My wife does not like the super-hero genre, and I want to be able to play a game with her. CoH is the first MMORPG I have played, and it has far exceeded my expectations. I would prefer to stay with CoH only, but in an effort to get my wife to play also, I was wondering what you folks thought about the other games. Especially the upcoming releases if any of you have beta'd them. Ones that catch my attention first (from www.mmorpg.com) are Middle Earth, Guild Wars, and Auto Assault (I am an old Car Wars fan). I have heard too many problems with immature gamers regarding EQ2, so don't want to go that route, although if you disagree let me know.
Thanks!

Guild Wars (so long as you don't feel a need to purchase
new content updates) is free of monthly charges.
Remember the Diablo 2 model? Buy game, play all you want,
buy expansion, OR NOT, and still play all you want.
Guild Wars is doing that.
Instead of shackling yourself to ANOTHER $12-15/month game,
twice, get Guild Wars when it comes out (probably usual
$50/copy for a new game) and you'll be good to go.
An SG-mate's been playing in the beta, and likes it, but
he's also a big PvP fan. Stick to the PvE zones in GW,
and you and your wife should do ok. (And if she turns out
to be more of a nerd than she thought, go fight as a duo
against other PvP teams :-)

i can't be too much of help on this one (coh is only the second mmorp i've ever played the 1st being UO), but you should check out the other gameamp sites (there is a list of them to the right) you can get on them w/ your wife, and check out the screenshots, maybe ask a few questions on the forums (i'm sure they will let you know about the game)

lol. EQ2 and WOW both have immature players, but what game doesn't? If you get into a good guild, like the D2A hosted guild imperium on EQ2, i've found that it is much more enjoyable then any other MMO i've played.
Before you throw down eq2, you should try the free trail for the isle of refuge. It's pretty interesting and would be completely free.
If you decide then you like the game, you could join us. We are guild Imperium on Befallen server. My characters name is Ferio.
If not, good luck with whatever game you choose. :)

You might want to try a MUD if you don't mind going graphics-free. If you need graphics, then Furcadia is a good free MMO, but there isn't a set RPG system, more of a free-style sortta' deal.
TRIUMPH
Darkpool- lv 50 Kat/Regen Scrap
Experiment 409- lv 7 En/En Blast
Link Maxwell- lv 4 Peacebringer
Mr Jingle Jangle- lv 4 Psi/Psi Dom

A MUD I spent many many moons on is Mirkwood. (mirkwoodmud.org:4000) Great people on there, it's non-PvP, good remort system. Lots of friendly chaps from all over the world. I haven't really been on since I started playing CoH, but I probably should pop in here and there.

If your looking for something different in MMORPG's try Puzzle Pirates, its a tetris-based puzzle MMO that is quite different and I have seen many couples playing together. It has a free trial period, I played it for months.
Another brilliant and completely free MMO I stumbled upon is
Kingdom of Loathing. Don't let the stick figure graphics and simplicity scare you away. The game is genius as it gets more complex and interesting, give it two weeks and you will be hooked.
As mentioned previously, if your wife likes fantasy based RPGing, try World of Warcraft or Everquest II.
Happy Gaming

Ya I heard that WOW is a really great MMORPG. At any given time (I Believe) one server can have up 1,000,000 people on it, so I would check it out.

My suggestion is EQ. The first one. There are still alot of players on it, and most are fairly mature. Alot of even come back from EQ2. I still play it when I have a puter even with CoH loaded. It is ever going. I been playing for years and still havn't seen all the sites. I was also rather suprised that the DoN and OoW expansions added alot of stuff to the game. Plus you can get the platinum version for 19.99 at alot of places. With that all you would need are the DoN and OoW expansions each of which is 19.99 at a few places on the web. DoN and OoW are not required though. Lvl cap is at lvl 70 at the moment but with Alt. Advanced experience you could be building one character for a long time. The guild set and raid set are also still the best I have seen so far. I have also beta tested matrix online and it is not bad. They have no loading screens for you to wait on, when you walk into a building you are in the building. But major graphics firepower is needed. And you will need a decent processor. At least a 2.5gig no matter what the box says. It ate my 2gig alive, hence the burned out puter. Anyway find a game you can play together to avoid some wife faction. I should at that what I played so far on Matrix was very cool. I think they will build it into something fun. SOme of the ideas they have sound interesting. If you get a chance check out the web site. www.matrixonline.com
LOL
