| Random Arenas - Suggestion |
|
|
|
Ok random arenas.
Why is that probably 50% of the time I go into random arenas I get a rager, and very rarely after a rager does my team actually stay. People rage for the most stupid reasons as well. Earlier on a monk raged because the ele didn't pick up the flag at the start...
Let me explain to people what Random Arenas, as the name suggests it is an arena where you will be placed with a random (3 different players based on a system of chance and luck) assortment of players. So what are the possibilities when you enter Random arenas what are the random factors that can occur:
1.Random player skill
2.Random player class
3.Random player skills.
So we can have poeple of all different skill types, of any class and with any skill set up in our team. Everybody who enters Random Arenas knows this.
I understand that it can be annoying, when after 15 enters you fail to get a team with a healer and every team you face has a healer. Boy do I know that feeling. However not having a healer is not always a problem I'm at 7 consec because I've got one of those great teams with average shutdown and insane pressure.
However Raging in RA needs a fix. I think that if ANet could implement something that meant that if you left RA through the use of map travel you were unable to enter RA for 10minutes afterwards. This would stop people raging RA just to get a better team. If people HAD to go GvG or do something with their guild it wouldn't matter still as they could leave as i agree Guild Stuff > RA and their 10 minutes would be up before they returned to RA.
Additional suggestions, opinions etc. Much appreciated. Please no open flaming and anything using excessive chat speak will be ignored ^ ^

Not all have friends or are as good to play succesfully in TA so they come to RA and rage quit as long as they get a decent team to earn glad points.

I totally agree with Leprechaun.
| QUOTE | | Earlier on a monk raged because the ele didn't pick up the flag at the start... |
lol i've not reached that extremele level of raging yet :>
if anet wud ever imply such a system to prevent rage quitters...then..they would think of something new, possible leech or just do nothing. that cannot be stopped, just wastes people's time that try to get glad points..
but anyways, i don't think anet can do this because people might error out, really need to go afk or even leave, and anet sure wouldn't punish innocent people, don't you think?
yes random arena is random, so? i want my glad points...if i dont have a good team i'm outta here, why? IMO i think winning= fun, losing=not fun...people come play RA to earn easy glad points, altho TA might be easier at certain times, but u can't make them NOT rage by whispering them nasty stuff or reporting..
so yeh...world aint fair

If you needed to go afk? If you had to go afk for so long that it mattered your 10 minutes would be up anyway. If you had to go afk quickly you'd just have to say afk 2 mins or something like that in team chat, if your afk or have left the party wheres the difference? At least if the match is close and you return you could win it.
If someone NEEDED to leave what possible reason could there be for that, that would take less than 10 minutes? There house is on fire? Dinner is ready? They have a burgular, anything that would mean you NEEDED (need is such a strong word) would take more than 10 minutes. Correct me if I'm wrong.
And how often do you error out where you can't reconnect, I have the most temperemental internet in the world (if the phone rings for about 5 seconds I don't pick it up my net crashes, and I've replaced all the DSL filters etc etc. I can reconnect every time, errors are very rare and the timing is only 10minutes)
| QUOTE |
so yeh...world aint fair
|
Yeh, the world aint fair, but that doesn't mean we can't try and make it fairer. Life aint fair is the most pathetic argument ever.
Also 10 minutes is not that long at all realy, if you went downstairs got a drink and a snack, came back up looked at these forums your time would already be up if you happened to get a full error. And couldn't reconnect. 10 minutes is long enough though to stop the people who like you and leprechaun seem to be, who just rage RA until they get a "perfect" team.
It's not even like that 2 minute match with your team is gonna be that terrible. You might even get some faction, and if your losing terribly you'll lose fast, if your winning well there you go, have some faction.
| QUOTE |
but u can't make them NOT rage by whispering them nasty stuff or reporting.. |
TaDA. My point exactly, you can't STOP people raging, so why not sanction them for doing so. I think there would be ALOT less raging if people knew that if they did they would have a 10 minute downtime.
| QUOTE | | yes random arena is random, so? i want my glad points...if i dont have a good team i'm outta here, why? IMO i think winning= fun, losing=not fun...people come play RA to earn easy glad points |
If you want easy glad points learn to play a real build, or learn to be a great monk. If you play a good solid build and learn how to play it well, you will still get plenty of glad points without raging over and over again to get in a good team. If you can play monk well, well then all I can say is gg, if you are a good monk you should be able to get an average team that will roll anyone.
*Update* Btw. That team I was at 7 with ended up getting 10 Consec, when you first saw them you would have raged by the sound of it golden, this is the biggest problem noone gives non-"good" teams a chance.

