| SS Brute Vs. Energy Brute |
|
|
|
K so I started an Energy/Energy Brute and liked it so far, but he doesnt seem to put put as much damage as a SS brute. I know that SS brutes get the ability Rage which increases their Attack and Accuracy greatly but leaves them unable to attack, drained of end and has kind of a slow recharge. I recently teamed with a SS/Elec brute who used Rage the second it wore off and was still able to attack and didnt lose any end really. I use build up which helps out here and there but only lasts like 10 seconds and takes forever to recharge. I know that Energy has some nice attacks that deal nice damage but SS has attacks like that as well. Any advice on which is better?

In early levels EM doesnt do as much damage as an SS brute because they get their most powerful attack at such an early level, but overall a EM brute does alot more damage than a SS brute.
And you may want to check your sources, because BU and Rage are no different from each other, and BU takes almost 1/3 of the time it takes for Rage to recharge. For EM brutes BU gives them just enough time to pull off Energy Transfer and Total Focus, which is enough to kill just about anything.
And to answer your question, i personally think EM is alot better than SS, i think SS suxs, but thats just my opinion.

Here's a little chart i put together of the total overall damage each brute's melee puts out, i got it from Hero Builder...
ELM…25.2
DM…25.6
SS…27.2
SM…30.5
EM…34.1
FM…40
Note: This is without BU/Rage and Enhancements.
The only reason Fiery Melee does the most is because of the damage overtime it does, which is added into it.

it is for burst damage. energy melee has the top, if not top two, most powerful melee attacks in the game: energy transfer and total focus.
but for sustained damage, SS wins out because of rage.
and IMO rage >>> build-up even with the 10 seconds of downtime. build-up lasts maybe 10 seconds, but rage lasts a minute or two maybe? and even when rages crashes and you cant attack, you can still keep fury up if you are in the middle of a mob.
rage ftw!

It could be the combo SS/Elec !
I have a level 18 SS/Elec Brute and so far he is my favorite Brute. I have been playing CoV for almost a year and thought I tried every Brute combo. But I didn’t make an SS/Elec Brute till I made Pucker about 2 months ago. He is the only toon I have ever made that can clear a Mayhem Mission Map of all the enemies without doing side missions. I had to go into the jail to find more Cops to beat up. I can keep my Fury up a lot easier then the other Brutes I have made. Energy Melee would be my 2nd choice for a brute because of the burst damage and the disorient factor.
IMO I think SS is the best Brute Melee because of the damage, knockdown, disorient, rage and the 1 ranged attack. I don’t think any other Brute Melee is more versatile.

Hero Hater - level 29 Energy/Regen Stalker
Xtc - level 35 Energy/Elec Brute

After playing an SS tank to 50, you'd think I'd be biased towards the powerset, but even so I would have to vote in favour of EM. If nothing else it has a more varied damage output. Energy damage is far less resisted than the smashing damage that SS dishes out so even if SS isn't far behind on the pure damage charts, the fact that less of EM's damage is resisted pushes it even fuither ahead. If you add into the equation that the mobs most resistant to SS's smashing damage are often the ones most weak towards energy damage, this lead strengthens further.
But EM's bonusses don't stop there. The stuns on EM attacks are far more reliable than those on SS. The only mezz effect in SS that could be relied on would the hold of KO Blow. These stuns can be very effective in keeping you alive. After playing SS when I tried other powersets I missed the stuns, even after less reliable SS ones. In addition, the burst damage can be a lifesaver as well. It is far better in terms of survivability to get the problem targets out of the way quickly with one or two shots of hug burst damage, even if over time the damage might not be as high.
That being said, if you plan to tank on your brute and you can secure good support, the stuns and burst damage providing survivability wouldn't be as important. Infact the better damage over time of SS would aid in keeping aggro.

Rage FTW.
But in all seriousness you can keep Rage Perma, something you can't do with Build up. Hallelujah Holla back.

Yeah kinda old news there bud >.> but since you've brought my topic back to my attention I'll fill in what I've recorded since last time. I've seen more Fire, Energy and Elec brutes than any other this past month of play. I usually team with 3-5 brutes per team and most are Fire, Energy or Elec (very little Rock). My first time teaming with another SS brute since I first made this topic was just this past Friday. Even still though while I'm going around I hardly see any SS brutes out there. So all in all I'll just say that I'm glad I stuck with Energy, though I do wish I chose a better secondary, Energy doesnt to great now the End drain and and regain powers are nice but idk.. just doesnt seem to be the greatest.

I'm not sure why, but I can guess that the reason you see more of those types of Brutes is due to PLing/Farming purposes. If you look back to the old Dreck days, what type of Tank did you see farming those missions? Fire mainly and any other set that had a lot of DoT damage. SS doesn't provide a lot of DoT, but does have some AoE built in if you stack your targets correctly (found this out from personal experience).
I will still hold true and say that SS is, if not the best, one of the top 2 in terms of damage dealt. Hands down, no questions about it. Now, again, if a person wants to Farm or help PL their VG mates/friends they'll tend to lean towards the high DoT dealers that can gather up as many as they can and turn on the fire. SS actually requires a lot more playing than the other DoT/AoE builds.

Just to add something in...the Energy secondary has Conserve Power which is HUGE for keeping your DPS WAY up for a short period of time. Not running out of endurance makes it so you can bolt from mob to mob laying waste while your Fury bar is high.

I've been playing an energy/elec brute and I used to play an SS/Dark brute for awhile. I couldn't stand the end drain with the SS/Dark brute so I deleted him. My EM/elec is awesome. It's only lvl 23 so I still don't have Energy Transfer but the damage overall on that thing is still pretty awesome. However, I will say that I loved having rage. Also, during TV farms I always see a SS/Stone brute leading the farm and completely dominating it. So while SS is very good in my opinion with rage and all the other stuff, I still would choose Energy simply because of the burst damage, stun, and the fact that it is the only set(I think) with 2 extreme damage powers and coupled with a buildup that can be very deadly. Also, elec armor is an awesome choice because its not nearly as end heavy as other brute armors due to power sink and conserve power.

Syndroid- lvl 50 Energy/Elec Brute

I know this is an older topic but just wanted to chime in and say that since i made my first Tank on the heroes side i was extremely impressed with EM. and a bit obsessed with it my 2 brutes are both EM/something and when i saw you can play a stalker with EM i went ahead and made one of those. I think in my opinion it is one of the best melee sets out there. I have a SS/invul brute and tank and Rage is good no doubt on that but as far as my tank there is no way he can keep up with some of the scrappers my friends play however my EM tank is miles ahead of them with just two of the 5 atks he has. and my EM brutes are slowly coming up in the ranks as dmg dealers as well. the only problem with my Brutes is if they have to endure a long battle i really have nothing to offset the absence of the blue line cept insp. -- i lucked out with my tank and took Ice so I always have a blue line with him. --but i do like the nrg/nrg thingy i will have to make one and try it out.
