I am still confused about using magical stuff as I am just an oridnary dwarven ranger. Let's say a wand of ... whatever. Can I use it or not? Or a scroll - can I use it once or should I better give it to a wizard and stick to my bow? Anyone who can tell me in short what's up?

I used to play the pen and paper version of the game way back in the day so I am not sure how much the rules have changed but all these posts about the game are really peaking my interest again. This was a good topic that someone playing the game could probably jump in on and add some clarity too fairly easily. :)

I'm not sure if I can make this simple and complete at the same time.
For Wands, if you have a class that can cast the spell (now or when you are higher level), then it will let you use the wand if your total character levels are high enough to cast it.
An example will make more sense. Say you have a Ranger1/Fighter5/Wizard1
As a Ranger, you can cast Cure Light wounds at 4th lvl. Even though you are not a 4th lvl ranger, and can't cast any spells, the spell is on your spell list and therefor you can use the wand. Ranger don't get access to cure moderate wounds until 8th lvl, and even though it is on your spell list, you can't use the wand because your character level (total of all classes) is not 8 yet. With the 1 lvl of wizard you can use all wands a wizard could use that are 4th lvl spells or under, even though you are a 1st lvl wizard.
Failing that, you can also use the skill Use Magic Device. Each wand, scroll, and item that has a requirement (such as Pure Good Weapons which require you to be good aligned) have a number called the Difficulty. A 1st lvl wand typically has a difficulty of 20. if you try to use a wand that isn't on your spell list, such as Shield of Faith (Cleric spell) the game 'rolls a d20' and adds your UMD skill to it. If you match or exceed the difficulty, the wand works. Charisma modifies your UMD skill. If you fail it still uses a charge.

HI Riktor,
Welcome to this part of GameAmp and thanks for your great reply to the question. Even as someone not playing this game right now I found this to be informative. :)
