I have been playing guild wars for a long time, but I am crapy when it comes to money. I only have the first game. I need lots of help. Otherwise I am thinking of giving up the game. I am in desparate need. I only have 271 gold.[/I]

Best way to get money is to farm or sell gold weapons in some town or outpost. Also depends on where your character has gotten to. I farm the Gates of Kryta mission with my Elle and can make any where from 5 to 10k in gold and selling stuff at the merchant in less than an hour. It is kind of mundane but if you want the better armor or want to get weapons from the crafter than you will need to do some kind of gold money making like farming.
Just go out and kill stuff and then you will get gold drops or some other item you can sell to merchant. You need to be a little more specific on what you have available to actually be told what you need to do to make money.
Please do not sit in a town and beg for money unless you want to get a tongue lashing from everyone in town. hope this helps Scott2310

Cmon, even a trained monkey can earn a few K at this game without even putting up much effort. All this is is another type of begging, except he/she isnt sitting around in a town.

The best way to have money is to learn to be a little more stingy than you have been so far. If you have been playing for any length of time at all and only have 271 gold then that means you have spent all but 271 of the gold you have earned along the way.
I have heard a lot of stories about people that buy an armor upgrade every single time they see one available. Instead of doing that just upgrade once or twice. (most of the time I don't buy armor for a character until I can buy max armor) While you are waiting collector armor does fine. Also collector items are jsut as effective as the good stuff untill you get later into the game and by that point you will have a lot more than 271 gold.
There is no get rich quick scheme in this game (unless you get real lucky) but you can guarantee yourself that you will never have money if you spend everything as soon s you get it.

One golden tip, be greedy in a good way!!
I have farmed 2x in my life and I've managed to gather so far 70k blank, without consedering 125k spend on Skill caps, armors, selling golden items,...
I watch and wager my money carefully. Don't buy it when it's not that needy.

Clear areas.
Doing the Carto title in Prophecies has made me loads even with a full hench team. Sometimes you have to fight off a ton of stuff to get where you're going and everything drops items and gold.
ToPK
B/P teams will net you Greens and the odd ecto, they are fast and efficient. Go 5 man once you get good and make more.
Power Trade
Buy low & sell high, trade the items you get dropped. The better you get the more gold you will make from this.
Green Farming
There are many bosses in Tyria which can be farmed solo, dual or in small teams. Get in on that and sell the greens. Dragos Flatbow stills sells for a few K and the ToPK greens have risen in value since Hero's came along.
Farm
Find a build for whichever class you have and farm Minos, Trolls, Avicara, Imps, Ettins, Worms, Hydras and many more.
Speculate to accumulate
Sometimes you need to spend some cash to get to a farming area. 1k to get into FoW is nothing if you come out with half a dozen shards. Even better go in an 8 man team and only pay 125 or even nothing if someone wants armour and is willing to pay for the help.

oh lol, well for yaks bend 271 aint half bad, just go outside with a warrior heal sig with alot of tact and ripost and kill the junk.

A few things for getting money in proph:
- minotaur farming: easy done and quiet easy money. enter the mission in elona and farm the minotaurs at the beginning. You can pretty use any solo build for that
- Troll farming; also quiet easy and warrs; rits;eles; and even 55hp mes and 55hp monks still can do it.
- Tombs; just get a B/P team (5 ranger; 2 necros;1 monk). Gives you a approx of 5 k a run and is done in an hour (with a good team) If you are the lucky one to get eeg a victos axe you can sell it for 20k at least nowadays (gosh where are the times of 100k + xx ectos)
- Just kill charrs in the piken area. Clearing the area gives approx 2-3k
- Hydra farming. Done with Warrior elemantalist and necro. clearing north of augury gives approx 5k + several gold items
Just to name a few examples ^^
EDIT:
did i name running? 500gp a person a mission area in the dessert is affordable to most people. get 7 people = 7*500 = 3.5 k...

I started Out Poor Like you when i first played. I found out about farming when i for the first time left pre-searing, guess what farming build i heard about? THE FAMOUS 55 MONK! It was very popular back than, i loved it. I tried to get what i could becausse the runes for the monks were quite expensive, i was low on gold, and i didnt know how to get it. What i did was go Farm some more, this time in kryta farming ettins, and thank god, a supperior rune of absorbtion dropped! guess how much it was worth back than? 60k! i sold it for 60k! i was the happiest little asian in the world! i went and bought al the stuff i needed to become a 55 monk. After that i used my 55 monk to FARM even MORE and MORE. Anyways, this story is long. but the moral of this story is, just find something to farm, use the profits to spend on farming until you are satisfied. To This day, i never regreted selling that rune of absorbtion xD, i wouldnt have what i have now.

