It all depends on what you're asking and how you're asking it.
I mean, if you're asking for high levels to "help you level" it seems as though you're expecting to be powerleveled, which the general community is against.

AMEN!
...
Sorry, I do agree but is there really anything you can do about it? No matter what you do the noobs will be mocked untill they aren't noobs. You can try to broadcast something like "Don't mock noobs, please!" but then you might get some tells stating that your a noob. So all you can do is just help the noobs learn so they become non-noobs.

Very true. It is all in how they ask. I've been gone for 2 or 3 months and not 5 mins. after I logged on with my 36 scrapper I get a tell from a lvl 20 blaster asking if there is anyway he could join me. So I let him come along and find out he has only been playing for about a week. Still had no idea how some things worked. So I took the time to explain some things. Then I jumped on my 50 tank, gave him about 5 mill influence and helped him get his cape mission done and how/where to go to get his next costume slot. Then again just yesterday i get a tell from someone i've never met wanting to know if i'd give them 5 million so that they could buy a recipe for wings. They really really wanted wings. I had to tell them no, how do you just walk up and ask someone for 5 million? then they were like ok, how about 3 million? 2 million? I was new once just like everyone else, so i try to do my part to help out just like everyone else should. You shouldn't make fun of someone just because they are new to the game and don't understand everything yet. One day you might just be in a situation where you are in need of there services.

All depends on what your qualifying as a Superhero? Does that mean a certain level and up? If your level 4 I really wouldn't see any reason why you should be asking for help from anyone over a specific level. Most missions at that level are generally soloable, and if not it shouldn't be hard to find 1 or 2 people to tag along.
Unless you are seeking advice on your character. Maybe seeking out ideas for builds or whatnot. If your begging them for influence or power-leveling...after repeated no's then you brought it upon yourself. Besides that, if your a level 4 and wanting to run missions with....oh lets say +20 or higher.....I dont see how much help you can do. You have only a few attacks, barely any slots. You should be in your own level area and such doing your missions.

I agree with Grif and Ron it all depends on how you ask and the circumstances at hand. No one here that I have seen has been mocking noobs. Maybe Jerks in game might but never here. If you are just asking questions on how to do things or where to go than there is no excuse for anyone to be rude . If you are looking for guidance than I suggest joining the Gameamp Chat channel where you can pick our brains to no end on anything you could think of asking without getting mocked.
As for asking help with leveling you have to understand too that we don't say no to be mean. There are surrounding circumstances that a new lower level player might not be aware of. if you are say a level 4 asking a 50 for help or to join them there is always the no travel power hurdle. That means that if the 50 agrees to help you they have to somehow overcome that problem. Not everyone has teleport friend on their toon.
Another reason is that your missions will be to low to help on and neither of you would get xp. The 50's mission will be too high and you only have a limited number of powers and may not be able to help much and adding you to their team will increase the amount of baddies in thier mission and depending on the build of the person helping you they may not be able to handle the extra baddies even with your help.
Another reason might be that they could be playing or have missions in zones you cant get into due to your security level like Dark Astoria or Crey's folley.
It is always better to try to find teamates around your level to play because certain missions or story arcs that yeild badges might be missed if you play with members well above your level range. Not to mention you will mess up your contacts by not doing their missions.
Helping out others is always a good idea and I do wherever I can but sometimes like in the case of powerleveling someone to certain levels is detrimental to your character because you will level fast but not learn your powers well and that will make it hard for you to play on your own.
Don't get me wrong I am not defending people who are rude to new players I am just giving you some perspective of what might be going through the other players head when you ask for help or want to join their team.
Thanks to Death Fetish for this cool "siggy"

I'm probably gonna say some stuff that's been said, but bare with me.
First off, it's generally a good idea not to ask people for free money, especially if you don't know them. It's also best only to ask people within a certain level range (I personally feel that a 3 level range is good) of yourself to tag along on missions. If you're so far below them that you'd be useless even while Sidekicked, then you can't blame them for not having you along. I'm not accusing you of thinking this way, but keep in mind that asking someone for help and asking them to carry you the lazy way through your levels are two different things, and it's pretty easy to tell the difference most of the time.
One important note here is to suggest to exemplar or sidekick when needed, since people don't always remember those options when making a team.
Second, I always feel it's best to go through a game like this with minimal help (I don't count teaming with people within your levels as "help"), at least as your first toon in the case of this game. This way you'll learn what you need to learn and should develop different skills/strategies for different situations. Mistakes are one of the best ways to learn, after all. Just keep in mind that many others have gone through the game in this way, so there is a way.
Now, having said all that, I do agree that the general populace seem to have forgotten what it's like to be a noob, and are thus rather short-tempered with them. I agree with MadMadJester that people should try to help them when they can, and teach them when they can't.
Saying that, Gameamp is a great place to ask questoins and browse for info when you need questions answered. This is coming from someone who has asked his share of nooby questions. The people here are very patient and polite, and neer call any question you ask stupid or dumb or anything like that.
Hope this helps. ^^

