You should start with Prophecies because it is the first and IMO the best one. It gives a great introduction to the game.

WELCOME TO GAMEAMP!!!...AND GUILD WARS! If you want a full summary on Guild Wars then get Nightfall or Propchies. Factions is like, get to level 20 as fast as you can to do the real storyline. But I'd suggest Propchies because theres a lot of referance to Propchies and Factions in Nightfall. But tis your choice entirely
It would be great if some people's lives actually went beyond the Internet...

I'd go with prophecies.. as its the best of the three games, IMO it gives a great introduction to the game and how it works.
I wouldnt suggest factions as its very fast paced and rushes through alot of things.
Nightfall throws alot of new things at you, and it would be better to already have a grasp on the game before you get this one.
so Prophecies-Nightfall-Factions.[/B]

ive played all three. and heres MY summary on each one:
prophesies:
massive landscape. are arent forced to level up to 2 in a few missions, hell, you odnt get to level 20 until 3/4 the way through the game. the entire time the story is evolving right around you. the scenery is constantly changing. you go from scroched battle groupnd, to the high snowy mountains, to a jungle, over to a dessert and then end up on some volcanic islands. theres so much to do it will consume 100+ hours in just pve.
factions:
baicly, lvl to 20 as fast as posible. go through the ugly hirrid slums of the city. then choose either the ok looking luxon side, or the germanish kurzik side. onec your done your questing you have alliance battles. but whichever side you choose, be prepared to grind for fation, for you need it to progress.
nightfall: think, africana. while your goal is to get to 20 before leaving the island, it is a bit slower then factions. thought the beginers island the second time through is just,.,,,blah... sometimes going through certain missions will become a pain in the arse, but just keep doing them and youll get through. theres a great end game area called domain of anguish, which is for hard(er) pve, with great drops to boot. there really isnt any big greenery in the game, but the classes make up for it. literaly watch the game fall into darkness.
ratings:
prophesies: 9.5
factions: 6.5
nightfall: 8
you WILL get the most out of prophesies though. alliacne battles are the shiznit. and for great loot, doa is a great place to go

Most people that dislike factions havnt gotten far in it. I personally love factions. The first part in the city around kaening center sucks. Once you get to Luxon and Kurzik territory it's AMAZINGLY fun. So don't let Factions decieve you.

Indeed, Factions brings back some enjoyable (and freaking difficult) times. One of my favorite missions is in Factions. Vizunah Square where it's like a gang fight. That mission is so damn cool where things go vwoosh and monsters go booom and powers pew pew and...
>_> Yeah, it's pretty cool. It's a pretty good place to use leveling scrolls in case you haven't reached lvl 20 yet.

Many of us like prophecies most because it was the 1st game we bought. Plus it has the most varied scenery(nightfall is ugly looking to me), lots of varied enemies, and a go at your ow pace story line. The only complaints I have about it are
1.) Takes a bit to level up
2.) Prince Rurik is annoying as hell but it will be worth putting up with him. Those who have beat proph will understand what I mean.
3.)The 15 attribute point quests are a pain to get to. One is in thsouthern part of the desert and the other is righ in the middle of the shiverpeaks.
Now Factions, what can I say about factions that hasn't been said already. Game is fast paced. Kaineng City(place after island) is horribly ugly. The afflicted are substandard enemies. The portal blocked zones are annoying. And the getting the 10k faction for the kurzicks/luxons is annoying bc you have to do it for every character. And the story line is to predictable imo. You know who the last boss is by the end of the 2nd mission. But there are some good points like Fort aspenwood(competetive mission), Alliance Battles, and the kurzick/luxon scenery is cool. Plus you can do elite missions.
And finally Nightfall. This one is a mixed blessing to me. 1st the good points. Nice Storyline, cool endgame area(Realm of Torment), the domain of anguish, Treasure chests(chests that dont need keys), and lots of unique items and skills. Now for the bad parts. The classes aren't that great to me. The paragon might be great for support but generally people dont set up for support. The dervishes I just find to be a hybrid monk tank with lots of enchantments. They are fun to kill in PvP though because you can be certain that 90% of the time they will have a enchantment or 2 or 5 on there skillbar, which allows for enemies designed to destroy enchanters to wreak havoc. The beginning of the game is just TO slowpaced and boring for me, plus it feels really bloated because it has to compromise info of the other 2 campaigns and new stuff. And finally I find the scenery to be dull and boring. WAY to many shades of brown for me.
and thats pretty much it.
go with prophecies then nightfall then factions. or Prophecies -> GW:EN -> NF -> Factions

I would highly recommend Nightfall as the one to get. It is essentially the total package and is the only one of the three that includes heroes which would be excellent to have leveled and ready should you decide to purchase other parts of the game.
Keep in mind too that Nightfall is the newest game of the three and as such will be the easiest to find groups for missions and quests. A game like prophecies would be a struggle to find groups for missions by comparison and it doesn't offer the heroes to fill in those much needed healer gaps.