What I did to start off is pick up EVERYTHING you get and ID them if they're colored of if theyre white sell them to the merchant. I got a good 1k to start off with because of it. I then went on to buying necessities after that and going through the game. Then when I got to beacons I had gotten 5k and spent 2k on a run to droks. I then went to droks got armor and farmed with the max armor there until i got more money(troll farming ftw) to get my first set of 15k. Ive been doing the same thing for all 3 campaigns really. I just play along picking up everything and selling them to a merchant. Then if i pass an easy farming spot(vermin in senji's corner) I farm them and get money then go along with the campaign again. Ive gotten over 600k doing that. It takes time, that's all. Patience is KEY.

I didn't have riposte at yaks bend. For real, tips, be stingy, until you have the skills to farm higher level places. Other than that, I had the same problem you did, no money early on. Unless you want to keep killing charr for money, play the game, level up, and get skills. That is what was nice about propecies, you got skills as rewards for quests.

you say you have been playing for a long time, but your only at yaks bend? Your barely 1/4 of the way thru the game. You wont have very many skills to do any type of ral farming. So the only thing you can do right now is just fight stuff. Dont take a full party of henches with you. try and get by with a healer and 2 other classes. that makes a party of 4/6 which can still kill stuff outside yaks bend. This way you get more drops and more share of the gold you pick up.

Beat the game first. Just focus on beating the missions and side quests if u need too. Start farming later, its more important to have all the missions done or at least up to THK. Once thats done find the cheapest farming build are can find and repeat it as much as possible. Slowly you will get more and more money which can allow you to have more famring builds and it will allow for more source of money to come on. Basically, start slow.

You're only at Yaks Bend!?! Why are you worried about money already? Everything you need for a sub lvl 15 char will be dropped by the Stone Summit. The critters you fight are still only around lvl 10 so you really don't need max armour or max weapons.
Patience! Pick up everything and sell the lot to the Merchant. I should think you'd make a couple of K just doing the missions around Yaks.

some constructive critisisme, "you've been playing for a long time" and only got to Yak's Bend?. You still have a long way to go yet. Do the primary missions (look them up on guildwiki) just find a group to tag along with. This will lvl you quick and get you around the map. If you have the time re-do missions and reduce the number of henches just so you can kill group by group in the mission, less henchies means more drops for you and its busy.(Fort ranik i still do with a lvl20 then trade charr hides at collector for crafting material). some quests give money as well take it mo money mo money i say.
But most importantly just keep playing you dont need the money to have fun just other poeple to play with, they are the real price in the game

Farming stinks, the most fun I have farming is chest runs on Killroy Stoneskin quest (average 15 purple's a run) and Farming in groups, because solo gets very repetitive, very fast, you are no where near being able to farm effectively at yak's bend, however, when you do start to farm, pick unusual things that aren't in every single thread on the internet, for instance I have farmed Fen Trolls (hard to get to, but i averaged 4 golds a run), Forest Minotaurs (averaged a white or black dye once every 4 runs). UW is the most profitable, but very boring solo. I've gone through so many farming builds, and have found them all pretty boring, u want quick money, then get nightfall and open all the treasure chests.

Raly the best way to go is to arm the collectabl drops needed for new armor sets till you get the desert collectors set. Not buying multiple sets of armor as you progress through the game will save you a lot.
After you have the desert armor collectors set you can relax as it is max although with no special bonus. You should at this point have 30 to 45k saved.
From there on you can cap skills to put together a farm build for the remaining parts of the game.
The remaining parts of the 15k set will be fairly easy to make the cash for just completing the game.
Also don't bother buying weapons. Just take whatever drops for you or go collectors for them as well.
infact the cheepest way to get the equivelant of a max gold is a max collectors weapon with salvaged mods from the junk you find on the way.
Another hint if you have the materials you need don't salvage collectable drops unless you are short of room just sel to the merchant their salvage value is often less than the sale value.
Once in the souther shiverpeaks neaver sell collectable to a merchant eaither sell to a player or exchange at a collector then sell the item to players or merchants.
The cllectables are 8g each there but the item is 125g usualy for 5 collectables the item if a weapon is worth 4 to 5k to a player as the weapon crafters charge 5k bt you will probably be better smerching the item rather than wasting time trying to sell to a player.
If you do want to sell a max collectors reward to a player the best places to sell are Ascalon City, Shing Jea Moanastryand Kmdan Jewel of Istan.

the best thing to do as everyone said is to get through the game and level up/get better gear and when you think you're ready for farming start out in easier places like Gates of Kryta then progress to UW and take a peek at good farming guides for your profession
