You double click on one to select it and the you click on a piece of armor (on which you wanna add, be careful you can only put 1 rune per piece of armor). The effect of it should take place normally.

That means that when you apply it to your piece of armor, you will lose 35 health while you have that piece of armor equipped but you will also gain the attribute that comes with losing that health, which is usually a good attribute. Make sure the rune is meant for your proffession though, because theres runes for every profession in the game and you cant use a rune on yourself thats meant for a different profession than your primary profession.

I don't know if this has yet been properly, or at least clearly, explained.
First off, welcome to Gameamp. Secondly, this site is an awesome source if you didn't know about it yet: Guildwiki.
Here is the guildwiki page on runes: Runes.
There are three different classifications for runes, most of which do the same thing in general, boosting a specified attribute by a certain amount. Minor runes will boost their specified attribute by 1, major by 2, and superior by 3. However, major and superior runes come at a price. Using a major rune will cost you 35 health when you are wearing a piece of armor with a major rune on it, and a superior rune will cost you 75 health. So it's all a balance of how much health you are willing to lose over how good you want a specific attribute to be. You cannot use runes that are not for your primary class, so a W/Mo can't raise any of his monk attributes over 12, whereas you can get your warrior attributes up to 16. As has been explained, to apply a rune, you simply double click on it, and then click on a piece of armor you want it applied to. A window will pop up asking if you want to upgrade that piece of armor, and you must click yes. If you need more info, check out the link for guildwiki.
Edit: Forgot, there are also other kinds of runes that do different things than boost an attribute. Runes of Vigor/Vitae/Attunement boost either your health or energy. Vigor runes come in the same three classifications, each one giving you more health with no penalty. Vitae and Attunement only have one classification. Absorption runes for warriors decrease the physical damage taken by 1,2, or 3 depending on minor, major, or superior. Then there are also runes that will reduce the duration of two conditions on you by 20%.
