| Glitched... A smite dropped 3 Ectos but only showed 2??? |
|
|
|
Yesterday night america had favor right?
Well i was complaining in ToA that i did 13 runs in UW and no ectos dropped.
SO, i was in my 14th run. Killed a smite, it dropped Three Globs of ectoplasms. It showed only two Ectos.
I check my inventory, i had only 2 ectos. So i moved on, killing all smites and when i checked the area again there was an ecto Lying around.
What is this glitch? Was anet watching me because i did 13 runs of UW and i started complaining??

I agrooed 5 smites. Ran back. So i cast metoer shower following with Bed of coals etc. Then this one smite ran away. I waited for my metoer shower to recharge. THen kill that one smite.
It dropped 3 ectos. It showed in the screen.

I highly highly highly doubt it because if they were to watch people then they would have a really big staff and it would take tons of manpower. It's just a game and games screw up with bugs and glitches. No biggy really.
quit gw for good. end of story.

I would imagine Anet has the ability to watch what you are doing, and if they can't watch while it is happening, I know they can check afterwords what you were doing at all times, that's how they catch bots.

It is Prohibited by law for a developer to watch you unless reasonable suspicion was due. i.e. to watch a hacker...
I've seen a smite drop 3 ectos, only showing 2, not mine, a friend. it is just a Structure Glitch, like a boss with the wrong name. i just saw a screenshot of a boss that said lvl 5 black bear. but looked and acted and used skills of the boss. there are so many variables with loading something. it just depends
EDIT: The staff can check what zones you have been to, ever but the chances are that they will only check the last 6 hrs or 24hrs max. They catch bots by checking the zone, then they spawn there with their character, or as a "ghost" no one can see them, they can take anyone away.
The typical staff member cant spawn items where he/she wants

Probably something to do with the Data Protection Act 1997, although I dunno really what they can do. What I'd be pretty certain of though, is that drops are random, and you got lucky, so gratz on that. I doubt very much they would ever watch anyone unless they suspected botting etc, and even less that they could effect your drops.

You'll find that every single GW player agrees to the terms and conditions of the EULA when activating Guildwars, it does not just affect USA, it affects all of us that have activated the game and have agreed to play by those rules.

1. dont know which law
2. server owners can check up on server users, but can't watch and track you, someone could hack your comp if they were messed up like that, so by law they cant.
EDIT: thank you THE SISTER, i appreciate that

even tho i might consent to eula when playing the game there is nothing they can do to punish me if i dont follow it, same thing with the data protection act isnt it?
only the laws of the country the server is staioned in applyes for the server owner... (which is why american federal agents and companys cant do shit to stop thepiratebay (yay))
lemme see if i get this straight... if the serverowner can monitor and track my moves in game that means he can hack my pc? pls.... im pretty sure any 14 yr old can hack my pc (and yours) if he wanted to... bottom line being if a hacker wants to enter your pc, your onyl protection is to stay offline.
from what i understand a serverowner can track you by seeing in his database when everytime you do specific stuff(ie switching areas) why does this mean its easyer for him to hack my pc?

If you botfarm in GW, you will get banned. Where you live has nothing to do with it. Same with any other EULA violation. You have a GW account, and if you are caught doing something which breaks that End-User-Lisence-Agreement they will end that user's lisence, simple as that. There is no looking at where they're from, it's a simple case of you signed on the dotted line to create your own virtual property on their server, with their rules.
I think you are right to an extent, that each country does have it's own laws, and some things are legal in some areas, but not in others. As for the server issue, they own the servers and can do what they want with them really I should imagine. It's all very complicated when it comes to laws over the internet, I don't think the line is very clear.
But there is a difference between being legally prohibited from doing something and not doing it, and being able to do it by law and doing it because you can, even though it's morally wrong. That's important in my opinion.

basically, by accepting the eula anet can do anything they like, doesnt matter which country your in as it is broad enough to apply to all foreign laws. you are using a program written, provided, and usage supllied by anet, i.e. their property completley, all your 29 dollars/euros/pounds have bought is a the right to play it as long as anet perceive you are doing wrong. look in the eula and there'll be a clause saying anet reserve the right to ban/with-hold service for pretty much anything they dont like.
which means, anet can see what your doing as you do it ingame, there is nothing illegal about that as its their software/hardware you are on, what they cant do is look at your physical pc and data, unless they've installed some sort of spyware and you've accepted its use by accepting the eula withou reading it properly.

The data protection act for the uk applies to all? or only the UK, if only legislating on the internet was so easy.
The strongest legal document in my limited knowledge would be the eula agreement and even it in rare cases can be challenged.
At the end of the day broad statements like "its against the law" should be avoided especially for an internationally provided service. Essentially ANET is free to do with their service as they please, just like in any other online service. We dont own the game the account or anything on it - read the eula :) .
However the likelihood of them spying on players seems to me to be rather low, using my judgement. I have no evidence but surely its a costly waste of time from a business perspective. However in the past ANET have said they use automatic tracking - something when altered a while back caused a few false positives and the community to cried foul over bannings. Basically it watches for certain events and then flags a player - what happens after that is anyones guess.
So best solution - if you had 3 ectos drop and only receive 2... then go through support - show the screenshot, report it as a bug. Jump through their hoops and see what happens.
I guess you can be happy you were lucky to get 2 ectos and not have 15 runs without any :)).
*edited as I only woke up a little while ago and the coffee is still yet to perk me up so I can type properly :).

1. When you switch areas, its recorded, your IP address is recorded meaning that they can figure out what computer accessed that IP address, and when that happens they can look up the model, and the serial code. then its like walking around in an open field.
2. being banned is the punishment you paid money for the game, they ban you, you have 30-50 dollars down the drain
3. and yea, if you know enough you can certainly hack a comp, but illusion of safety sometimes sells better than actual safety
4. not to mention that if staff does it, they lose their job, pretty much everything is trackable these days, its unavoidable, but GW is very secure in comparison to typical internet. i.e. Internet Explorer
EDIT: roflol, because of me the topic changed entirely

Forget about Anet monitoring people, I know Anet didn't do anything because complaining about the ecto drop rate is no reason for Anet to do anything malicious.
