After the last major update, and everyone crying about soloing being nerfed and its effect on the economy, I decided to check something. I Googled a few websites that sell gold for the game. Prior to the update 1000K went for 60-80 US Dollars. Today....160-180 US Dollars. Cry all you want people but that is very much a positive for this game. I applaud ANET and hope they continue to do good work towards reducing the exploit of this game that is solo farming.

Lol, Solo farming is even better! I got 4 golds in a little under an hour. I love this update too. I got tons more XP, and more gold. Good job A-net indeed!

At first I was kinda worried by the solo farming nerf. I'm glad it's hitting the gold farmers, as all money should be earned by the player. Fortunately farming isn't completly dead, so I'm very happy with it. Just like all patches that change things you have to give it a go and see how it works.

Im proud of this one aswell, the bot farmers really got hit hard, but there still about.. what can you do..
Anyway, At first I figured i would be out of a way to make money, but Tombs Hard Mode is great!
HM really brought players together again, imo.

yeah I was kind of upset I couldn't really make much cash for my 15k Kurzick set but vaquishing areas can give you quite a bit of money and people are actually trying to get into groups instead of soloing or hero/henching everything

Heck, I used to go in groups, but now I do even better on my own! I got 4 golds, over 10 purples, lots of cash, and nearly 2 skill points in a little under an hour soloing. I'm happier soloing now!

Solo farming isn't so much nerfed as it is differen't. I am making more money with hard mode then I was without it now actually. I pretty much agree with gaile and what she said. It is less about getting lot's of stuff but more abou getting good stuff to sell to players. Oh and eventually the gold will go back down in price due to the many still existing way's so easily solo farm(I will not reveal them!).

I guess you could say that I cried about soloing being nerfed, after all, its all I had fun with in GW recently. Since they made ecto's and golds n such exempt from the loot scaling, I have been happy though....me and harrow have done 3 Hard Mode UW duo teams, each run, we each get an ecto...as well as a few golds usually.
As for complete soloing, I know of some spots, and frankly, I get 2-4 golds in about half an hour of soloing, works great for my wisdom title.
What they did when they made ecto's/golds/ the other stuff exempt from the loot scaling, is they made material items more common, while making solo farming less profitable in raw gold, both because not as much gold drops, and not as many white/blue/purple things drop.
What this does is allows us who want to farm, farm while still making some nice money, while forcing the botters/gold farmers to either team up, or farm as much as before for less than half the profit.
And, that is the reason I went from annoyed/sad, to happy about solo farming...still decent for us soloers, while dropping the business for the botters.

I am still thinking that Anet didn't do it right. I don't have any complain about the nerf. Anet didn't give us any Acution House or further improvment for trading your gold items. Now I have a lot of gold items still I don't have want spam the trade channel for a couple of hours to get a proper value.
I could use guildwars guru auction but not a lot of ppl bid there or not as easy in game auction house like other MMO has. In other MMO I could sit in town, broadcast the items and value and I can leave it for hours. It will automatically trade with other player who want to buy.
To full take advantage of this update, Guild Wars definately need a better trading system which I can leave my characters for hours and it should automatically take care of the trading. or Auction House.
Anet nerf solofarming but why not give us better trading system (Acution House) in order to have easier trade as Gaile said in Guild Wars Guru forum. We requested it for a long time, still no sign of it. Oh Well.

well I have been doing hard mode out side of monastary with me and my 3 heros.. I cleared the entire section "getting my gold thing for that" .. I got a total of 13 golds.. that's just me o_O
There are times where I can get no golds .. and sometimes I get 4-5 per run for several runs.. with just me and heros.. one run I got "from the same group".. 1 green, 3 golds.. 1 tome.. :D then opend a chest and got a elite tomb and all this just trying to get max sunspear title.
"not really solo farming" but farming will never be nerfed.. only the method of farming will be changed

i like the update and i could also see this coming cuz GW is a team based game after all, henchman or humans. GW is not about going solo. so GJ anet.

If you do want to solo farm for golds, you have to do it in lots of different areas on different characters otherwise u lose the drop rate.
i can personally get about 3 golds in ten minutes, then i wont get anything, which is fair enough.

At least it made the whiners happy. I understand people like to farm, I do too, but the concept of the game is teamwork, emphasis on "team". I know I was sitting in town when the update finally hit and all people did was gloat saying things like: "I'm glad they're making hardmode so difficult, maybe it'll finally get rid of the leechers and noobs so only real players like us will be left". How arrogant can you be? But then these are probably the same people who have no life outside the game. And when they heard they had to share drops, man were they upset, but I loved hearing them whine. =)

yaya i worked out how to kill bog scales with 55hp when they use chilblains - run away and recast .
i can also kill mergoyles now that have power block, but probaly not more then one

Way to generalize there. All of us "whiners" that like to be able to get on the game and enjoy a little alone time without having to interact the entire time I am gaming sure enjoy this latest update. This topic has been brought up before and quite honestly I am sick and tired of hearing people whine about everyone having to see the game the way they see it.
The Game has PVE and PVP so you can play which ever one suits you. The game has allowed the ability and rewards people for going solo in the form of higher drop rates for certain things. If ANET wanted to stop people from solo farming all together they would not award people for it and they would not allow you to leave town without a full party. So please get off of the soap box and stop telling people that this game is only intended for team play. It is intended for people to have fun however they enjoy their time online. Whether it be solo, team, pve, pvp, etc.......

