Alchemy changes 05/25/07

This is some of the information I've researched out so far in the changes.

I'll be ammasing a list of some of the changes to Alchemy as I find them here. There are a few things I know already. There are some good things, and some things we will have to adjust for.

The forums are crying nerf. But I don't believe in nerfs. There are no nerfs, only players that cannot adjust to game changes. My goal has been, and always will be how to maximize the game as it stands. And that's all that I will address.

Elixir buffs: Due to the fact that gold buyers and high level characters were stacking multiple elixir buffs at a time, they have limited the number of Elixir buffs you can have at one time. I believe that it's one offensve, and one defensive. We will have to find out what qualifies as each.

You can only have one type of food buff, you can only have one kind of major Pali buff. This brings the Elixirs in line with the rest of the game features. It was being abused and made features like PvP unfair to regular players. This will reduce the cost of potions for everyone as we face plant through the learning parts of new instances. I knew this change was coming and was already testing out single Elixir rotations while we ran to conserve mats. We'll work on advise for the best, or favored Elixirs for situations.

Example: I like to use Adepts Elixir when we clear trash mobs to make it go faster, but prefer Elixir of Mastery for the boss fights for 2 reasons, the fights are longer and that potion assists my longevety, and the Adepts boosts my crit chance a little more and just draws unessassary attention to myself. I crit enough with my gear and build, and occasionally had to stop DPS'ing to let my threat drop back below the Tanks again. This will allow me to keep more steady DPS up.

Resistance Potion timers: They were reduced from an hour to two minutes. At least for the new bad ass ones we can make. I'll check on our older versions as well.

When was the last time that they lasted longer than the first major volley from the new bosses? With a little practice and timing we can overcome that change easily.

Now, the GOOD things:

Cauldrons! Woot! I'll give you an example of one.

Cauldron of Major Fire Protection
Requires Level 60
Use: Creates a cauldron that raid members can use to conjure a Major Fire Protection Potion.
Cauldron has 25 uses and lasts for 5 min.

Materials:
X2 Primal Fire
X7 Mana Thistle
X1 Fel Iron Casing

25 Fire resistance made one at a time cost 5 Primal Fire, and 15 Mana Thistle. This is a HUGE savings in Gold and/or farming time for the Alchemists.

The number of Major Protection pots you make at a time has also changed. When you craft them using 1X Primal, and 3X Mana Thistle, you get 5! These last two should take a lot of stress off the Alchemist's farming time requirements.

Mats for Health and Mana pots are switched. The Mana pots now use Dreaming Glory, and the Health pots use Netherbloom. We burn through WAY more mana pots than health in the raids. I have enough Dreaming glory to choke a horse right now, so there will be no shortage of them for me to sell on the AH and supply friends with.

OK, learned a little more already in how to determine which Elixirs can be used together, and which cannot. You can still stack them, just in lesser quantities.

The two classes I have found, and I think there will only be two are labeled thusly:

Guardian Elixirs
Battle Elixirs

To my knowledge we can have one of each on us at a time. I'll make sure that is true by testing it out myself tonight.

Flasks count as both Guardian and Battle Elixirs....... OUCHIE! Ah well, been playing for almost two years and still don't have a Flask recipie. But from the uber bonusses you get from them when you have them, and that they last for two hours even through death, they are still worth it.

One day I'll get enough rep ground out for them or get a lucky discovery.
