A real Col.

Ampers I thought that the first place I would tell anyone about my news would be here. Within the past 2 weeks I have been thinking and planning this out. I am proud to tell you that I will be joining the many men and woman of the US military. I joined the US Navy yesterday and will be heading to boot camp in 08. Finishing up my last year at my Jr. College first. I'm really looking forward to serving my Country in times of need. So maybe one day there might be a real Col.

Congrats on that Stryker. My dad was Navy for 21 years and doesn't regret it. Although I'm sad to report that you'll never be a Col. (That's an army rank)

You could, however, make Captain, Rear Admiral or even Admiral. :)

Col, welcome to the fold, bro. I served 8 years in the Navy, and don't regret a bit of it. Granted, you are becoming one of those people that always seemed to annoying me (officers), but I won't hold it against you. I'm proud to call you a brother in arms and fellow squid. It's admirable to see anyone join the service in spite of all that's going on right now. Do us proud.

Yep she's been aboard for almost 6 months now, although the Vinson has yet steam under her own power, she's due to leave port sometime in 2008 after a complex re-fuel and re-fit cycle at Norfolk Naval Base. My Dad was also in the Navy in the late 60's, he was part of an anti-submarine patrol squadron. His Flight Helmet and Squadron Insignia have a place of honor in my home.
