| Hi all. I have some questions |

Hi all.Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum. I have been checking this game out for a while and it looks really good and unique for an MMO. Im considering getting it for my birthday in a few days and just had some questions. Firstly, do lots of people still play? Im very cautious about this because the last MMORPG fantasy game I bought was basically empty all the time, no matter what time I played. Game itself was really good but gave up due to lack of players. Also do you think it will run well on my system? Basic of my pc are pentium 4, WinXp, DirectX9, Geforce 6800 GS - 256 MB, Nvidia integrated. Basically im wondering if the game has issues with certain video cards, as some other MMO's do. I think thats all for now. If I have any other questions and let ya know. Anyway thanks for reading and sorry its so long. Any help would be much appretiated. Look forward to reading more topics in the forums and learning more about the game. Hopefully I'll be playing it soon. :)

Hello DesparateCry, welcome to GameAmp!
I think you are going to have the best birthday in years! COH is fantastic game! You definately won't regret playing it. I would recommend that if you buy a box try to get the Good vs Evil edition. It gives some silly extras and access to City of Villains at no extra cost.
The game is still pretty busy. Even at the crazy playing times I play it there are always enough people around to team up with. And since you were smart/lucky enough to ask at GameAmp you have the added bonus of being able to talk to all of us in game as well. Your hardware is no problem at all. I have played it happily on much worse equipment.

I agree with Phedre. You would be smart to get the Good vs. Evil box set which will include both games City of Heroes and City of Villains. there is just a single subion fee each month for both games. $15 a month in the US to play both games. If you just get City of Heroes it is still $15 a month. So why not get the ability to play both games.
There are still plenty of players out there, and a number of different servers to play on. You can have characters on all the different servers, and one of the great features is the ability to talk across the different servers.
You can join the Gameamp public channel and talk to anyone else that is a part of that channel, no matter what server they are on.
So when you log on, you can ask if anyone from this site is playing and ask questions or try to team up with them. Everyone here is very willing to help and answer any questions you might have. Just ask away. If we don't know the answer I am sure Bigspeer can make something up for you.

me again. Just wanted to say thanks heaps for replying so quickly! Sounds like an even better game now, with a great/friendly community and it clear now ppl still play the game. :). Just 1 more quick question (for now hehe). After installing the game, is it a really long process to update the game with all the patches, etc. Other MMO's Ive tried have taken 8 hours to update. I understand and am fine with the long updating process as they are MMO's but was just wondering the average time it would take. Thanks again guys :)

I am sure it is going to take some time. Of course it all depends on your download speed, and how old the installation CD is you will use. But you better count on a few hours. If it goes a lot faster, great! If not, no biggie.
And while it is downloading you could be browsing GameAmp and learn some of the treats of the game. Before you know it the patching is complete :)

Chiming in from the Dark Side, your resident Lord of Evil, Master of Destruction, Surveyor of Pain, etc., etc.
Great choice in a B-Day present. You won't be disappointed. Like the rest, Get the GvE Edition, not only does it give you both games, you get other goodies with it, like extra character slots. With just one game, you only get 8 slots per server, with GvE you'll get 12 slots per server.
As for the download, initially, it's going to take a while like Phe said, but once you're in, the other patches and/or new additions to the game (and the new material comes at no additional costs) usually only takes me 10-15 tops (much less in certain cases). So, you have to understand that you're downloading the game itself plus (depending on what version you purchase) 9 new installments of material, plus any other patch and/or fix that's been added/deleted from the game.
Once you're in, there is a chat channel where you can talk across servers and between both games. Both the Heroes and Villains have Villain groups you could join, to help enhance your playtime. Just rouse someone here or ingame for an invite....That Bigspeer guys seems to have all the in on that, for some strange reason....
You might want to read up on the ArchTypes (ATs) and Power selections, because the character creation piece could take you hours alone. Millions of combinations to choose from when you outfit your characters. Get some concepts already in your mind, run them accross the general population and we can help ya fine tune them into something enjoyable to play.
Anything else, pop on over to the Villain side of the house for a look see. We have some very different and unique ATs that you won't find on this side of the house. Again, with 12 character slots per server and there are 8-9 servers????? Well, you do the math on that one...almost an endless supply of options to try out. And you can find an Amper on every server as well. Just send a shout out and someone will answer.
Truimph, however, is the GA designated server. So that'll give you a good Home server to begin with, and can branch out when you feel ready.

