New Megadeth

For any of you fellow Metal-Heads out there, Megadeth has released their new album "United Abominations". It's most assuredly a return to the more "old School" Megadeth. If you're into this style of music I recommend it, I'm lovin this CD!

I'd love to hear from any Ampers who've heard this CD, or if you're just into metal. I'm always looking for new bands to check out.

RE: New Megadeth

Although I have no interest in Megadeth, I do like metal, so I thought I'd pop my head up. I am currently obsessed with The Dillinger Escape Plan; I have listened to their album Calculating Infinity over and over recently.

Tool, by the way, are also brilliant. I'm not so sure about A Perfect Circle, their side project, but other than that they are a great example of prog metal. They helped define the genre along with Fate's Warning and Dream Theater. Anyway, how could any band that displays such an influence from King Crimson fail to be anything less?

RE: New Megadeth

I just looked into Wolfmother's site and I have to say it's very "Classic Rock" which is not a bad thing at all, I'm pretty impressed with how they've pulled it off actually. Most bands that try to reach back to the power trio sound just ham-fist it and after one hit they dry up, Wolfmother will be around for awhile, thanks for the heads up on them Chuck & Big.

If anyone out there is wondering about the female vocals on A Tout Le Monde 2007, it's Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil, a band I've been listening to since I saw them open for Anthrax in 03' very cool sound give em' a shot.

RE: New Megadeth

I used to be a huge Megadeth fan but their last few albums have left a bad taste in my mouth. Everyone one of them was supposed to be a "return to the old ways" but, IMO, they weren't. So, in all honesty....I probably won't even give it a listen.

Some bands that I'm really into:

Opeth
Candiria
Materia (Russian Hard-core metal band)
Meshuggah
Porcupine Tree
Sinister Moustache
Death (R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner)
Cynic (the new song is so awesome)

There are more but it would take a few pages to list them all, just figured I'd trow out the ones that stay in my CD player the most.

RE: New Megadeth

New Megadeth you say? Might give it a listen being a more old school metalhead. Still love listening to Iron Maiden albums. Although, their recent stuff isnt much to get pumped about. Always liked Tool, older Korn, Perfect Circle, old Metallica (pre-Black anyone?), and a few others. But to be honest, I havent listened to many albums as of late, I need to dig my CDs out to pop in the truck on the way to work.

I was a little let down by them honestly, I grew up with three older brothers who were really into them and naturally I came to love them, then on my 19th birthday (eons ago) I went to the Ice Palace in Tampa to see them and 7dust opened for them and 7dust was freaking awesome (at the time just kinda entering the music scene) but Metallica left a really bad taste in my mouth after that show - crappy performance, didn't seem to have much stage prescence at all - i was kinda crushed, cause here was this band that myself and my older brothers idolized for years on vinyl and tapes and live they sucked. Haven't listened to one of their albums since, still have all the older stuff but it don't get much play in my stereo anymore.

anywho, i will have to give a listen to the new MD, and i guess Wolf Mother (my friends have been telling me to check them out for some time)

Stupid question: Has anyone heard whether or not Rage is back together or not? I thought i heard something like that on the radio but I might have just been dreaming. They need to get back together cause Audio "Cheese" is kiling me. seem to turn off the radio everytime the station plays them.

Opeth, Meshuggah and Porcupine Tree are all favourites of mine too. I guess, perhaps wrongly, that you have got into Porcupine Tree with their more recent, more metallic albums but their earlier stuff is really, really worth listening to as well. I am seeing them live in my hometown this autumn, by the way!

Though I am a fan of Meshuggah, I do stop and think sometimes while listening sometimes: "Wait a minute... They're only playing the one note!" Its amazing the way they make it work, and boy do they.

RE: New Megadeth

After listening to the album a few times, I'm sorry to say that its a hell of a lot weaker than their other material. Not saying that its bad but.. its just more of the same really.
