Is taunt worth Slotting and if so how many with what?

What I typically do with my taunt on my tanks is 1 recharge and 2 taunts. I'm not sure if thats the best way to slot it, but it seems to serve me well like that.

taunt is not a good power, do not pick it, if you do respec it out, it will only get you into trouble

You'd get in trouble if you don't take it. Perhaps this isn't the way everyone plays their tanks but I like to know that everything is attacking me because if not, they could be attacking a controller or defender. Which would get the whole team including myself into trouble. That is the point of the tank and it wouldn't get you into trouble because unlike scrappers or brutes the tank is designed to take such a beating. You are actually more likely to die if there are some things not attacking you, as if those some attack the defender or controller you will stop being healed or the baddies will stop being controlled as the squishies deal with them.

Anywho, I have mine 6 slotted: 3 recharge and 3 taunt duration. My tank is a tank through and through so my only purpose in life is gathering the mobs up and making them angry. Besides, I don't miss the slots elswhere.

Taunt is the utterly essential Tank power.
I slotted my taunt with 1 range, 1 recharge and 1 taunt.
Helps pull nasties off the squishies and onto my tank and keep em there.

Dude, delete your tanker if you do not get this taunt because your tanker will not really be a tanker.
The reason why you are givin that sky high HP and defense powers for your primary is to take and handle all the aggro and damage from foes so you can let the all the other archtypes do there things ( especially the blasters and controllers because they are squishy. )
Also, what easier way to get the attention of foes than have a taunt power like, well... Taunt.
So it's either Taunt or Delete your Tanker.

If you want to play in big teams, you NEED taunt.
In small teams of 2-4 player, you might can handle the aggro just with your gauntlet and attacking first, but only if your mates can take care of themself, being careful and all.
But you can't tank for a bigger team without it.
Mostly I just 2 slot it and go fine with it, but as I said, I'm not the heavy teamer.
I prefer small teams.

But IMO Dark-Claw never played a tank at all.
=P

Dark, did you take TAUNT with your scrapper??? that would be the only reason NOT to like it. Taunt is and great power in a tanker arsenal. Most if not all tanks can't wait for it and really don't feel complete w/o it.

I like "Taunt" (Confront) even with my Scrapper.
I don't tank with it, but in a little duo it saved me some teammates.
A red Freakshowtank can oneshot a Defender.
And a dead Defender doesn't defend my Scrapper.^^

I do not and havent had taunt on my 50 tank in a loooooooooong time. With a fire tank I don't need it. Slot taunts in fiery aura and Im good. Taunt tends to get too much agro for me. I don't normally have a problem generating agro without it. Generally, I figure its for the lessor tanks that can't hang with just their attacks (he he, sorry guys, just kidding). Seriously though, you get AOE's and keep an eye out for the lone guy running away to hit with a one on one and you can keep agro without it.

Yeah, a good Tank can hold aggro without Taunt if his DPS crew sucks, but I'd be peelin aggro off you like crazy if you were only using aura taunts.

I can actually see that on a Fire Tank though. The resistances in the primary are lower than the rest because they gave you DPS stuff. It could draw too much direct aggro from the wrong mob types.

It's the same concept I'm using my Elect/Elect Brute. Although it's not a direct comparison. Because the set is one of the few without a direct heal, I figure that the Lightning Field will be my taunt feature. The only difference is that I'll be a primary damage dealer tickin things off too.

I've been peelin aggro off Tanks for years. Even before some of the changes. A good DPS crew will know how to pull small ammounts of the mob off of the Tank and dispatch them before they become an issue. Sort of why I like Electric Blasters. The crowd control stuff I get helps me manage that.

If the Tank isn't using Taunt, then the rest of the team just needs to know it and use correct strategies for mob management. Just expect to get a lot of crap from any kind of PUG that you run. I know that I woudn't run with a non-taunt Tank that I didn't know, but there are several of my long standing SG members that I woudn't have a problem with it at all. And looking from that list of toons you have, I'd run in group with you for sure.

I'd say that not getting Taunt on a Tank would be something for the more seasoned veteran of Tanking. For the up and coming Tank, they should be getting it.