Awesome! thanks for the info and advice. Man, im already heaps pumped up about it now! hehe. looks like its a 'must-have' for my b day. :) Yeh I'll definately have to check out the villain side of things. I imagine it would take me a very long time to create a character and stick with em. Im usually very bad with character creation in pretty much all rpg's. Even if I make a good character, I think, 'maybe I could create someone even better,'. this happens a lot and I ususally end up restarting the game 10 times atleast. lol. And this game seems to have to most customization options out of all of em! I figured the update process would take some time, so thats when I'll check up on all the info, etc. Thanks! :)

It is great if you have some ideas for costumes up front, because it usually takes me at least a half an hour to create a new character. I usually go through a number of possible options for each section of the costume.
I usually know up front what the initial powers will be, but the costume tends to slow me down. That is the fun part.
Although as I look through many of my heroes, I am pretty conservative with my choices.

yeh I definately do a bit of planning. Just checked out your heroes then. theres heaps! look great too. Best looking ones to me are swiss tanker and swiss glacier. Underboss looks pretty interesting too hehe ;) Hey do you have to be at a certain level on this site to have a signiture, or can you just create one whenever? Hope you guys dont mind all the random questions.

You can create one whenever you would like. It is found under your profile.
Click on the Account Information tab and scroll down to the box that says Signature.
Whatever you but in there will show up under you posts.
Pictures and links take a little extra work but there are some posts and guides to help you with that. Just let us know.

Here is a GUIDE by one of the former Staffers here that helps to explain how to get images in your signature.
You can type in that signature box whatever you want to show up in the signature.
But, if you want a small picture, like what many of us have, you could follow the instructions in the guide.
If you want someone to create a signature picture for you, I would talk to Bigspeer (another Staffer here). He has done a number of signatures for people here.

you can type text in the box. If you want a Picture, it has to be located in a website somewhere where it can be referenced by all. The easiest way of doing this is saving a Pic in your Image Gallery, then clicking on it, then right click it, go to properties and copy the LINK that's in there (not the link when you click on the picure, won't work that way, have to go to properties). Once you do that, go to your Sig section and hit the IMG button, it'll prompt you to type in the desired link, just paste your link, ok that, and it's a done deal as well.
If you want to put links in your Siggy, like the one I have, just go to whatever website you want linked, copy the address, on the Sig section hit the http:// button, follow the instructions. This time it will ask you if you want to give the link a name (like I did with the Death Fetish Link), once you do that, ok it, it's a done deal.
Catches to Siggys, if you start a post, the Sig will not show, any posts made after that, they will show. i.e., this post you made, the first one will never show a Sig, but if you made one now, the rest of your posts will automatically update with that Sig.

Hey now! You guys are hoggin all the new people! lol......
Well, they hit most of the highlights already, but welcome to the site! You'll find it easier to get stuff answered here than on the main forums, and easier to keep track of your questions. This crew is a bunch of junkies when it comes to helpin people out.
If you decide to roll up a Blaster you'll be sure to hear from me, but the wealth of experienced players here you should be able to get help with whatever archetype floats your boat! They all have their fun factor, so you should be able to find a Hero or Villain to suit your personality.
Your first hurdle to overcome will be the character creation screens. With the insane ammounts of customizations you can apply to your character, you will have a hard time settling on your look right off the bat. But when the first difficulty is too much selection...... the skys are terribly sunny after that!

My box came with a 14 day buddy trial key for both COH and Lineage II. But that was over two years ago. I guess it is still there. But if not, no worries, since you can get a trial key via MMORPG.COM Free Trial or even better Jorden Yen's Free Tial Invitation.
