Broken Collar-Bone...

Well my typing here is going to be fairly bad seeing as im using only one hand, so please bear with me.

Yesterday when I was playing in a Hockey game, I managed to broke my Collar Bone and bruise my shoulder pretty badly. Heres what happrned.

I was hanging back by the goal (i was on defence). I got a pass, sent it back up, then their offense charged. I skated back, kept them at the boards, and was checked right as I missed the puck.
My stick was jammed near the base of the wall around the rink when I hit it so the butt of it dug into my right shoulder.

At the ER they took some x-rays and gave me a copy on CD^^

So now I am in a sling and catching some serious couch time.
I am unable to move my Right arm without excrutiating pain and I'm now fully realizing how much manu things I can't do.

The doctor said it would take about 6 weeks to heal. So I'm gonna be on the comp for a while.
If anyone else has some unlucky injury stories, I'd be happy to hear them!

p.s. Dont attempt Skateboarding with a broken collar-bone, it hurts.

* You cant wear normal t-shirts either..lol I found that out just now.

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

yowch >.O my injuries seem noobish compared to a broken collarbone bone =P anyways hope you get well soon

o for the injuries I once got to my basketball game late so I didn't stretch and I pulled a leg muscle...couldn't run or jump or barely even walk without it hurting for a short while

another time in baseball the batter hit the ball to the right fielder and it was bases loaded w/ me on third so I ran to home plate but the catcher stepped on my arm with cleats while I was sliding and the right fielder beaned me as he was throwing to the catcher

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

OUCH!!!

I busted my collar-bone back in JHS while at wrestling practice. This kinda break hurts really bad. But look at the good parts! After about a day or two, you'll be fine enough to play video games!

Seriously, I was out of school for like 3 weeks with mine (due to the severity of the break, and the doctor not wanting anyone bumping it and messing it up), and I took the opportunity to play Final Fantasy VIII (this was back when that was still the newest one), and I beat it over a a week and half period. Not too shabby really.

Honestly, it was gaming that kept me sane while my brother wasn't home. :P

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

Ouch...I broke mine a few years back playfighting with a guy a youth club.
Fun fact 1: The hospital waiting room was showing Eastenders and Holby City. Just what you want to watch ^^
Fun fact 2: The doctor said I was the first person he'd ever seen who'd broken it in two places...

What I found most annoying was eating...it's impossible to use a knife and fork properly with one arm. Bite size food is the way to go. Also, changing your top is a nightmare. Very very painful. (You try and change your top without moving your shoulder...)

I'm sure you'll figure out how to play GW one handed in no time :P I mean, if I managed to play tag a week after I'd broken it....(run, ow, run, ow, tag, ow, run...)

Actually the second thing I did today was rig my laptop with power cord etc. to work on the couch.

Typing one-handed however takes some practice^^

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

I've never broken a bone (milk ftw!).

But my brother has broken both heel bones when he was racing ATVs. And this was real racing too, but what he did was go up a jump and then landed on the uphill of the next hill.

Very painful for him.

in 9 years of playing rugby ive never broken any of my bones. i broken someone elses by landing on them lol.

my mate broke his nose 3 times this season by playing rugby.

And last season one of my team mates got his hip dislocated, that was not nice to hear sent shivers down my spine coz he was screaming for about 5mins (still makes me cringe just thinking about it) he was in hospital for one month then at home for mouth and a half and not aloud to walk unaided. luckly his fine now and back playing.

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

Owwww!! I hear clavicle breaks can be the worse.

When I was 2 I was with my mom and two aunts, one of them were looking at purchasing a trailer. I was walking around not paying attention, and walked backwards out a door and *SMACK* onto the concrete below; broke my arm. Weird thing is, I actually remember all of it, but I cried more at the ER cause they wouldn't let my mom in the room as they were putting on the cast.

