" which no one ever really likes xD.

I'm surprised no one has suggested Ranger (or I was too lazy to read? EDIT: yes I was one person suggested it). Clearly the best class in Guild wars. I once asked myself what CAN'T a ranger do... I was stumped. (this statement may or may not be a little biased ^_^ )

Expertise is awesome and so are bows. If you're lookin to have a good time a Ranger is for you :D.

I'd say Ranger or Mesmer, since dervish rely WAY too much on enchantments and bore me, paragons are bards which are a novelty, and ritualists get no love (lolz neither do assassins xD).

That's just one way to look at it though xD.

RE: New Profession

the posts helped, but you guys named pretty much every profession, lol. If you could each just give a list of the five most fun professions (because i have a warrior an ele and i like to have 1 pvp spot) out of prophecies, factions and nightfall that would be great.

My personal favorite is a ranger. I started as a ranger necro and that works quite well if you use curse magic.

Ranger is good, you can also try mesmer/necro, use curses and such in combination of fast casting to cause lots of health degen ;]

RE: New Profession

it really depends on how you want to play. you can make more mistakes as a dervish in my opinion because they have better heals, and sins are for patient people who understand they arent tanks and hang back to wait for an opportunity to spike something down

Don't listen to the doubters, Dervish is a fun and challenging character. Prior to NF Ranger was my favorite, but the diversity of the Dervish makes me keep coming back.

RE: New Profession

make a monk make a monk make a monk :D

I've neevr made a pve monk in since i've bought the game just started like 1 month ago, my monk is my favorite char, I always use him in pve whenever I can, now I help guildies to do mission just to have an excuse to play my monk lol ^^

if you are bored of bashing at people and find it repetitive try a monk, it's so different then everything, and they have some of the ebst armor ingame ^^

Stopped playing Guildwars when Anet ruined the two thing enjoyable in this game: pvp and economy.

RE: New Profession

Monk - I hadn't played mine in ages, took her into Urgoz last weekend, the other Monk was a serious pro and I knew my lack of practise was going to be OK. It was soooo much fun! I had forgotten how exciting being a quick fire spam heal Monk is, it gets really manic, 2 monks in a team of 12 it really got my adrenaline going focusing on all those health bars, prioritising your heals, you have to think and act fast in that kind of scenario, really enjoyed it.

Don't forget a smiting Monk can do some serious damage too and of course theres all those farming builds you can try too.

Monks are always in demand , as are Necros another fave class, Rits may not be as in demand but they can do some awesome damage with or without spirits (echo channeling skills and do as much output as an SF Ele) and another awesome thing about Rits - Ancient Armor! Be your very own mummy, lol its just sooo cool.

RE: New Profession

My favorite 2 characters to play are my Necro and Monk. A monk is always needed and will never have a hard time finding a party. A necro is arguably the most versitile character in the game and any party can find a good use for one.

Now that that is said
Rangers are great if you want to farm they can farm most high level areas (UW, FoW, DoA, Urgoz's Warren) but for me their versitility in non-specialized grp usually focuses on interupting. So good character fun to play but not MY favorite

Mesmer one of the hardest characters to play correctly. Mesmers can really make a good team better if played right. They can change the outcome of any mission/match with the use of interupts, degen, or spell and energy denial. Tha said it takes a lot of practice and you will find it hard to get into PvE groups, especially for the high level stuff. They are the masters of PvP though. For soloing they are very limited and would definatly not be the character of choice to farm with (although it is possible)

As for the sub classes (sin's, Rts, Paragons, and dervished) they are all fun to play but most of the time you will find people calling you a noob if youare playing one (which is really BS in my opinion). I have an assasin and a paragon and enjoy playing them both but find in general i always fall back to my necro and monk.

Hope this helped you out a little.

Another subject, have you found your new class, yet? I can tell by your previous characters you either like to solo, farm or enjoy the comfort of doing something that has already been tested. I say this because of the Wa/Mo and E/Me. Based on this assumption, trying any new class will be interesting.

To me Rangers & Necros are versatile characters. They can do alot of different things. And this might be stretch, but I would say both are usually sought after in both PvP and PvE. Like it was mentioned earlier, raising minions and flesh golems are always fun. And laying traps and having a pet companion and can also be cool too.

In regards to Mesmers, I can see you already experimented with this class as a secondary. If you have any questions how a primary might work out for you, let me know.

Have fun,
M.M.