i would have to disagree with above statement. only in certain missions will finding a party be hard. (hell's precpice ect) but most of the time, if you are something like a nuker or monk, you will generally be able to get a group. if you are a mesmer, or tank, later mission might be harder to get, because people do not appreciate mesmers, and there are usually to many "Tank lfg" :P but Prophecies is the way to go if you are starting, heck if u are on American servers, ill join ya.. just when you get the game, my IGN is Arabian Battle Axe, ill gladly join ya. Tip... be sure to try all the secondary professions b4 you choose what you want... makes life a little easier. (when you get the game, you will understand..easier to lvl up)

i would say prophecies because it is just plain cool. i really like it because it takes awhile for u to get lvl 20 so its really exciting when u get up close to it. but in factions and nightfall hugh nerds can get lvl 20 in like a day but whats the fun in that. i think it is more fun to build up and work for lvl 20 instead of having it handed to u from easy quest that give a ton of exp. so imo it means more to get lvl 20 in prophecies. prophecies also has some of the coolest scenerey. no im not saying factions and nightfall dont i mean ive never been to the kurzick or luxons land but ive seen ss and it looks cool and some of the deserty jungles are cool in nightfall but in prophecies the scenery is absolutly awesome from the first min. u play. i also think prophecies gives u a better understanding of how to make effective builds because you have more time to test on easier opponents unlike factions were u can get lvl 20 useing basic skills and then when u get to the mainland ur up against alot of lvl 20+ and basic skills dont work so well and u wont know what to do because your build worked on lvl 10s but not lvl 20s. so if u ask me prophecies is the best for beginners. i think pre seering is a better begginer world then the islands of istan and shing jea so u will start off on the right foot. sure you wont get lvl 20 in a day(thats no fun anyways) or you wont have heros but i think heros have completely ruined PUGs(groups of random people in an outpost) but you will have the best of the 3 games so get prophecies.

I personally enjoyed the three but as few people there, i enjoyed Factions a lot!
Prophecies was a great part of fun too because it's the first i bought.
I'd suggest you to buy them in order they came out.
That's what i did, always waiting for the other to come out, then play it!
So: Prophecies (best intro to the game imo)-> Factions (luxon and kurzicks sides are awesome as well as AB) then Nighfall ( a fun chapter but got quite bored of the africa-desert style)
Hope it helps
-ChaOs Himself
Album Of The Year IMO

i'd start out with prophecies because its just that beast(plus it's a great foothold for the whole guild wars series)
then if you want you can get factions or nightfall but IMO get factions cuz a: u get sins PWNAGE b: minion masters become more masterful and c: if you get nightfall you'll probably have no idea who shiro tagachi is when they talk about him
in the building process

I've always liked Prince Rurik. For those that played Ocarina of Time, you can relate. I'm guessing you hated Navi, but when Majora's Mask came out you were BEGGING to relive those times. *sighs, wishestoplayOOTagain*

Welcome to GameAmp! I would go with prophecies as it is the original and personally my favorite one (more things to do too) but Factions is also greats except for locked gates and I don't have Nightfall so I can't say for that one

I'd say go for prophecies because in my opinion it's the best guild wars game. You don't lvl up at the sped of light, much more variety of scenery, and best story line, hell they r making ANOTHER expansion just to finish off prophecies hehe. But it's your choice in which u get.
And It's Me Luigi this is just awsome

I just started playing GW a few months ago, so I know what your going through, because I had to make the same decision. I chose Proph, and have never once regretted that desicion.
Go with proph first. Since you don't lvl at extremely fast, you get to know how to play your character, that way your not a noob at lvl 20 (hopefully, seen my fair share). Plus, proph is just massive, with lots of different enviroments. Also, it has the most quests that give you skills, this will save you a lot of money.
Edit: Another great thing is, is that if you buy the Game of the Year version of Proph, it starts you off with some really good weapons and focus items. All you have to do is type /bonus at any point during a town and you get them. This help tremendously during the beginning of the game, because you can deal a lot of dmg early. And if you are one of those people who likes to earn everything you simply don't have to use the items. But they are always availible as an option.
After I beat proph, I bought NF, because I mainly do pve, so with Domain of Anguish and Dervish/Peragons it's a lot more pve based. Plus you get heros, which in my opinion scream pve.
If you want to pvp more, than get factions. It's pretty much fully pvp based from what I've heard. I don't have it, so I'm just going on what people have told me.
Also, the best advice I can give you, is get in a guild early, and tell them that you just bought GW. It will help tremendously. This was something that I neglected to do for my first month of playing, and it was really boring, and hard to get the hang of everything. A good guild will really help you learn how to play all the classes.
Hope you have a fun of time with guildwars as all of us have.
