yeah, same here, i mainly use my ele, and my dervishg is my next best char, but i have a decent mesmer too,
i would go for mesmer, theyre just really fun chars to play. you can kill people without even going near them. a mesmer is everyones worst enemy

there is NO best proffesion. you make the proffesion good.
i know alot of people sating that necro is a bad proffesion but i really really like necro and have really awsome builds with it, so its pwning for me and the best proffesion for ME
just gain exp and you'll have a best proffesion!

First off...
Welcome to GameAmp!
(I'm gonna get that macro'd!)
As said there is no `best` profession only the profession you prefer. I've found that I never really get into playing a new character until I'm lvl 20 and have a few elites under my belt but then they get really fun.
I'm currently going through an Ele phase atm but I hope that'll swing to my Paragon or Rt soon. The thing that helps most is having someone else to play with as I feel that the better the experience at low levels the more you'll want to play the character.
Anyway...try a caster...maybe a Necro since I love those!

i really enjoy playin the Elamentalist profession, you do a ton of damage and can get into a group easily. I also enjoy playing a Mesmer, I love interupting people. But as everyone else has said, there is no "best profession"

I personally prefer the Ele because it's my favorite profession but it's all based on how you play. The way the player plays and the skill level determines what the best profession is for you.

mesmers can beat every proffesion in the game with simple swiching of builds
Caster shutdown, melee shutdown, simple enough
they can be beaten very easily, they can also be very hard to be depending on the intelagince / reflex of the opposing foe (NPC or human)
i would nominate mesmers as one of the dominate characters in the game, but they are one of the harder proffeions to use
Dervishs are hard to take down, as i said depending on the buiild pretty much every proffesion has big weaknesses and those advantages can be used to a great extent
example:
Dervishes hit 3 people at once, IW will hit 3, but then again mesmers and necromancers can use skills that make it so when they or any other melee using class hits they take damage

Speaks the truth, they're so good no one wants to play with them in PvE it's too easy, and no one likes to play against them in PvP they're relentless!

None is the best for all have a weakness and all have advantages. Each can beat the other. The only thing you can do is really say which you like best or in your opinion which you fell is best (which is usually what you like best). I like them all and all can really kick butt if you take the time to learn to play them and what all they can do and can't do.
I'm neither here nor there but everywhere. I am who I am and nothing more but yet I'm nothing less than what I strive to be.

that wrong... any proffesion can beat a mesmer as long as the player is experienced enough... there are a lot of counters vs mesmers but almost no1 takes the time to look for them... most players are owned by mesmers because of the fact that almost all mesmer players are indeed experienced with the proffesion... mesmers are the primary characters

I personally prefer the elementalist/monk class, you can do great damage to others and heal yourself if you get hurt. You don't need to worry about your energy with this character and mending is one of my favorite monk skills.

If there's a best profession, why doesn't the meta revolve around builds with 8 of the same profession?
Think about it.

I kinda think the sarcasm mode was /on in that post. Anyway, monk is a very versatile proffesion, you can farm/heal/own, just about anything! Youll get into party really easy, and everything depends on you, isnt that great? =D

indeed there are no bad professions but personally I find necro /monk and elementalist best
followed by mesmer/assassin
and I hate playing warrior/dervish/ranger and paragon prolly due to lack of experience but I'm working on a ranger and a paragon so ...
but that's personal any profession can be beaten by another I've seen monk/mesmer totally shut down warriors
and I've seen warriors take down 15 hydras in the dessert... so it depends on your build and your intelligence not solely on the profession
NECRO POWER FTW

Mesmers seem to be much better for PvP than PvE, I'm sure many would disagree, I never got my Mesmer past lvl 17 just didnt find it fun enough to play in PvE.
Necro's are great fun and even more fun to play since the change to Soul Reaping, can I get a big woot for Signet of Lost Souls ? :)
There really is no best profession, the best profession is the profession you enjoy playing the most.

the best proffessions are mesmer and assassin
i am not saying the other proffessions suck but just look at the skills that these 2 professions got. these two are the best when it comes to killing specific professions when you make a build, but then the problem is that they are weak against the other proffesions.
but if you are going pve don't make a mesmer, you will probably own everything on your path with awesome hexes but people tend to think the 147 backfire dmg comes frome there awesome cyclone axe (sarcasm) and so they think mesmers suck and because of that you won't get into parties as easily as you would with the other professions.

Mesmers are definetly NOT a good class to start with, they are hard to play and not too popular in pve groups. . .
But since they have fast casting they can deal damage or heal damage faster than an ele or monk :D
You should try getting a mesmer with meteor storm, savanna heat and meteor and cast in that order
HEAPS of damage in an area, and very fast too
Full mesmer builds are usually centered on quickly taking out a single target, thats why they arnt so popular
But when going ele they can definetly do damage faster than a primary ele
In the old Sorrows Furnace days I was in a team with a mesmer that tripple casted meteor storm, boss went down extremely fast
And ele takes too long to cast 3 :D
Anyways a good class to start with is definetly ele, simply choose an elemement and takes heaps of damage spells, stay back and cast!

So to recap the best professions are (in no particular order):
Warrior
Mesmer
Monk
Ele
Necro
Dervish
Paragon
Sin
Rt
Ranger
Hmmmmmmmm.....so what does that mean?
You can pretty much do anything with any char in this game and with the 2ndry classes you can mix and match to make anything. There are solo builds for almost everywhere, you can make a Mesmer Tank or a Monk MM, all you have to do is learn about a little thing called synergy (how the skills work together and how the build works with the arena you're playing in).
There have been more times than I can remember that I've had my ass handed to me by a PvP'er who did something I didn't expect and couldn't counter and likewise I've been outmatched in places like Icedome. The thing with GW tho is that you can learn from these beatings, think a little, change your build and, especially where NPC's are concerned, turn their own skills against them. People still complain about Touch Rangers...I packed Imagined Burden, for BoA Sins...Clumsiness.
Play around with a class, try different things and move away from the cookie cutter builds and the longer you play for the better you'll get and the more you'll enjoy it!

ow i got a question !! i got a question !!
ok here it is: wtf is a cookie-cutter ?
i see it everywhere and i still don't know what it is :S
if it is some lame-ass build then that is prolly why i don't know it, not really familiar with build-names^^(since i always make my own builds...)

Cookie-cutter is a generic term for a set build which a load of people use. You go to wiki, choose your build from the menu then run it without needing the knowledge of how it works.
People who only use CC builds are usually those left complaining the most when ANet changes something (balances) and they can no longer run the build effectively in HA.
I'd suggest that IWAY was the classic CC build and in PvE the 55/SS combo would be it's equivalent.