I have to agree with the 10 minute thing... I usually play a rather abnormal ranger build in RA that, so far, has served me pretty well. But it's annoying when you can't get a group because all the "1337" players rage quit before they even see what you're capable of. Hey, I'd never want to play on the same side as a rage quitter, but I would have at least made the best of it.
and they could make it so it only disables the arena for 10 minutes if you map out, rather than log out. That way disconnects wouldn't be punished, and if you really have to rage quit(for medical reasons), you still can, but you'd just have to log out and back into the game.
All in all, some people just take this game too seriously. They should relax, play the game, and not be so focused on getting their precious gladiator points that they make the game miserable for everyone else.

Yeah it really sucks some times. I've join a group and a person took 10 seconds to load and one person lol thats just too long so he raged because he thought he left. 5 seconds later the other guy joined and raged. next guy did too and as for me... LEERRRROOOYYY JENNNNKIIIIINNNNSSS!!!!!
I especially hate when you get in a battle and the computer rages someone for you (only 3 ppl show up total). they all rage and.....CHARGE!
Its all because they only want quick glad points and mostly the monk rages because they are high ranked so they kno the ticket to a glad point is monking for a good high pressure team. If they see that its 3 warriors and one puts up mending...he leaves
Studies show that 92% of teens listen to rap. If you are part of the 8% that listens to real music the add this to your signature.

Leprechaun can you please read my posts?
I said if you have an average team you *should* be able to roll everyone. Nowhere in that did I say if you are a good monk you will ALWAYS win instantly and totally pwn everyone in a matter of seconds.
Even logging in and out should not be allowed because if you were to allow this people would just log as if you have a good connection you could relog in less than the time a match takes, however if you did HAVE to leave for a medical reason it would probably take more than 10 minutes anyway.
Also anybody who wants glad points enough should easily be able to find a guild they can TA with or join a goodish group in TA, I agree TA isn't easy but if you want a perfect group and you are so *amazing* as to be able to deserve glad points rolling in, you should manage to find other players of your skill in TA who can roll everyone, and if your not good enough to win in TA, then you deserve to have to play RA like any normal person and actually play and hope you get a good team, rather than raging over and over again until you get a team that is totally imbalanced against any other team you are likely to face.

Please can you actually point a reason out for this, rather than just sighing and not actually making a point. Also I wouldn't call 3 people "so many". Also so many people moaning about a penalty - too bad they can't think of a reasonable reason for their not to be one except for "Gief mi Glad Points plz" I know you didn't say that but thats really what your point overall has been.

I do agree with the cooldown part, some people really need that.
They should also then add a special effect like when they quit in RA, they leave a red-hot steamcloud with instead of damage numbers saying ''Cooling Off'' ^_^
Ok, thats a bit overboard and would most likely not prevent, but only make people leave more for the effect, but i still think a cooldown is for some people, needed.
And as for disconnects and AFK, well... that's too bad, you got worse situations, like your team dies just when a baddie drops an ecto 0_o

Ragequitting in random arena would be selfish and lame and again, just shows how selfcentered one can be.
Good suggestion Lup, i fully support this.
Random arena is called RANDOM arena for a reason, Gladiator points have lost their meanings due to these ragequitters and those that
have earned their points "legally" ((i dont consider leaving teams till you find a more capable team, playing fair) suffer.
I honestly hope Anet removes Gladiator points from RA forcing them to be obtained in Team Arena or implement this idea of Lup's so players actually lose or win with honor and pride and obtain
points through pure skill and teamwork other then rage quit and who has got the best bar and/or team.
If winning means so much to you that others have to suffer then you deserve 0 respect, 0 appreciation and 0 recognition, these people are amongst those who slowly kill GuildWars.

