Check out Blizzard's latest announcement.....StarCraft 2.
Ok....First off, this is a huge announcement.....I have been waiting for the sequel to the original StarCraft for years now. I have been a fan of many Blizzard games, StarCraft, StarCraft: Broodwar(the expansion), Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, Most of the warcraft series(except World of Warcraft). Anyway, I cant wait to see what StarCraft II has in store for us, it will definantly be the next game I buy(at least out of the games that I am aware of right now).
So, who else here is a StarCraft fan and glad they are finally working on a 2nd one?
PS: Watch the cinematic on the starcraft 2 site, it shows how they get the marine suits on.

Looks like an expansion of the original with newer graphics. Hard to say if that's a bad thing or not given how good the original is. Thrilled to see they didn't make it an MMORPG though.

I agree, but the new features sound good enough to make it better then the original.
You have phase prisms which act like transports, but they can also change into a different mode where it can act as a temporary power source. Lets say they rush in and take out a pylon in the middle of a group of cannons, you can fly the phase prism into the middle, and turn it into a temporary pylon while you build a new pylon to replace the old one, so you can build a new pylon without losing your defenses....possibly stopping a full on assault.
BTW: I uploaded the video, but it said it will take some time before its viewable, so I'll hold off posting the link until it is. (my first youtube upload, lol)
EDIT: If you watch the art trailer, it shows some short in-game video....the protoss units seen here are shown walking up onto high ridges without having to use those ramps that often get congested by ground troops....they just walk right up onto it like its flat ground. :P

Diablo III would be cool, as we all know Diablo II was addicting as hell(I played it for around 4-5 years), but now that I am done with D2, I've never thought of going back to it. StarCraft I didnt play as much as D2, but I still to this day play it every now and then.

I agree, however they can't really change that much to the game itself, i mean, its a huge success due to each race and their technologies, weaknesses and strenghts, any tiny change can ruin the potential ''win'' factor. And we wouldn't want to have that now would we? ;)
I don't mind it comes with newer graphics though, think alot of people probably stopped playing in the end after their eyes we're just burned out, and now its coming in a higher resolution and finally can actually DEMAND power from your Videocard.

After finding not much info on the official site, I decided to surf the net a bit, and came up with this interview with the devs. Here's a link to it.
Here's a few things from the interview:
* The game is being developed for 4-5 years (right after Blizzard finished working on WC3).
* The gameplay on the video footages was set on "slow", hence the reason why some people thought it's "too slow".
* There will be no 4th faction, only the 3 original ones.
* Raynor, Kerrigan and Zeratul will appear in the game.
Also, when asked about their budget, they said "We don't really have a budget; we'll spend as much time and resources as we need to make this game great." Which to me, sounds like the Blizzard to its fullest.....they might not produce as many games as some other large companies, but every game they produce is usually the best of its class.
They also said the game is playable for all races, in multi-player, which means that 4-5 years they have been working on it, has pushed it rather far into development....meaning less time we should have to wait for it as most games are announced usually within a year or two of when they start work on it.

I've been waiting ever since I first beat the game for a sequel (including the expansion). I'm going crazy over this announcement! I already downloaded the two trailers they have and i'm waiting on the gameplay trailer being releasing tomarrow. The new units i've seen seem rather interesting but i'm quite upset to see that Warcraft is having a rather large influence on the game. The Stalkers "Blink" ability for example. I hope if they do make the two similar that SC2 will still be unique.

It might have some influence on it, but I doubt they gave them the ability strictly so it would be in the game. All units have new abilities.
For example, the zealots have this super-speed ability that, from what I've seen, auto-activates when moving towards enemies. Its rather cool, in the multiple gameplay videos on youtube, every time a zealot has to move to its new target, once its in range of lets say a marines gun, they move really fast towards them, closing the gap in less than a second. Which is really helpful as you usually lose a zealot or 2 before you even get in range of the marines.
And, through the gameplay videos on youtube, they unveiled the protoss Mothership. You can only have 1 at a time, and it has 3 abilities. One of them is a sort of time-shield, it puts up a dome around itself, and any enemy fire shot at the mothership in the dome, is literally stopped in its tracks, and after you disable the shield, the things that were stopped, fall to the ground. Much like when Neo stops bullets in the matrix series. Its second ability is like a massive AoE attack.....it takes so much energy that while using it, it lowers its shield so it takes more damage. But it kills anything under it in a matter of seconds, and you can move it around....so its a portable death-ray. Its 3rd ability, and the coolest of all(at least I think it is), is it can open a black hole. Basically anywhere you can see, and its strictly for anti-air.....when you open it, it starts sucking in enemy aircraft, which cannot escape it....once it sucks them all in, it just disappears.
Theres also marines with a sort of jump pack, that can move over multi-level terrain with ease.....but they are easily taken out by the guys who can teleport.
Some other cool things is the zerglings can mutate into suicide guys, spewing acid onto whatever they attack, the zerg tunnel things have now be transformed into giant worms.....reminded me somewhat of GW to be honest. And the giant protoss Colossus (yes thats what the unit is called), it can easily move over multi-level terrain, and it shoots these lasers out that sweep the battlefield, doing damage to any enemy it hits.....awesome for crowd control, but it useless against air. Another cool unit is another aircraft unit(forgot its name) that is designed for destroying heavily armored units, such as the Battle Cruisers. It shoots a continuous beam at them, doing more damage the longer the beam is active (kind of how Savanna Heat causes more damage the longer its active), makes quick work of the Battle Cruisers, BUT it gets owned by less armored things because it can only target single units, and must fire for something like 5 seconds minimum. Ok...enough about units for now....hopefully they will show more when they put up the trailer tomorrow. Last cool thing is when air units die over ramps n such, they roll down the ramps instead of just landing where they fall.

Though they never said its canceled, it was "indefinitely postponed"......I too would have loved StarCraft: Ghost.....it seemed like such an awesome game idea, but I don't think its going to happen.

Well I cant say I'm excited, honestly I would prefer the next Diablo game but I'll still get SC2 when it comes out cause I enjoyed the first one

They likely wont make another Diablo because of WoW. I mean, to make another Diablo, it would end up being a full fledged modern MMORPG with a fee and everything... and granted, they would still be getting thee, I don't think they're ready to let WoW start to go.
See, here's the logic:
WoW players see Diablo 3 and decide to play it instead.
But what if they don't like Diablo 3?
Sure some come back to WoW, but others, having broken their WoW dependancy simply quit Diablo 3, as well, and never return.
Think about it... with WoW having over 7 million subscribers, at about $15 a month, thats about $105 million a month. That means that WoW brings an income of about a $1.26 billion to the company each year.
They won't risk losing even the slightest amount of that... not for a long time. But, its also that income that is allowing them to make games like StarCraft 2, so its not all bad, just bad for Diablo fans, because even Blizzard isn't stupid enough to risk that.
Why bring a new MMO out when your current one ain't broke?
At least in their eyes, anyway...
