Eurogamer interviews GW2 developers...

Its a very nice interview with more details on how they are thinking of implementing persistence and the level cap issue. They still qualify all of it with the usual "nothing is finalized" bit, but I think it does help lay out where they are headed...

Click here to check it out.

Sorry if its been posted before, but I did a quick search and didn't see it.

Cool find....I like how the persistant world thing will work, basically multiple servers, each limited to a certain size. BUT you can go only any server you want, whenever you want, so you dont have to create a new character to play on a new server, with different friends.

RE: Eurogamer interviews GW2 developers...

I am still skeptical about how much this game is actually going to be like WoW and also, this 'persistant world' thing is 1 of the things i actually h8ed about WoW. I go after an enemy to kill it, and suddenly i got some half soaked pain in the *** come up behind me and start attacking aswell. If i wanna fight, i wanna fight with ppl i choose or by myself. I just really hope that a-net realise that ppl butting in and bugging the hell outta you (well me) isn't a desireable thing.

AND

the level cap thing is still bugging me, it's jsut another elitisum thing...

On an up side
I love the thought of another proffesion getting a shape changing thing, other than the dervish. I think it'll be wkd to change into a bear, even tho it's another WoW thieft.
And another new spieces (well i not heard oif it so far) the 'surrow' no pics i sen so far but sound like they could be good ^_^

IGN's Anual Merridien R lvl 20 ...Fia Fli Mo lvl 20 ... Frozen Wasteland W lvl 20 ... Ignited Siren E lvl 20 ... Slye Girl P lvl 20 ... Slye Boy N lvl 5 (pre-searing char) ... Slye Madonna M (Storage) ... Lange De LA Morte or Slye *insert proffesion i am playing* PvP char

So, shapeshifting is a WoW thief.....yet shapeshifting(especially into a bear) has been around in videogames since before diablo II: LoD(D2's expansion). Interesting.....

As for the persistant world, here's an easy fix for kill stealing. If you attack a monster first, you get all the drops and full experience no matter who kills it, as long as you hit it within the last 10 seconds before it got killed. That way, if someone kills things that you initiated the attack on, you will get the full benifits and they will get nothing. Simple as that, problem solved.

Why do people keep bringing WoW up? WoW is not the be all, end all of games. Just about everything in WoW is inspired off something else. Same for any other game out there. So stop with the WoW comparisons!

*On Topic*

This is sounding pretty good so far. I like how they'll keep most everything that we like in Guild Wars.

And about the Persistant World: Remember that they said there would be dungeons and other such things that aren't Persistant. And I would assume that the good stuff will be in those dungeons, so no worries about getting robbed. And MWPeck's idea solves the problem aboveground.

...Except that if people are "enemy camping" and your character is too slow to get the preemptive strike over others, you will be waiting eternally for respawns.

Another note is that the article suggests the Hero system didn't accomplish what was intended. Instead, it promoted mission soloing with henchmen and no players. Sadly, I feel like a contributor to this "abuse" because I am guilty of simply completing missions without people. I feel sad, because I know it hurt the game to a degree, but I still enjoy the freedom.

Which is what the Companion System will hopefully fix.

Here's how it works (as per the article):

You will have a choice of getting a companion for your char. If you get it, it will not take up a slot in the party Window. Example, if you are a Mage with low armor, you can get a Tanker companion.

If you choose to NOT get a companion, you will get a buff to balance with people who do have companions.

I havnt had that problem with any game, including the few weeks I played WoW on a friends account. And if high levels did it to annoy people, simple...make high levels unable to attack low level monsters, to a point where the monsters wont attack them, and they cant attack the monster. Make it like a 10 level gap where a level 30 couldnt attack anything lower then a level 20 monster. This, for the most part, would stop that problem.

As for the hero system, I honestly dont think it contributed much to people soloing missions. Might be different in factions, but in every mission in prophecies, I have done solo with hench, or just me, a single friend and hench. All the hero's did was make it slightly easier, not only because you could customize there skills, but you could strategically place them.

But, I think the Companions they talk about, could be quite helpful....though things will have to be made quite hard otherwise it will be too easy. But, if I want to go solo on my warrior, I can bring a monk with me. And when I party up, I have my own customized monk, created to help my exact character build, as opposed to a monk designed as a general heal for the whole party.

The reason area's will have to be harder, is because, lets take an 8 person party. Right now, at the best, you get 8 people and 8 pets(if everyone was part ranger). With the companion system(assuming they keep 8-person parties) You would have 8 people, and 8 companions designed to help their boss, as opposed to part of the party being reserved for the defensive line.

I really haven't played WoW. The only game I've played of this nature is one that's about to hit shelves, and in it I experienced what I stated first-hand. I'm not sure how other games might deal with that problem, but I would find frequent repetitions to be quite annoying.

Concerning heroes, thank you for your points. I see benefit in having a companion option (like having a semi-flexible pet in GW), but it isn't quite like being able to assemble a full soloable team. However, although I find it more relaxing to just create a full team of computerized AI and go play, I see where the idea runs counter to the idea of "Guild Wars".
