We recently discussed "Smuggling" in the forums. I was just curious how this works and what other plans are there for us Pirate types...

Ever since I helped out the smugglers in Tawar Galan I have 500 faction with the black market traders. For a while they were my biggest allies. I don't exactly where or how it helps me, but I know I got a quest in Khal where I have been asked to make a deal with the weapon trader to supply some weapons somewhere. I don't think I saw that quest before I joined in with the smugglers. And I hope/assume I will find similar shady characters in other cities as well.

The one time I did it, it was actually part of a diplomacy quest line in Tawar Galan. It was a quest where you could either take the items to the authorities, or deliver them to the real smugglers. In the process, you had to make sure you avoided the contraband sniffing tigers.
Not sure if there are any other chances to smuggle, but if there were I might be persuaded to participate...for the right price. ;)

Being the upstanding citizen that she is, Bottle did the opposite. She turned those no-good thieving smugglers (who didn't trust her anyway) in to the proper authorities.
So, she's got -500 faction with the Black Market people now.
I'm not sure what this faction is, but there are Quests with a Faction prerequisite, so it's quite likely it is as Phe said.
Also, I really suspect there is some game-mechanics way that trade can be done between the factions on the PVP servers.
In EQ-II there was an institutionalized black market exchange where you could put up your stuff for sale to the other side, same way as the regular broker. The commission he got was a lot bigger. 40% as opposed to 10% as I recall. Something like that is bound to be there or implemented soon. This Black Market Faction sounds like it might be that. It does make me wonder what other means exist to make changes to that faction.

Yes, I have been looking for the "Black Market" here like the one in the bay of EQ2 (in the bay if you were in Lucan) I have been exploring black market via the mail, I haven't found any of the-goodie two shoes- trustworthy enough to send money too so they can buy what I have needed but I did find several that would check their Market for me... I may just make up a good guy for this purpose, I can buy from one market and place up for auction on the other; I have noticed some resources are more prevalent on the good side as opposed to the dark and visa versa... I haven’t explored the diplomacy feature enough to get very far in it... Question do you have the option to keep the goods for yourself? Not turning it in to either faction? Hmm now that could be fun.

On a slightly related note, I started a Mordebi alt and I am going through the diplomacy story. I really love the diplomacy stories! This time it started off with me interrogating 4 captured Khasavari that were nosing around Khal a bit too much. As it turns out they are sort of hired by the Khal Ports Authority. The ports authority seems to be a corrupt bunch that stops at nothing to make a bigger profit. I am sure I will make it quite far with them :)

I would love spending more time ina good story arc.. but there is just so much to do... which is a good thing... I also want to craft but since this is my social outlet and the game is set up to give you bonus' in groups while crafting, diplomacy and the like I wanted to wait till I found a crew...