Exactly
I've been in many RA teams that lacked a monk or rit and would make any ragequitter quit but still won 10 in a row.
I myself have 29 Gladiator points and play when i can, im not too proud of these points though what im proud about is the fact
that i got it through pure skill and teamwork with other players unlike most ragequitters.
There are still some players out there i know have achieved these points in this way and may not have that many of them.
| QUOTE |

Nah, most of them are wiki/pvx build copying gladiator point hungry players with little to no skill who wouldnt find a doorknob on a door without comprehensive manuals but even then their reading capabilities are more then questionable. *is done bashing with facts*

How about instead of rage quitters getting a cool-down time, they lose a glad point for every time they quit. GW can detect whether you quit or d/c, so it shouldn't affect ppl who lag out.

'The moaners'? These people aren't moaners, they are the good, considerate people that are just trying to enjoy the game, and they are trying to think up a legitimate solution to a problem created by people like you. You might think the ends justify the means, but most people would have to disagree. Do you ever once stop and think about other people? Sure, you might enjoy winning more, and I think in general most people do. But by quitting before a match has even started you doom your own team to a loss, essentially forcing them all to quit as well. Didn't anyone ever teach you good sportsmanship when you were a kid? Frankly, I've seen a lot of posts you've made around here that just made me pity you. If that is what the pvp world does to a person, I think I might just stay out of it.

Well, this is my point exactly.
Do you enjoy aggravating people?
You haven't made a single point Golden that doesn't involve "I want glad points, but because I can't get them in TA I will rage in RA until I find a team that will get me a glad point"
Your single reason for not wanting this is that you might have to work for your glad points.
Btw. I would like to point out this isn't an entirely original concept I got the idea from WoW where if you leave a Battleground you get a debuff called deserter that does not allow you to enter again. However after RAing all morning I decided that ragers needed something to stop them from runing that everyone else.
Any suggestions on how to improve this suggestion would be much appreciated as I would like to post it in a more complete forums on some "official" forums soon. (Oooh I noticed Gameamp got official status, ignore me) I'll still probably most about so help is still appreciated.
| QUOTE | | If that is what the pvp world does to a person, I think I might just stay out of it. |
Please don't get think this is what the PvP world does to people more often than not it does it either to those already entirely arrogant in life and them performing well in PvP "confirms" their arrogance for them. Or it happens to the people who play gimmicks and "exploit" ways to get titles and then believe they own because of it - this is the case most of the time. Most people who earn their titles through hard work and dedication are some of the nicest most helpful players around.
I'm not going to say I've never ran a gimmick - I have ran very few as I find them boring and repetitive. But when I do play gimmicks and win, I normally mock myself for playing it rather than mocking others or believing i'm better because I can simply click a nice skill chain.

Good point Brynden. From my point-of-view the only "moaners" are the rage quitters. Not to mention, if one relies on others to gain said points, that shows a flaw in their skills as players. It's the players who try with a "not-so-perfect" team and earn their points who truly deserve the rank gained in RA imho.

You shouldn't have to write an essay explaining why you rage in RA, mainly because your only reason involves "I want glad points" so a whole essay on that would be rather boring to be truthful.
| QUOTE | | just what i wanted to say is that you are not archieveing any glad points with moaning and telling other people they don't deserve their points because they rage. |
I am not achieving any glad points through making this topic, surprisingly enough I do know that. But thanks for making sure. You see though, I'm not that fussed I'm not achieving glad points as that wasn't the original point of my topic. My topic wasn't titled "Ragers steal my glad points". The point of my topic is "Ragers Ruin RA for those who enjoy it"

How long on average does it take you to rage?
I'm gonna have to guess that you don't stay for the first 30 seconds. You therefore have NO right to comment on skill. Please don't go but the warrior was using mending. This is Random Arenas. The strangest most useless builds win here. It's why I love playing it. You can play the most weird build ever and it can own.
The objective of the game is fun. Winning is fun. Correct. However playing your best and beating 2 people by yourself in a losing team is also fun. I don't know what you like to play in RA but I enjoy ranger so I will use that as an example.
What makes RA fun is not just the winning its the catching those 3/4second casts. Its following that necro around the corner. It's interupting two res sigs then killing someone. Its all the cool little tricks that you pull off. Maybe if you actually played some games of RA you'd gain some skill (you'd be forced to) you'd enjoy it and people would respect you.

objective of game = fun
win = fun
noob team = lose = not win = not fun
rage in noob team = get in good team = win = fun
=D |
that means you just like 50% of the game. only the winning part..
IMO I cant stand leavers, and I think they shouldnt get a cooldown, but get kicked out of GW and get banned for 2 hours. 99% of my RA rounds was wasted time, because it was 2 vs 4 or 1 vs 2 or whatever.
If you want an organised team, go TA. Dont waste your time and other peoples time. its just lame.

