Thats right Guild Wars as we know it is over. There will be no more campaigns. According to PC Gamer ANET has officially ,via there publication, announced the end to the Guild Wars campaigns. They will however be making a final actual expansion pack for the game called Eye of the North. But don't fret guys n gals Guild Wars 2 is already underway they will be introducing a ton of new everything, races, classes, areas, skills, the combat system, the movement, everything is being completely redone. Oh and yes you read that right, Races other than human will be playable. The Current list stands as such:
Sylvari: a very innocent race that reminds me of fey peoples.
Asuras: A small race of highly intellgint subterranean people. (They are an exclusive mini pet that can only be gotten from PC Gamer)
Charr: That's right baby the Charr are back and they are playable.
Norn: Big rustic peoples that have the ability to turn into half Norn/half-bear things. (Something about them reminds me of dwarves just not short)
and of course the Humans.
The new game is sounds incredibly promising and takes place something like 400years after the expansion that should release in a few months. Oh and according to the magazine a certain lil girl will be making an appearance in the expansion and she's all growed up now. Ahhh memories.
To get a Asuras mini pet, and the oh so exciting info get out there and pick up a copy of the May 2007 edition of PC Gamer.
Personally i'm really looking forward to the new game and the expansion as I am going to start playing again when it releases and will definately be standing in line waiting for GW2 on launch day.

Don't be too certain of that. It was just a few months ago that they were telling us that they were going to be releasing a new campaign every six months. That has obviously changed and almost as quick as they made the announcement.
I am not sure if I can trust a long term plan from this crew since they didn't even see their last plan through for a full year.
I hope what they are saying is right cause I am looking forward to it, but I'm not holding my breath.
Oh well discussion and speculation about it is fun and all, but who knows what will really happen.

Pick up the magazine I don't think it's really as last minute as you think it is. There are alot of details on this already. In the magazine. Oh and they do say that they will most definately not be changing the business model wich means still no subscription fee even on GW2 and they say it will release either 2008 or '09.

I plan on reading the article because I have just heard pieces of the things that will be implemented in the new game.
That being said, I never said it was a last minute decision I said that they had a long term plan to release a new campaign every six months and said that that plan didn't even last for a year. For that reason and that reason alone I am not sure if I have any faith in something that they say is coming a year or two from now. It seems they could change their mind on this just as easily as they did the 6 month decision.
All I'm saying is that they should be working on the next campaign and it should be coming out real soon if they were to follow through with their original plan. I am not saying that was a good plan to announce but they did announce it.

Yea ok...my bad. lol But yeah they should be working on that but apparently durring the process of getting the ideas togethor for it they decided to scrap it because the 6month system just wasn't working the way they had hoped. Basically there wasn't enough time to do the things they really wanted to do with the game. Due to, in a rather larger part than you would think, The necessity of creating a tutorial deal for every new thing they introduced.
Apparently instead of the next campaign the Expansion wich will actually require that you have one of the previous games to use it will be comming out a few months later than the new campaign would have.

The reason why they're scrapping the plan is because the overall makeup of the game could not support another 2 or more campaigns.
While the overall game is good, there are too many broken aspects of it for Anet to be able to fix without changing the whole landscape.
The use of skills in both pvp and pve is a good example. Whenever a skill is overpowered in PvP, PvE skills have to take a hit. This has resulted in the Mesmer and Paragon not being as effective as they could be in pve.
Another good example is the current trend of skills. In Factions, we saw many skills being duplicated whereas in Nightfall, they didn't really have to do that because there were now 10 professions. But how far can you keep adding skills? Eventually you hit a brick wall and the game is so unbalanced due to the sheer number of skills available.
And lastly, player population per zone has gone down dramatically. Take the total population of Guild Wars, divide it into different districts (european, american, korean, etc.), then divide it yet again between 3 campaigns. You see the issue?
Remember, Prophecies through Nightfall was an experiment to see if a gaming company can maintain an online rpg without charging on a per month basis. Evidently, this has been successful. Proof of this is that Anet won't be releasing anything after Eye of the North (at half price, I might add), so they obviously have the funds to keep the GW franchise alive.
Despite it's success, the actual game is not what they intended. So they plan to scrap the current game and create a new game. Using their current knowledge, and a gamer's wishlist in hand, Anet plans to create a whole new game on the basis of no monthly fees.
Can you imagine the popularity they're looking at? A game that apparently is similar to World of Warcraft, but with no monthly fees? Current GW gamers and financially pressed WoW'rs will all flock to this game. Now you no longer need to spend half your day gaming and the other half working to pay for the game. Just pay once, and you're good for as long as Anet has servers to support it. It would be stupid for Anet to not take this opportunity. Continue the trainwreck, or potentially double your player base with the game that you intended to create.
I am highly anticipating this upcoming game. As soon as Factions came out, it was obvious that this campaign every 6 months wasn't gonna work. What do we want, 4 copies of Searing Heat? No.
So Anet, godspeed. I'll be waiting for GW2.

