| New info about GW from the PC Gamer...CONFIRMED |
|
|
|
OK, people aren't allowed to post scanned images of the article, but Liquid Steel has posted this sum-up on Guru. Gaile has responded in the thread and HAS NOT DENIED this information. However, I would still take this with a HUGE grain of salt for now...
EDIT: Gaile has now confirmed GW2, as well as the details on GW:EN.
EDIT 2: There is an official thread on Guru here which features all of this info, as well as developer responses as they become available.
| QUOTE | Summary:
They are abandoning the Campaign format because it required them to reinvent GW completely for every chapter, and it began to feel 'bloated' to them. The Expansion, and increased timeframe, allow them to do what they want to with the game, without worrying about new professions, or pre-lvl20 content
BETA for GW2 in 2008
eye of the north
HOLIDAY 2007 RELEASE

"extend character development beyond level 20" ~James Phinney~
EOTN will supposedly link GW1 and 2
underground complex of tunnels through all three 'continents' present thus far is revealed.
Three acts:
Act1 takes you through 18 underground dungeons to help the dwarves defend against 'the fiery Destroyer', eventually taking you to the Asura and Norns (races)
Act2 has three story arcs ranging from exploring the Norns, to the Charr homeland, to an Asura resistance of the Destroyer
Act3 pits you against the Great Destroyer
Far shiverpeaks are Norn Lands, Charr homeland is north of ascalon, Asurans are near Maguuma, Tyrian catacombs stretch across the entire continent presumably

Guild Wars 2 summary in progress, hold tight! |
I will update this post as more information (and confirmation/denial) becomes available.
EDIT: Here is his sum-up on the GW2 part:
| QUOTE |
Guild Wars 2 Summary
Hundreds of years later, in Tyria... sounds more of a race-reliant struggle.
Predominately open worlds, with Instancing as a secondary feature in some areas (not positive on the interpretation). Hundreds of people in the same area, and choices that the population as a whole change the quest structure. PCG gave an example of choosing to rally against a dragon or not. Those that help, gain loot and xp. If the dragon isnt driven away, another 'quest' may trigger, leaving more options for the population. Very cool idea IMO.
I'll just take the level cap stuff directly - "Events will also offer a way for players of different levels to keep interacting in the persistent world - which is crucial, since right now, ArenaNet is planning a very high [100-plus], or possibly no level cap"
Sidekicks simlar to CoH, allowing powers to seep from a high level character to a friendly lower level char.
'Click to move' will be abandonned in favor of a more freedom-rich control scheme, including 'jumping, swimming, and sliding'
destroyable environments?
no real world limitations to servers. you pick a 'world', but can switch between the realms.
World vs World combat sounds to be a massive scale capture the flag (AB style?) with no minimum or maximum party size. Big-ass raids that can supposedly take place for weeks on end. At the end, the 'world' will be reset, and it will start again it seems.
GvG will still be present, as a more balanced form where everyone is on a level playing field.
Companions: NPC like heros can join you (like a pet it sounds), and dont count towards your party. Not using this feature lets you be mroe powerful.
I think I read somewhere in here that it will be mission-based, but I didn't see it in my quick second-look.
As of now, there will be no monthly fees, and no 'campaigns'... mini-expansions, and expansions are hinted at.
If I think of something else, I will add it... or someone else can :P |
EDIT: Here is more from a guy on GWO who talked to a guy who already has his Azura (and was able to provide proof)
| QUOTE | I met him in Kamadan American Dis 2 with that oh so diablocal Asura. I got a TS chat with him, and I have a A tape of the Chat.
Also, some stuff that wasn't apparent from the chat at first GW2 and GW:EN will all happen. Some Stuff happened before I got the recording going is
A)-GW:EN is all level 20 content, will involve the great destroyer. Search on guildwiki to see the existent info on him[the great destroyer].
http://files.filefront.com/yowav/;69.../fileinfo.html
Also, I sucked a bit with my recording skills, theres a 1 minute gap at the end when I forgot to turn it off. Its when the person goes "this is so confusing WTF?? "
Hes also scanning the article. However, I swore on my life I won't reveal it it was strictly In guild(but I got a peak of it )
heres what I got
Page 1-I like pictures
Page-2 No more Guild wars Chapter 4, hello GW:Eye of the North, a expansion pack, followed by GW2
Page 3-Designers find some aspect fundementally flawed...but 6 months can fix it, kept changing fundemental, yet flawed ideas till a another chapter won't cut it, a full fledged sequel can
Page 4-explanation on stuff you guys already no about, plus in the 2 year gap between now and GW2m expect a continuous stream of free content, as well as GW:EN
Page-5 focuse on GW:EN-40 new armor 100 new skills 150 new PVE only skills
10 Heros(not all Human) It introduces asura, and gets deep into charr culture, which will bridge to GW2. Introduces monuments, a way of honouring your GW1 Chars in GW2, Storyling focusing on DwarvesVGreat Destroyer, a existing
ominous presense
Page 6-Races! Asura=Techonlogical Race that Live Underground. Charr=We all know. Slyvari-natury race of spirits. Naiive, look like fairys Norns-Shapeshifting race of half giants, look like bulky humans
Also, GW:EN goes into the catacombs
Page 7-You cannot carry over stuff, but can via the hall of momuments, allowing you to display titles of and see the weapons and use minis of your chars from good old GW1
Page 8-GW2 Info here, set several hundred years after orignal GW, but same style, no sci-fiMission Based AND solo friendly, but will also use groups, completely open enviroment, but STILL FREE. Very Interactive Gameworld, such as bandit raids (of AI), no spawn camping or the like
Page 9-Some Bad news....there is apperently no level cap....or a very high one...jumping, swimming and slidding are movement options..., no servers, instead, its gloval. PVP sounds disappointing, introducing "world Battles", a massive game similar to capture the flag
Page 10-But some Hope for Pvp, all pvping Must be done with non-level upable role playing characters, at a mid-level Players Also get a "companion" or pet which takes no place in the party window. Players that choose not to will have a slightly buffed character
Page 11-A entire page dedicated on the LACK of a monthly fee
Page 12-Final Page-sort of a heartwarming ender |

