Hello folks, my name is Master Saji, or just Saji, if you prefer, and today, I'm here to tell you about Burning Dragons of Tyria's, AKA DRGN, future plans for Pink Day in LA (June 16th, 2007) which is to help raise breast cancer awareness.
First off, I'd like point out some small, but crucial facts about Breast Cancer;
Each year, 182,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 400 will die this year. Yes, men can also get breast cancer.
If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer exceeds 95%.
Now, like I said, we're doing this to raise awareness. "But October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, why in June?" Well, it's a little spontaneous, but the truth is you shouldn't have to wait for one month to help support to breast cancer awareness. We decided June 16th since school will be out and hopefully more people will be willing to help us and more importantly, one of our guild member's mother is a breast cancer survivor and June 16th is her birthday.
Anyway, the big day that this event will take place will be June 16th, 2007, and will be in Lion's Arch International District 1 (and 2 and 3 and so on if need be). Our goal is to get as many people to wear pink armor to show their support as we can in the LA international district. To do this, DRGN members will hand out 1 purple and 1 red dye (a general combo to make a pink-like color) to each person, who (or so we hope), will then dye his/her chest armor pink and join in the merriment.
We want to make Pink Day in LA as much of a success as possible. If you or your guild is interested in helping out, let us know! But the easiest, best, and most appreciated way for you to help is to be in LA on June 16th and either bring pink armor of your own or get pink dye from us, and join us in raising awareness of breast cancer. Expect things to get started around Noon EST.
*UPDATE*We're also starting to collect silver dyes since Red+Silver is another common mixture to get a pinkish color.
The event WILL start at NOON US EST (-4 UTC). When it will end, we cannot say.

Hopefully it will be an all-day thing. We're trying to setup officers to be on during certain times. But it most likely will happen around noon est

So are you just gunna sit around town? Maybe you guys should help out some people with quests and such while wearing your armor and tell them about breast cancer. Not only will they have pity for the victims but maybe they will feel like they have a personal relationship. Oh and unfortunately I cannot come because I am going to the grand prix in indianapolis that day. But I will mention it to guildies.

We were talking about that, and we haven't really come to a decision other then that we'll be announcing breast cancer awareness information and where to go for more info. So I can't say for certain, but I will mention it again to the officers and our leader.

i'll make every attempt to be there. my grandma died of cancer, it was not breast cancer but i watched it kill her twice.

Fireworks? Most likely not, this isn't a celebration. And for pink dye, it's different for each profession and armor, but try purple and red, maybe red and silver or white will work too.

Count me in, great idea! Now my only choice is which of my armor sets do I want to dye Pink? (I think I'll go with 15k Luxon)

you could form a picket-esque line...all line up or form a circle (or a heart shape?)
I would liek to join in too, but not sure if i'll be around My guild leader would do it, all her characters are pink!

We would like to do that, actually, very much, and hopefully we will if we get enough people there with pink armor.
And it most likely will be an odd-shaped heart or ribbon (I want to say a giant pair of pink breasts but this is a serious matter, so I say this as a side note lol)

How about a big, pink, breast cancer ribbon? Set it up in a spot where you can get a good screenie of it and send it off to Anet. Maybe they'll take this further (make a donation, etc.)?

i will be down for that...my mom died of breast cancer so anything that will support it is cool with me(sorry to bum you out :( )
i cant think of anything cool to say that would be alright with the forum

Well Pink has always been linked with being a feminine color.. A color for girls. And considering its usually women that suffer from breastcancer..
Ill try to be there. A great iniative! Thumbs up for the idea alone :D

You should really contact Anet about this. They may want to help out.
They could add some breast cancer facts to some NPCs for the day. Maybe some dialog telling people how to help, some charity info or something.
If nothing else, they may put a post about it on the web site.

My grandmother and aunt both are survivors, I will do my best to attend and will ensure my guildmates make an effort to come as well :-)

yeah, you know gaile gray is female and is purple armoured.......
also, @ the doubter:
the idea is not to actually DO anything bout it, but to raise awareness and maybe encourage people to go and donate to it. It's like saying, why do Fathers for justice dress up as superheroes and climb on stuff?
