Well, I was quite excited about my latest experiment and wanted to let you all know about it. A successful solo of an AV! Not the EB version, but a full scale AV!
I have been having a lot of fun playing an Ill/Rad controller. I had heard stories about various toons being able to solo AV's back in the old days, before various power nerfs and ED. I wondered if it was still possible and figured if any toon could do it, it would be an Ill/Rad. I knew having Phantom Army up as much as possible would be key, as would cycling Lingering Radiation quickly. Then, with the timely introduction of IO's and set bonuses, I prepared my experiment.
I had tried to solo the Envoy of Shadow as an AV, but my toon wasn't ready. I didn't have the soltting quite right. Then, at level 41, I patiently made my way through the Countess Crey story arc. Finally, last mission, Bust the Countess and her Guards! Setting my difficulty slider on 'invincible', I waded in.
I tried the mission twice. Each time I got her down to below half of her 21,000+ hit points. Once I got her down to a third. Both times, during a lull in PA's recharge, she leveled her gaze on me and cut me down. I racked up quite a bit of debt, over 150,000 at its highest point. But I was encouraged by the progress I had made and was convinced it could be done.
The third time was the charm. I tweaked my PA slotting to maximize recharge. Armed with Hasten, Accelerate Metabolism, and a pocket full of purples for those dire emergencies, I entered the cave that housed the vicious monster. The slotting made a lot of difference, as did the 32% IO set bonuses to accuracy, and 11.25% to recharge that I had accumulated. Her health slowly ebbed downward. I was smarter this time, staying out of range of her sleeps. She hit me with psychic bolts a few times, but nothing serious. At about 10,000 hit points, she seemed to toughen up a bit and wavered in that range for many minutes. Finally, losing patience, I altered the experiment a bit and blew my Warwolf Whistle. It was just the edge I needed. A few minutes later, down she went.
Very exciting mission. It took about 30 minutes to take her down, but well worth it. I had been expecting a major reward, but unfortunately all I got was an SO enhancement, a standard IO recipe, and about 50,000 xp (half of which went toward debt!).

Man this gives me hope that my Illusion/Storm controller will someday be able to take down an AV solo. Right now with my Phantom Army, Phantasm (and its decoy), Snow storm, and freezing rain, all slotted with heavy damage and holds, I can take down most bosses easily.
Also, after doing the math I realized how powerful those Invention Enhancements are once you start combining 2 or 3 of them.

Congratulations on your solo kill of an Arch-villain.
Still, you did cheat a bit with your Warwolf Whistle.

I know. I almost hated to use it. I like to hoard my temp powers and it was too much of a temptation in this case. Wolfie was great. I half expected the Countess to cut him down in 2 seconds, but he held up well for the entire fight, only needing me to heal him a few times. In my defense, I did manage to hold off the temptation of summoning Amy or my Snowbeast! :)

Humph,
Then I must cheat a lot. Whimcycle soloed all the Prat AV. If you count being solo with a PA, a Phantasm, Spectral Terror and my old pal, the Shivan. Though I've noticed the Shivan's been nerfed a bit in I-9. I had my 27th Ill/Empath controller toss one at the Kraken the other day and it hardly put a dent into it. Pre I-9 the Kraken would have been sprawed out in two minutes max.
Ran into the same thing with some EB when Sexykiller tried to finish the Faultline storyline. The EB's were barely touched by the Shivan. Luckily, Sexy got some holds in on them and won the day.