And here is an official addition from Gaile as well:
| QUOTE | I just chatted with Mike O'Brien, Jeff Strain, and Isaiah Cartwright on the question of PvP. Here is what they said:
There will be two types of PvP in Guild Wars 2:
World PvP will allow you to play characters of any level, using the skills that you have in your possession at that particular time.
Structured PvP (similar to today's GvG) will allow you to enter the game at maximum level with all skills. Yes, that's UAX.
Roleplaying Characters will gain the opportunity to acquire higher levels. I believe that the magazine refers to a cap of 100 or more. This is an opportunity that players have been requesting over the last couple of years. I know that personally, I like the idea a lot. |
And also, a little later...
| QUOTE | | One key thing I want to make sure that you note: There are no monthly fees for Guild Wars 2. The question has arisen before every campaign, and with the announcement of an entirely new game, surely it will be on your mind. But again, no monthly fees for Guild Wars 2. |

I just don't like the leveling idea. I think there would be many more shouts of "Noobs!" in towns and stuff. I say just stick to the hard mode or w/e.

Yeah, i can see that happening aswell.
Tbh i dont like that idea at all, GW is totally going WoW and i can imagine that alot of people wont have the time to level up like that. GW once used to be the game i loved because of it not being like the other MMORPG's i have tried, i liked GW for how it was, and now its becoming the game i dislike, WoW.

Some of this news sounds cool but I must say, I'm not looking forward to it. Right now GW2 sounds a lot like WoW which is why i will not be buying it. As it stand I will slowly start rapping up my guildwars play and moving on to other things. (such as life which i have been pushing aside...)

Personally, I'll reserve judgement until I try it myself.
Remember that we're still a year (at least) away from the BETA. It is also possible that, while some of this stuff sounds like WoW features, they may have re-tooled them into an altogether different features, but just make a quick reference to things people already understand, whether or not they truly reflect what the final product will be.
I've seen this happen with some of my professional software, where they announce something that sounds like a rip-off of another program, but they really re-invented it and made it much better. At least, that's my optimistic view. ^ ^
What I REALLY wanna know is if GW2 will be using a new rendering engine that utilizes more high-end graphics stuff, like HDRI, normal mapping, etc. I'm all about making the experience "more immersive."

This sounds kinda cool, although it would be disappointing to have restart a whole new game. Better to start a game that you've trusted than a whole 'nother game.

Gaile has stated GW1 characters will not carry over, but there will be some sort of hall of monuments where your achievements (titles) can be viewed.

I dont get whats so sucky about it Some minis Titles are pretty much the only hard things to get except a few high end weapons and fow armor.
Gw2 sounds cool to me tho Even if its not much like original gw with lvl 100 and stuff it still sounds like a fun game

Well, if a lot of this is true, I won't be buying it. Some of it seems too much like WoW...I like towns and explorable areas, I like a level 20 level cap...it seems to be changing some of the fundamental basics of GW, what makes GW differentn to all the other games out there. Though I think I'm the only one who doesn't want playable races ^^
But I really don't want to have to leave my beloved ellie behind :(
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons...for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup.

technically, you will still have the armor sets and Razah on your GW1 account unless they DO shut down the GW1 servers when GW2 comes out

*sigh* i'm really torn between this
GW1
- many of us spent a long time farming stuff for sets of 15k armor, green items and getting titles
- we all probably spent time during in-game holiday to get masks
- most of us spent time thinking off good new builds to use
GW2
- new functions and updates
- MMORPG system so it'll be more interactive
- cool new World PvP
Since Anet will stop making new additions to GW1 after GW:EotN, it seems kinda pointless to keep farming for stuff unless you're into making new chars and running the game over and over and if you like PvP
Can someone think of some stuff that can help :P

I don't like how supposedly everyone will have all PvP skills unlocked... this encourages people to not try out lesser builds...
