Bots usually take straight lines like an NPC would in game, they will repeat actions:
Zone in
Run to Merchant
(Maybe run to storage)
Zone out
They won't stand around for long and they wont run to random places. Bots often don't have guild tags.
A good place to see this is at the Granite Citadel where you'll see a constant stream selling and running out.

I wouldnt say running in straight lines is bot-like, after all, they do have an auto-run. And I usually click on an NPC to move to it(cause i'm too lazy to manually move my char there).
But yes, they are usually pretty eazy to spot....most of the time they do the same course of actions. Zone in, run to merchant, zone out.....every now and then, going to storage too.

These are general tell tale signs of bots, but sometimes its not always this obvious .
For example a few nights ago i was in yaks bend international district.
There were 2 level 20s with chinese names that were Mo/Me ,
one seemed to be going and coming back once in a while,
these might have been bots, but i wasnt sure, i mean you dont usualy see level 20s of the same profession in yaks bend.

If you want to know what a bot looks like, go to granite citadel in Shiverpeaks, or yohlon haven (international district) in Elona. Any monk in those locations is virtually guaranteed to be a bot. They run from the portal signpost straight to the merchant, then back to the signpost, then zone out.

You take some paint that is the opposite color of whatever armor they're wearing. Then you kinda get it on a brush (make sure to keep it pretty gloppy). Then you splash the brush in a whipping motion toward them. Presto! Spotted bot!

And usually no matter how much you pester them with whispers they never tell you to stop...
Oh and I heard that if you sucsesfuly gain trade with a bot it just walks back and forth in a straight line about 3-4 feet long for hours and hours, can anyone confirm that?

It depends on how the bot was made. A good bot would just ignore a trade window and walk out of town anyway. But if someone used an AutoIt bot, and the trade window popped up where AutoIt was going to click, then the trade window would interfere with the point-and-click provided by autoit.

Guidelines to see a bot are:
Mostly in groups (5)
same main and sec proffesion
do the same movement.
Zone-in -> farm -> Merchant -> zone-out
Go see yourself at Granite citadel they all do the same movement.
and they aren't in a guild ( mostly )

Usuals for a Bot (I know it's repeated but it has a couple more.)
1-Asian Name/Randmom Letters i.e. Fgfgfgfg Gfgfgf
2-usually has blue tatoos
3-usually a blonde female or a bald male
4-they repeatedly Zone->Merchant->Walk to an NPC/Sign->Zone (no changes at all)
5-has the same profession as everyone else stupid enough to use a bot =P

A bot is a macro/progam that runs in guild wars doing certain things, (eg, farming). It is against the EULA (what you agreed to to starting playing).

i actually had a very hard conversation with one of the advanced bots. found it in kamdan int. it had a somewhat good vocab and even whisperd me, but you could tell it was a bot..straight lines only and every 5 minutes to the dot ,all it did was ask for a ferry to yohlon haven(breeding ground for bots)
You could run all you want buddy..your just gonna die tired.

Yeah also if you go to ToA American districts you see a bunch of botters. They stand in front of the entrance to UW and wait there probly autoclicking over and over until grenth comes out which is when we have favor. Plenty of them everywhere.
quit gw for good. end of story.

Um, just because it looks like a dog, it smells like a dog, acts like a dog, sniffs like a dog, it could be someones mother...In other words just because someone acts bottish doesnt mean s/he is a bot. I mean if you farmed all day doing the same sequence, people would think your a bot. People who farm all day arent bots, people with FoW armor arent bots, people who do the exact same sequence every hour doesnt nesscessarly mean theyre bots. Before you assume something that may or not be true, check for yourself.
We wonder, "Why?" when we lose friends, and there are never any good answers.