I broke/cracked/bruised (not sure which it was) my ribs on my left side playing (Am.) football. Every time I took a breath I wanted to cry because of the pain. I never went to the doctor over it, but that side has a soreness to it still, 10 yrs. later, but it's not uncomfy.

My younger brother broke his arm riding his bike.....by hitting a dog. Yes, the dog was fine, but he flew over the handlebars and ended up with a compound fracture.

We were "hillbilly sledding" one year and my brother smacked into a cedar tree and broke his leg; he had to have screws and rods in his leg. Weird thing is, he hit a wicked growth spurt. Even weirder, it was less than a week before Sonny Bono was killed...by hitting a tree.

Good luck with the healing, and maybe you can set up your keyboard with shortcuts for GW; left side of the keyboard ftw!! Get well!!

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

Four years ago I broke both the Ulna and Radius in my left arm, the Radius was fractured at the wrist and still hasn't healed. I'm getting the cartilage taken out this summer.

Also, I do martial arts and have come down on my left ankle so that it made a complete 90 degree angle with my leg more than once, shredding all of the ligaments. I'm getting part of my hamstring taken out this summer also so that it can be put into my ankle.

This will not be a fun summer :(

RE: Broken Collar-Bone...

That had to hurt......collar bones are one of the worst to break because theres not a whole lot they can do to stop you from moving your arm....unlike breaking an arm where they can just cast it.

I personally have had 2 broken bones and a deep laceration.

Cant remember how old I was, but I suppose it was around 5th grade or so, anyway, I jump off a swing, and landed on my backside, trying to lessen the fall by catching myself with my arms. Broke my left wrist, it was an impact break, and hurt like hell(I was young and it was the first time I had broken a bone), though I managed to not say anything to the teachers until after recess was over.....luckily my mom was driving past my school when they called her.

Then, 2 years later, in 7th grade, I was playing basketball and a kid twice my size purposely ran into me, knocking my down, and breaking my right arm the same way my left was broken. But this time, it broke the bone around the growth plate in my wrist. They thought of doing surgery but decided not to, and now, 6-7 years later, I don't have full range of motion in my right hand....if your hands are out in front of you, you can turn them 180 degree's....my left hand is fine, but my right hand I can turn about 170 degree's. Funny thing about this one is I didn't need to say "I think its broken" I told the doctors I know its broken, and sure enough, after the x-ray, it was broken. :P

Ok, now to the best/most painful one. I was at a boyscout pool party......having fun, running around, the usual.(this was between the two breaks, btw) I was running around the pool, slipped and fell.....my right leg went into the pool, and the pool had jagged decorative rocks around the sides. I pull my foot out of the water...and I saw this horrible gash on my foot....I stood up, started running towards the parents(my mom was there too) screaming, and the blood started gushing out. One of the fathers there grabbed some towns and wrapped them around my foot, carried me to my moms car and hopped in the back, holding the towels on my foot while my mom called my dad to meet us at the gas station. We got there, the other father jumped out while my dad got in to take over, and off to the family doctor we went.(didn't know where the hospital was) We got there, and all they could do was clean it, they couldn't stitch it. Now, here comes the worse part.....to clean it, they put a bucket under my foot, and poured an entire bottle of peroxide on my foot, into a cut that was about an inch deep, and about 3 inches long. After that, they gave us directions to the hospital, so off we went and finally by around 8PM, we had my foot stitched up....took like 20 some stitches. Worse part is they thought it would require surgery because it was so deep you could see the tendon.....but after examining it, no damage was done(luckily), they came to the conclusion it had ripped open more then the initial cut when I was running on it. Then, once it "healed" we went to get the stitches taken out....as soon as they were removed it started opening up again......so they wrapped it up and put it in a cast for a few weeks. Best part out of all that is I got to miss like the last 2 weeks of school. Oh, and to this day, I still have a massive scar on my foot, about 2 inches long(it shrunk some since it healed), and right on the bend of my foot.(forgot to mention the cut was right on the inner bend of my foot)