A level 25 healer shouldn't have a lot of trouble finding teams his/her level.
The tank also shouldn't have a lot of trouble finding teams, or even soloing. I've soloed my current tank (Fire/Energy) from 1-13 in the last few days just running the starter missions and running scanner missions in Kings Row. It shouldn't be difficult at all to get some good experience.

Why shouold you be SK'd by someone higher? That is just laziness on your part. Lower levels are a breeze to go through just doing radio missions. There are plenty of
people your own level looking for team mates. I've done levels 1-10 in one day on a toon, and on average I can do the first 6 levels easily in one sitting. There is no need to bother higher level heroes with PLing you, which is what you are asking for. If you want to cheat your way to 50 don't look for sympathy here. It's one thing if you are in an SG with higher level toons and they do a team night, where the lower level guys are regularly SKd for the night, But to be begging others to SK and PL you far out of your level is ridiculous.

Thinking back...I dont think I ever had a problem being called a n00b, newb or what have you. But as I grew more experienced I did discover the nuisances of n00bs and newbies.
So I created an SG called 'The Academy' Where I would show new players the ropes...teaching them the basics and how to team. It was an experience let me tell you. I have since disband the SG on lack of recruitment(on my part) but the members remained in close contact. But I may start it back up again now that I'm considering leaving my other SG's.
look me up...Pinnacle server @Graboid.
This section is titled: 'Signature' Which is funny cause I really can't sign my name here...unless they mean like a signature phrase that I use often or something. If thats the case then...I say 'Hello' a lot, like everyday really. I say 'Goodbye' everyday too...but not nearly as often as I say Hello...which is weird cause you would think you would say goodbye just as much as you said hello because thats what you say after hello when you leave certain situations or conversations...Do you like bread?

It all depends on what the situation is. Generally speaking, CoX has a great community and folks are usually open to helping out if someone has questions about the game. Questions like "Where do I find CoT in Kings Row?", or "Why should I get Granite Armor?", or "Where can I find the Tailor?" typically find good responses (along with a few smart-ass ones, too.)
Requests that are looked down upon usually involve requests for leveling assistance (i.e. powerleveling) or requests for influence or salvage donations. Also, and this may be a little controversial, any requests or chat using poor spelling or grammar usually get a poor reception, as do any requests spammed incessantly either by tells or over broadcast channels.

All excellent points! Hey a question involving something that someone honestly needs a hand with is one thing , most of us will be glad to help out. But the annoying "Please PL me, I HAVE TO get to level 25 today" nonsense is ludicrous, and mor ethen a little aggravating.

I completely agree, and having two fifties has its downsides. Everytime I log on (and I'm sure you've all experienced that) I get tells saying "pl0x pl me i ned 2 lv" . Naturally, I love to help others and show them how the game works, but no one NEEDS to level... if you ask me, that is!

yes, I know the feeling. Many times I log on with one of my fifties to questions like that. Hey I got to fifty each time by myself, without any help. That's the goal of the game. I have no patience for some gamer who wants to take short cuts there. That's DEFINITELY someone I DO NOT want to team with.

ahh good times, good times, but not for me, i heard that teaming is the best way to level up right? (or sewers) so i asked for team to everyone i saw, no replies. some said No, some said sorry full team, but i asked a defender and he invited me, the guy that said that the team was full lied, there were 4 more slots open, i only asked like 1 minute after
now that i am in the 20's i Kinda get respect

