| Odd Problem With GW...HELP! |

OK folks, I'm fairly handy with a computer, but this one has me stumped. You know how it downloads files whenever there is a patch, then when you zone into areas of the game immediately after the patch it downloads and decompresses the files for that zone? Well, recently (the last week or so) when I zone it takes FOREVER to decompress the files, we're talking 5-15 minutes...for only 3-5 files. When there are 200 files...well, you do the math. This is a recent occurrence, and I still haven't found out what is causing it. So, I'm coming here to see if anybody has any ideas.
First off, where do those files download and decompress to? MY GW folder is conspicuously empty of everything but the Gw.DAT, GW.exe, and the GW.temp files. There is nothing else in there.
There used to be the Template folder, Screens folder, and a GWScreens folder (I added the GWScreens manually, it's not a GW created folder), but I renamed the Main GW folder to GuildWarsBackup and re-installed everything into Guild Wars. Unfortunately, I have no idea where the other files disappear to. Do they somehow write themselves into the executable? I've never heard of that being possible, but there is still a bit about programming I've gotta learn. Do they write themselves to some other directory?

I have roughly half my HD still avaliable...185GB used on a 300GB HD. I also have 1.5GB RAM, and while my Processor is not a Dual Core, it used to have no problems with the GW downloads.
I've got another question though...has anybody hovered over the new "FPS, Ping, etc" dot and seen "Background Download: #MB" where the # is a number that keeps going up??

Some times defragmenting the hard drive will cause it to run faster, i had to do that bout 3 weeks ago and downloading files went alot faster. hope that works. oh by the way, defragmenting takes a long while, so i would do when your not using the comp for anything, while your sleeping sometimes makes it easier to wait for.LOL GL.

Hehe...already did that. Practically the first thing I did. Got a tip in-game from K A R O Q I A N (don't know their name on here :p ). Will try that real quick.
Looks like that real quick will be about a half hour or more. 30k files downloading

here is what you can do:
all data from updates are downloaded to the gw.dat file
you can however download all at once..
it takes some time, but you won't get stressed ingame
how to:
create a shortcut from the gw.exe on your desktop
right click it and ask properties
there you see at 'target' (for example) "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"
where C is the drive where GW is installed
Program Files\Guild Wars are the maps where your Gw.exe is stored
now..
add a space and -image after the last "
so
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
do not forget the space before -image
this will download all your missing files, no more waiting ingame =)
grtz

Hey Trib, that's the advice I was given in-game :) That's why my "real quick" has turned into "a while" :p