Quite the contrary... I believe the person you replied to was trying to imply the use of personal shops. The last MMO I played had features that allowed players to...
1) Set up a personal merchant stand where transactions could be made without the player being near his computer. Set the prices you want for you item(s), your character would be designated as a vendor. If someone wanted to buy the item, they simply click your character, check your vends, input the gold amount and voila! Instant sale. I used to farm a ton of quest loots and sell them in bulk while I slept.
2) Speak to an NPC Merchant in town, which allowed players to have an ingame NPC sell an item(s) with small a tax set by the guild who owned the town. In that game, players could specify how long they wanted the item listed and the price they wanted and then go about playing the game while the NPC was selling their item. Taxes would be taken automatically from the sale. After the sale period, the item would be deposited into a Warehouse that players would have to interact with and retrieve their item or lose it within 36 hours after the end of the sale period.
With the amount of rare drops in game from the addition of Hard Mode, I've already filled up the "new" storage slots given in the previous storage update. I think there should be a different way to conduct trades in game and would like to be able to spend my GW time playing rather than sitting in an outpost spamming WTS (which I never do).

Actually no, they removed the old anti-farm code that reduced loot from repeated entering a zone to kill a certain mob. So now, you can do the same farm 100 times and get the same average drops, you just had bad luck.

I believe that the statement meant there was code removed that reduced drops if you entered an area repeatedly, not killed the same monsters repeatedly.
Really weird , i just went into this place and killed (solo) about 80 monsters, in two areas.
in the first area, i got 3 golds from one group and a lot of purples from random groups, but in the second area i got definitly no golds and purples i think.
i haven't farmed in this area before with the charcter .
this is in hard mode by the way.

I've been farming the same area for a few days now, maybe about 20 monsters, but their spread out.....I do at least 2-3 runs a day, and I get at least 2-3 golds a run, hasnt dropped at all. Also, me and harrow duo farmed HM UW, we did 3 runs, in 2 runs, we only killed the aatxes at the beginning, the 3rd run, we killed everything.....in each of the 3 runs, we both got an ecto, for a total of 2 ecto's per run....we also, on each run, got a total of 3 golds, and like 5 purples....each run every run.
EDIT: Both of the area's I farm are in hard mode(the one with 20 or so monsters, and the duo UW farm).
Also, the original code reduced drops based on map re-entry, not on monsters killed. This is why farming gates of kryta mission, and the undead outside of bergen was a decent farm, because despite farming the same monsters, it was 2 different zones, so it took a lot longer to activate the anti-farm.

I farm the hulking stone elementals outside Sardelec Sanitarium, use anything with part rt, usually W/Rt, or a 55 monk based on the W/Rt....though I personally use the UW W/D build, as that works too, and I dont have factions. There is a loop you can follow, northwest out of the zone, and usually 2 bosses that I, as a W/D can kill.

Would that happen to be in The Cursed Lands explorable of Kryta? Tons of skeleton rangers in one particular area as well as the all the other dead mobs (Grasping Ghouls, Skeleton Bowmasters ,Skeleton Monks, Damned Clerics, Necrid Horsemen, Zombie Warlocks, Skeleton Mesmers, Skeleton Sorcerers)

I suggest you read my comment again and think before you open your mouth. I said that I understand farming, and I like to do it too. If you want to farm that's fine, the ONLY thing I criticized was the players who think themselves superior to everyone else because all they do is play guild wars 24/7 and would rather complain about "noobs" rather than help them or get insulted when you try to tell them what to do.
As for having people see the game the way others see it, what are you talking about? Go back and watch/read any and I mean ANY interview with the guild wars creators and they all say that yes the game is open to do what you want, but they also said that teamwork was a main theme of the game. I never said that teamwork should be the sole concept, just that it's emphasized.
If anything seems you're the one trying to sway opinion by only interpreting what you think I was trying to say. But if you read it again you'll see I said no such thing.

i made 100-150K a day just farming just normal loot and gold( and i didnt played all day)

I agree with the OP on this one Great job Anet! They got the balance right after the change to the solo farming 'nerf'. It works incredibly well for those of us who want some quality 'alone time' and Hard Mode made a massive boost to teaming again for the times when we want to be around people.
I'm really pleased to see that already its making an impact on the gold sellers. Here lies the problem - Anet has to think very, very carefully about any kind of auction system, anything that allows the player to go afk and not have to interact in some unpredictable way is going to be open to exploits from bots, it's a difficult one to solve.

Yes , i farm in nebo terrace and cursed lands :) .
i wont tell u how though thats up to you.
For some random reason ive also farmed those hulkig elementals,
but i thought you couldn't get golds in ascalon even in hard mode?