I've been thinking of some cons to this as Golden my biggest opposer couldn't.
1.If you are in a team with 3 people dead and someone decides to noob run. This could be a little bit annoying.
2.Similar to the situation above however you've been in a match for 5/6 minutes and noones dying, you've reached that stalemate.
3.If you can see your team is inevitably going to die as you are 2 down and the enemy is at full health.
Well 3. is not too much of a problem as you should fall within 30 seconds of so, so not too much time wasted. The other 2 are bigger problems. The most simple solution I can see to this is adding some code which means that after 5 minutes of a match this effect becomes disabled or if 3 people are dead this effect becomes disabled.
However this could become incredibly difficult to code. I am not very good at programming so wouldn't be able to comment. It would ideally be best if they could code it so that whenever anybody left RA through map travel or logging or closing guild wars, other than in an error there was a ban, ofc. errors may have to be included.
The solution above is the best one I can see to noob runners, however you could also encourage people to use resign or have a 3 of 4 people need to resign rule active only in RA to prevent noob running, however this would not prevent stalemates. Most stalemates can be broken however through the use of a 4 man resign or eventually somoene just gets bored and stops playing.
Other suggestions to counteract this and downsides are appreciated. Tha Golden Warrior - I did what you should have done for you, made a real argument against it.

no..TA is extremely different from RA.there are a few groups around TA, with people glad rank6+ hero rank8+ that are extremely hard to win versus. there will be guild teams, with pressure and spikes that a monk can't heal you from, there will be always be a team that can totally devastate your team build. in RA it's not like that. if you find a great random team you will be recompensated with glad points.
just because i prefer winning than losing means i like 50% of the game? wow..that's new to me.
there's this saying..something like
the clever learn from other people's mistakes, the weak from their own
i like it.

1. if the noob runner is in my team? i either cheep him up IF the other team has something lame eg. toucher, 2 monks, wammos, or w/e. if he's on opposing team, and ur own team can't kill him, that means no snare, no degen, no interupt, no speed boost then it will most likely show that the team hasn't got the potential to get to 10 wins anyways.
2. has happened often to me. records are 90 minutes to 240 minutes. i'm that kind of person that would rather waste time to be able to prove that i will not resign and come out with victory even if my whoel team leaves. why? ask me something easier... well if it's 5 or 6 minutes which is totally normal fight for 2 good teams then, well, keep on trying till one goes down or wait untill people start leaving.
3. err..well, it means that the other team is better, which happens alot. then you just simply leave and have a new go.

Whos mistakes are you learning from?
Whats the mistake, that you can't win TA or that you can't play in a normal team in RA?
| QUOTE | | that are extremely hard to win versus. |
You got it in one, thats why it requires SKILL. Which you do have some of as you have 100 glad points from TA but obviously not enough if you cant practice and eventually win against these teams. I do know them and they are really really really hard to beat. But you just gotta keep trying.

I think your use of the word random is correct but not so, as the only reason your in it is you raged 12 times first to get there. And a good build should be able to learn from your mistakes as you put it and stop yourself being devastated by those teams.
Your only arguments involve I want free glad points, please can we have something new. Its like a semantic field of laziness reading your posts.

More laziness! Mainly because you don't have a point.

Well thanks for supporting me as this appears to not be a problem.

Cheep him up? - Can you clarify. Is this cheer.
If you can't catch him because hes designed as a noob runner :O But seriously noob runners are a pain in the ass. And most often can only survive on certain maps. But I'm not saying you can't catch him for ever but a "good" noob runner can easily survive for 3-4mins against some teams on certain maps. Anyway your only point in this is glad points not that ragers are bad. But thanks for arguing against the Cons put forward it makes my job easier ;)
