Some people are jealous, some angry(perhaps those who have been banned in the past?), some try to do as much as they can to a big website for the fame of doing something to a large site.

I recently got a Trojan, a virus and some spyware. Installed Norton Antivirus, (was dumb that I didnt have this beforehand)and now I've disabled my cookies. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with Gameamp but thanks for the warning.

Anyone smart enough to do what he is doing, is smart enough to mask his IP....meaning sure you can possibly find out where that IP is at, but that doesnt mean thats where he is at.

Stay away from comments posted by goruning998
With the infamous dot in them. We're looking at how to get rid of them as there are thousands (yes, really thousands) on old news items and articles. We're deleting them all but you can imagine how much that sucks.. So if you wanna piss off a staffer just mention deleting comments all day...
:P
We're hoping the devs can get rid off them all at once but Ive got the feeling they can only do that with actual posts rather then comments.
Anyway, back to deleting comments.

I just want to keep this bumped. There are tonnes of comments by this malicous poster, every guide and news item has them, with our site thats alot - there are currently 965 guides, so far Ive probably deleted about 80 of them, it's hard going. Hopefully the devs can do something automated if not, as I'm sure you can appreciate, it may take us a while to manualy delete them all.
Just make sure you always keep your virus definitions up to date, scan regularly and use anti-spyware software and all should be well.

Id like to add that using firefox gives a greater protection against the trojan. It would seem that the script is automatically being blocked. I havent had any notification of any sorts with using firefox where as with IE i get bumped every time the script is nearby.

The best trick for now is to simply disable JavaScript, the thing being injected is all JS but I use FireFox so it doesn't effect me either.
Most of the time people hack or phreak because they can or because they want recognition. My guess as to why this site has been targeted tho has to be that someone is trying to force adverts for gold onto our users through pop ups.
Lame :/

I use Opera, and I too have not had any popups or any problems, despitee having javascript enabled.
Also, EG: If the devs have direct access to the DB, they should be able to search for what he posted(in the proper fields), and mass delete all of it....I've done something similar on my site when I've had people spam.

Well, I use firefox, so haven't noticed anything, but I disabled cookies anyway, and it wouldn't let me log in. So whatever, they're back on, hopefully it doesn't cause problems.
And are you deleting guides, or just his comments?

Also...Many many gamers out there simply play games and think that all game related sites are safe. Many of these people have only heard of spyware and hacks like they are urban legend because of youth, ignorance, or whatever. It's not the gamers fault completely. They just don't know any better.
Hackers target networks such as gameamp or allakhazam because of the huge numbers of hits that these sites recieve. Think if half a million people hit a site a day and 250k people are ignorant to this type of trick or just like to post forums. That's quick and easy prey for these people no matter what their reason is.