This could almost be considered Flaming and considering who it is you're talking too that's a bad idea.
Yes this info is about but we've also had numerous posts about the storage upgrades. If it's been repeated don't reply to it and it will drop off the top 5. However if it opens up a new discussion it is a very valid post.

Geez, please take a look at whom you're talking to. Not because he'll ban you from the site, but because it's fairly obvious that he's not out for credit.

Keep in mind, that World of Warcraft is NOT the first game of it's kind.
I said that it might be similar, but there are two reasons for it:
1. Some of the same people that made WoW, are now ArenaNet. So it makes sense that they would use their own talents and ideas.
2. WoW works. Forget about all this "I don't like WoW because I like Guild Wars!" or "It's much too cartoony and you can bring all your skills with you!". Anet has already proven their lifelike graphics. And they've already confirmed that it will stay the same 8 skills max. But there are certain elements of World of Warcraft that really do work and that Guild Wars could benefit off of.

With Gw2 they're bringing all their experience and consumers wants to the table which means the game will be extremely player friendly.
I personally cannot wait to make a Charr Ele or Mesmer .^_^.

That would actually be illegal as it's plagiarism, the best you'll get is the gist of it as a summery. However if someone wants to write an article on GW2 for this site please go ahead, just remember to cite your sources and quotes.
If you submit it as an article a staffer will be able to check it over and make sure it's all nice n' legal.

Yes, yes!!!! You win!!! Another person (other than Jeni who I noticed agreed with me in another thread) who sees the light and is not being a mindless "I hate WoW because others hate it" drone.
In any case, if this ends up being as good as I think it will be, I may quit WoW, not because I hate it (I love it) but the fee is kind of meh.

Just fyi: they did it for the quake wars article because in the issue that had the article in it (or was supposed to) didn't, due to a printing error.
If you can't get a copy of the magazine just hang about the net. I'm sure more details will spring up over the next few weeks, months, etc...
And I'm sorry but his trolling worked I simply can't not respond to this.

Thank you :D So anyone have any way way early race decisions made. Will you shun the new races and play only humans or will you take the opportunity to get on the other end and play a charr? Personally I think I'll probably be playing a Male Sylvari the whole fey/faierie/elvish thing appeals to me and I'll most likely have a Norn as well, since something about them really reminds me of Dwarves.

I intend to play whatever's hot. If there are racial benefits, I'll obviously do calculations and pick the best, however I REALLY REALLY don't want to see that kind of thing in GW.

Darn! One thing I like about GW is that you make a char, and that's it for that profession. You can swap armour, skills, weapons...you don't need to make another char to try something different. But, with the limited info we have, I'll wait and see how much of a difference it makes ^^

But nothing wrong with posting on it as some may not have seen the other posts or new to the site or hate info selling google. But none the less I like the info and always nice to hear it and someone so excited about it.

I don't really think anyone would question that a-net and Gaille Grasy are full of crap and say all kinds of stuff they either don't deliver upon, or deliver in a manner that was less than what they promised.
That being said, I am still playing GW.
The expansuon , Eyes Of The North looks VERY good to me from what I have seen/read so far. I LOVE that there will be no need to level up any further and that the content will focus on challenge right from the get go. It is about time a-net did something right, and creating something to enhance what already exists, rather than reinventing the game again is a VERY good move in my opinion.
It is hard to find any info that is really "solid" about GW2 , but from what rumors I have heard so far it will focus much more on PvE, and I like that very much. It is about time a-net realized that a FREE online game needs to cater to the people that play it. The vast majority play for PvE and making PvE'rs happy will undoubtedly ensure the sale of multiple copies to many people.
It may be time to say goodbye to GW, Lord knows a-net has broken the game so many times that a fresh start should appeal to everyone......
I am really looking forward to GW 2 =D
