Im curious as to peoples veiws on the upcoming issue, Issue 9. This edition sees the opening of auction houses, a more evolved and profitable invention system, flight poses, wings for natural and tech people and the opening of a new area for villains (the abyss).
I have to say, im rather unimpressed by this whole issue. This issue seems to have things that should have been implimented in past issues or things that arent really needed in the game at all.
The tech wings should have been implimented in Issue 8 when the demon and angel wings were added. The flight poses were put in a while back, but withdrawn when they were found to be buggy.
I really dont think that the auction houses or inventions are a great idea. The place will be like Wow all of a sudden with people becoming loot whores and swarming around Wentworths, spamming buffs. Most people only care about the invention system to get Invention Origins and make their characters more elite with steroid buffed stats.
I feel there are things which should have taken precident over the breakthrough idea. People over in City of Villains are howling for their next Mastermind pet and their Nictus AV's and the whole lot of them are getting very irate that the Devs keep putting them off.
Here in CoH, i've noticed that Tankers have half the powerset range that blasters and defenders do. Missions in the later stages of the game are very samey and lacking in real interest.
Whats your veiws on the new issue? What should be implimented and what fears do you have over the new inventions?

a lot of people that play CoX are first time MMOers, myself included. i think the AHs (auction houses) will give a neat aspect to the game. even though i have no basis for judgement, i dont think it will be close to WoW. the games are different enough that i dont see it happening.
there are tons of new badges available for AH sales and stuff and crafting. i personally won't really focus on auctioning right away. i'm just going to keep playing the game and i am looking forward to the statesman TF!

I am looking forword to all the aspects of the new issue. One reason I love online games is that they introduce new content to the game. I personally dont worry about what is or isnt coming out for the game. I have so many AT to try all the combos on that I am too busy to think about such things.
Okay maybe I think about them a little.

I do Agree with you on the Wentworths,It is a good idea but the through it in way to soon.
I am looking forward to the Enhancements though,It's going to help on alot of problems i have been having with Inf.
I'm disappointed i didn't get to see the old hami.So it's going to be alot easier for me since i haven't gone near the hive. It'll be easier for me to learn than others cause of the big change.

Well maybe they will put out a photo album remembering the old Hami. Like his first steps....when he got potty trained....The first time he looked like a big thing of jello.

I think that the Auction houses are going to be nuts initially. After the first few weeks it should be much more tame. And selling your inventions will be useful for influence for newer players.
Personally, I havnt had any troubles with influence since I hit my first 50. And I will probably just make my own IOs from drops I collect. Or at least keep them within my SG.
The IOs are very appealing to me though. It will be fun taking my main and reworking his enhances some.

The Hami for CoV has been a long time coming, Im sure it will be welcomed warmly. But, I think they have been a bit neglected lately as well. Thank goodness for me I dont really play on the dark side much if any. I remember how when CoV came online my server was so empty on the hero side.. I was like Son of a B$(*!
I think the later stages are just OK now, Perhaps its because my second hero on his way to 50 is of the same origin. One thing for sure i do enjoy in the later stages is the pace. Very very fast. But this is also where I learn alot more about other ATs, how some of these other builds (other than what im used to) really start to rock. Rad builds for example. Incredible what they can do in their 40s. (must fight the altism urge).

As far as releases go you have to expect that not every one of them is going to cater to what you might want. Many people are pleased with the features coming out, and those who would not use most of the new features are up in arms because "The devs just don't listen.".
Everything on the release are options that were requested by the playerbase. It looks like a couple things like the additional wing designs and flight poses are "Tieing up loose ends". The flight poses were already done once, but buggy. So they cleaned them up, tested them and now we get them. The additional wing designs were probably already created when I8 came out, they either could not be fully tested in time or they too were buggy and we got a delay in their release. I kinda thought it was stupid to make only the two options, but knowing the mechanics behind software development and testing it makes a lot more sense now.
This is still a buisiness to them. They are making the additions for the largest section of the player base that has bothered to report to them what they want. I know a lot of people are currently complaining that I9 does nothing for them. That's cool, but how many of you voiced an opinion to someone that matters? Did you put in suggestions to the devs for their priority list? You know they have a priority list.... right?
Every one of the additions you see on this release took hundreds of development hours and that's being generous, probably took thousands when you put all the developers involved and their time together. These people are in it for the money, and they would not have expended those hours if there wasn't some sort of indication from their paying playerbase to direct them.
It's like everything else. Voice your opinion to the devs, but expect a possible answer of no. But if enough people share the same opinion as you, the devs will say to themselves "This will keep them paying that monthly fee..... and apparently a lot of them." Then you get results. This was simply the biggest bang for the buck based on player requests to hit the largest part of their demographic with development costs, time required to complete a project, prioritization taken into account and any existing code that was nearly ready thrown in to give the release "volume".
The "Volume" is simply to make the release look like you are getting more, but they already had it ready, just not finished in QC. This is common practice for all software platforms, not just gaming ones. It's a trick that they have used for years. Why do I know this you ask, because I work for a software development company. I understand what drives their mentality with these releases to some degree.
People loose the concept that this isn't all about their personal experience, but a groups experience(and a very large group at that). It's a buisiness. Making some changes might seem very simple to you and me, but I doubt very much that many of the players really have a grasp on what it takes to write in a new AT or feature. It doesn't happen by magic. It's a huge operating expense for the company.
I9 does almost nothing for me personally either, but I love the hell out of this game as is, so little things like new wing designs and flight poses are frosting on an already tasty cake. Not a lot, but the game as a whole kicks some serious ass.
When new base stuff comes out that doesn't do much for me either. I'm not really editing any bases, but for those who are in my SG, they can make the base I use every time I play a little cooler. That wasn't directly a boon to me, but I get to enjoy it in some fasion anyhow.
This is what you have to set yourself up for on releases, trust me, I've seen 7 releases already and I'll see I9 and I10.
"What is coming out that I can use/enjoy from this release?"
They cannot please everyone. It's not logistically possible, so there is every possibility that some releases do absolutely nothing for some players. That is not their intent, but it's going to happen. The law of averages and Murphy's law absolutely demand it.
There will be no release that sucks after we all lived through ED and the change in the number of enemies that you can hit. Everything since has been new additions and we should all look for something new coming out in I9 that we CAN enjoy, not drooling over the candy on the developers desk we cannot have yet.
Gotta look for that silver lining folks. And there really isn't a dark cloud on the horizon this time.
If you are still genuinely displeased with the direction the devs are taking, and still intend to stick with the game. Take the time to professionally express your feature desires to the devs. Numbers will always win out. If the community speaks as a whole, the devs will listen. It's what they based these released features on in the first place.

Well, Thundarpants, to look on the bright side, as you request, I'm looking forward to I9. Not that I'm really excited about selling stuff at Wentworth's, but I love the tech wings and the invention system looks really nifty. Most of all, though...
I love how many new BADGES there are. I've got more than 300 badges on Kid, and this opens up so many more. I'm going to have to make a cowboy costume for Kid just so I have an excuse to use the 'Pilgrim' badge.
Bring on I9!

Trust me on this one, I have spent about 20 hours on test the last couple of weeks, and in my short time in WoW, I crafted more than I leveled, the new salvage system is NOTHING like that of WoW's. Salvage is distributed exactly as it is now, except invention salvage is even more random. My teammates have no shot at "stealing" my salvage, and people wont start kill stealing in hopes of getting a rare drop.
