| Pets on outposts: What are they good for? |

IMHO, they just added lag and loss of framerate in the cities.
How hard is to implement more storage options instead of this?
Sorry if Im being too harsh, but really cant find why ANet implemented that option. Now, everytime I get into a new outpost I need to wait for the textures to load.
Do I need I better CPU? surely, a gaming PC can never get powerful enough. but..

Personally, I haven't noticed any extra lag introduced by minipets in towns. It probably doesn't even equal one full character. That's why they maxed it at 20. And what does this have to do with storage? Having your minipet out doesn't save you any storage space. Personally, I like it, towns are like the only place to actually show off your minis. I think you should be able to show your weapons in towns too, that would be awesome.

i agree with brynden, minpets in towns do not make more lag and i would also rather prefer to show weapons, for the pure reason to just show off =/
although i would rather have also wanted a neat storage upgrade instead of the silly minipet one :( ah well, maybe in the future^^

Grrrrrrrr.....
Was gonna come in and post exactly that!
I think that lag is due to the players machine, I never get lag in town since I upgraded. I like seeing the pets out and I'd like more storage.
I can guarantee tho that if ANet didn't add these little things people would be complaining they didn't get their moneys worth.
Isn't it nice that the Dev team take time out not just to make new cash generators like whole new chapters and events to pull people in but they also make little changes that only the Vets (people who've had birthdays or farmed long enough to buy pets) can enjoy?
I don't see you getting that in many other pay-once games...you have to buy all the expansions or make mods yourself and then every time you load a zone or new map you have to download everyone elses mod or skin so you can see it. Screw that...give me mini-pets any day!

Um, well the mini pet idea i think contridict why the level was capped at 20, so stupid kids wont go "OMG u ----- (you get the idea) n00b! ur such a stupid n00b, im pwn ur (again here too)".
People at the most random places go "Lets all take out our Kuunavangs! WAIT, your so nooby you dont HAVE ONE!! roflmaocopt..." You get the idea. With the weapons in town itd be like, "See my perfect elemental sword and fellblade! u stupid noobs cant get this cause your still" and blah-blah on how were so noobish and that crap. Sorry if thats long, but the mini pet thing contridicts the "stop the stupid name calling" thing, and with the weapons in town, it would be like, the ultimate discouragement if your insulted IN towns and OUT of towns (with a party in a mission or something).

what ----->I<----- want is PKing in towns :D but I'd probably be the one killed =P and it would kinda mess the game up but it's fun showing what you have to other people and what you've worked for ingame

Ive actually noticed slight lag in larger towns where more ppl show off their mini pets, and my comps is pretty much even designed for gaming...if i see lag and i have 2.33 GHz in 2 chips..then what isnt gonna lag?? Sometimes it gets bad in ascalon and LA i have to wait 1 or 2 mins for the comp to stop locking up for 2 sec at a time each 3 sec till the map finally loads, why does this have to happen???

Processing power really doesn't have much to do with lag. It's mostly about bandwith..I've got dual Gigabit Ethernet cards on my laptop (one internal and on PC card) and I don't have much of a problem with lag. If you're running a 10/100 network card, you'll have lag issues, especially if you have any applications in the background running that require network usage.
Frames Per Second can cause choppiness, and yes, that can be an issue with pets in towns because you have to render more objects in an area...but if you're getting less than 20FPS in an instanced area with little to no people all ready, then your video card is already taxed.
Also, you said that you're using 2 chips. I'm assuming that you're either using a dual core processor, or two individual processors. If this is the case, GW is still going to default to Core0 which is what your operating system runs on. Try going to the Task Manager, right clicking on GW.exe and set the affinity to 1. This may help a little bit with performance as you're now load balancing processes, but it won't help with a rendering problem.

Processing power makes a big difference in places like Kaigen Center (or whatever that capital town is called).
I generally agree with OP and wish there were an option to turn them off for both processing/bandwidth and annoyance reasons.

I really doubt it unless you're running directly on a backbone! The UK ADSL system can manage 8mb/s (8 megebits)...that's 800k, 200k less then 1 Mb (1 megebyte). I run fine on a 2mb/s ADSL and a T100 network.
My internet connection barely registers as network traffic and I can happily play GW while streaming a movie to another machine on the LAN. Where it does get snarled up is if someone is accessing my web or ftp server and taking up my ADSL bandwidth. Likewise if you've got somthing like BitTorrent or Limewire running you'll get lag.
When you talk about dual processors I assume you mean a dual core Pentium? A 2.2Ghz is fine for GW, I have an 3500+ AMD64 (2.2Ghz) and a Gig of RAM and I play with zero lag issues.
The problem is most likely your graphics card go...
Right click desktop - Properties - Settings Tab - Advanced Button - Adapter Tab
and tell us what the Adapter Type (Graphics card) is.

don't notice any differences sorry :) .
thinking about it it would be more GPU then network because all the servers got to say to your client is theres a minipet of this type at this object space, cpu and gpu does the rest, its just like having more players in the area , unless minipets have a magical lag effect.

I like this new "feature" of mini pets in towns and outposts. It adds to the community in game, might open up some conversations between players and they are kind of cute running after their owners, trying to keep up. ;)
As for any eventual lag; sorry, I haven't noticed any difference even though I'm on a computer which really could use some more coal in it ;)