Couple more points, having read more posts:
First, I agree with Solaronn's opinion that nobody *needs* to level or get money/salvage so bad that they pester people for it.
Secondly, as far as I know most people (myself included) don't care to make the difference between the two words, but this is for anyone who doesn't know yet:
newb: A new player, simple as that. No bad connotations associated, just a lack of knowledge due to lack of experience since they recently started playing the game.
noob, n00b: Players who, new to the game or not, lack any kind of teamwork or strategy, and are generally narrow-minded. They're also often times lazy, constantly pestering people for powerleveling, money, and/or salvage on any and every channel they feel they need to. In short, these are the people that give gamers a bad name, and are the bane of pretty much everyone around them. They generally try to make the game as easy as possible for themselves, often times making them unable to develop the kind of skills you would by actually experiencing the game the way it's "supposed" to be.
Now, an important point of noobs is that, although the majority of them use "1337 speak", there are well-spoken ones out there as well. By the same token, not everyone who uses "1337 speak" is a noob, so don't judge someone by that alone.
My third point is, if/when you do need to ask for help, or are requesting to join a team, try to be as polite as you can and use your best grammar. Otherwise, because of the high concentration of noobs that are rude people and people that use terrible grammar (which includes way too much "1337" speak), you'll most likely be labelled as a noob quicker then you can type 'lol'.
In these games communication is key, and if you don't do that well you're making it very hard on yourself and others. Try to put some effort into it. (not directed at anyone in particular, just general advice) =)
My last point is, I think, a very important one. When asking for help or a place in a team, take no for an answer the first time around. Just trust them that, for one reason or another, they don't want you (and therefore nobody else)on their team, and they have their own reasons. Respect that and move on.
Also, if they don't answer you the first time don't pester them. Ask once, maybe another time after that if they still don't answer. If you don't get a response after the 3rd time, they're either afk, or ignoring you for one reason or another. In either situation you shouldn't make a nuisance of yourself, just stop asking at this point and move on. Yes, ignoring people is in most cases rude, but it's not the end of the world so it's best not to dwell on it.

Here are my two cents on the matter (it may not even be that considering my EXTREMELY limited experience in-game)
Once upon a time, I was a Kinetics Defender. As soon as I got IR, I went straight to the Hollows entrance to help people out (I'd also go other places on occasion, such as Atlas and GC) I didn't quite grasp the game at that point, I hadn't bothered to learn much about it before starting my account. I would do countdowns for people to get to the gate, and a time or 2 I was accused of spamming. I don't remember clearly now, but I think it would escalate to a fight (I was broadcasting it, but it would go to tells after the person would tell me to quit spamming) I look back and shudder now because there were better ways I could have done it without being so annoying.
There were other moments in game as well which weren't my finest, I was a n00b in many senses of the word. Sometimes I don't know if being mean is the solution, just kinda pulling them aside (or, in the case of the game, sending a tell) and telling them how the game goes, what is liked and what isn't liked, etc. Of course there will be those who just don't care and just want to PL or get an exponential amount of influence by stealing from the 50s (and, in that case, I have to ask: why play the game?). There will also be those who just don't understand how the game goes but genuinely want to.
There are my two cents. Spare change anyone?
Cheers.

2 levels is fine. As I mentioned in an earlier post, what I consider a good level gap for a team is 3 levels between the highest and lowest person on the team. If it's any more then that I'd say someone should Sidekick to get the best results for the team.
That way nobody's leeching exp, and everyone's a big enough part of the team that they learn how to use their character and have fun doing it.

You know I had this one guy bugg me for i swear 2 hours he asked if anyone had a trapped soul gem and 10k he could trade for I asked him if he had enchanted imprivium he said no he follwed my toon around for 2 hours calling me every name in the book and some I've never heard before. Just cause I would not give him the salvage he needed and 10K finally I gave him the 10K just to leave me alone. I just hate beggers and jerks I should not have giving the money but the things he said was just outrageous and my son was about to play I could not have him saying things like that to my 8 year old.

This would be a perfect example of someone worthy of your ignore list, and a petition to the devs as well for griefing. They might not get the boot with a single incident, but if they start stacking up on the developer's list of complaints, they will get handled.
You also have ot keep in mind that some players are not interested in interacting with others at the time that they are on, don't even have broadcast or even local in their active chat windows. I keep local on mine, but not broadcast.
Where you put out feelers and who happens to be on at that time makes a difference.
I put a "Not Teaming" message in my team search window and only take it out when I want to get interested parties. Be sure to check the looking for group if you are looking for that kind of interaction. If my message says "Not Teaming" I won't reply to people asking to join my group or for me to join theirs.
As for asking for advise on your characters in game. That's going to be rough. Just depends on your server population. IMHO if you have any questions about builds, strategies and things along that nature, come here first. You would be suprised at how fast you can get answers to most technical questions here. There are a lotta CoH junkies here and a whole lot of on game experience to help you out.
