So this is my first post heroside, as I have only just purchased the GvE edition of the game. I have been playing villains for almost 9 months now. I was advised that for teaming, empath defenders are unmatched in their healthy usefulness, so I decided to create my idea of the ultimate empath defender for teaming. I used slotting for SO's, as that is what the builder lets me do, and it is much less complicated than the current IO system. Let me know what you think! :)

I would at least 3-maybe 4 slot health
and since you picked super speed I would say possible double slot hurdle, it may seem odd but on my ss toons time and time again I have trouble getting over the most simplest walls.
But yes as the guy said before get regen aura sooner, 49 is way way to late.
I hope you will like being an emp...Some people enjoy it, some people get tired of it real fast. Good luck :)

Ok so my empath/electric defender has now reached level 28 (thanks in part to the double xp weekend). I consider it an accomplishment considering I have been playing heroes for about 2 weeks now. Yay me! Anywhoo, I have made some changes to my build design based on things I noticed during gameplay, and the descision to switch to leaping instead of superspeed. Here is the new build:

Where did "Temp Invulnerability" come from? Was that from one of the Epic sets?
This looks like your standard Empathy Defender build give or take. But I don't see any of the Epic pools. Do you know about the special sets of powers you can get for Defenders after level 40?

Gratz on 28! 2XP weekends are great for getting you up and running with a new toon. I just wish I'd had more time to play.
Couple of things:
You really don't need an EndRdx in Combat Jumping. Unslotted it's only like 0.07 eps. You're better off with a Jump instead.
Having an EndRdx in Swift is useless as Swift is an auto power and there doesn't use any End.
Other people may have more to say on the Emp powers. And the only help I can give on the Elec is if you were more offense oriented.
Path of Wrath - Storm/Elec/Elec Defender - 50
Miss Trinidad - Ill/Storm/Ice Controller - 50
Miss Cote d'Ivoire - Dark/Regen/Dark Scrapper - 50
Posey Punk - Grav/Kin/Stone Controller - 50
Mr. Azerbaijan - Kin/Psy Defender - 50
Laccolith - Earth/Rad Controller - 35
Geriatric Justice - Willpower/SS Tanker - 38

Temp Invul and Power Buildup are from the Power Mastery Epic pool.

Good to know, I did look that up later, and yes, either a jump or a defense buff would be a much better slot choice.

Yeah I don't know how that happened, that end reduc should be in temporary invulnerability, but somehow the builder moved it over to swift without me noticing.
Oh, and yes, temporary invulnerability and power build up are from the Power Mastery epic pool.
I actually was somewhat confused about just what the temporary invulnerability power did, as it seemed to me to be a toggle, yet the desription made it sound as though it was a short lived ability with a rapid recharge. If anyone has it and could inform me about just what it actually does, that would really help me decide whether the end reduc are worth it in the power, or if I need more recharge to make it more perma instead. Either way it is a good power that deserves to be 6 slotted IMO.

I did actually consider surprising everyone by taking aim and thunderous blast, but then reconsidered on the thought that no team ever really wants their healer to be out of commision for any period of time. I went with the leadership pool instead.

One thing you might want to consider is skipping health. Your a healer and chances are you will be firing off your healing aura power quite frequently so your health downtime will be very low. Instead of health, maybe take hurdle and sprint as prerequisites for stamina.

Keep Health. Slot the Unique IO from Numina's set. Big regen boost. Just my opinion, feel free to disregard.
Leadership is always a good choice on a defender, and pretty good for emps, who usually have endurance to spare, specially if they take stamina.
Beyond that, build looks good to me.

I would have also suggested to not worry about Clear Mind so early. I found I didn't need it very often in the early levels and got it in the low 20's instead. I personally didn't really see the need for it before that.

Your build depends on the style of play you want to develop for this hero. I have a few emp def and I have split them into all emp and emp with damage. I have to disagree with Swiss ( sorry love ya buddy) lately in some of the newer missions team members are screaming for CM, I also suggest getting the RA's as soon as you can. They are the drug of choice for the team.
I also take TP with every emp I have, it gives me the ability to TP a team member out of a situation before they die.
Good Luck and enjoy!!

I have indeed played on a few teams where we were doing such missions and found CM to be very useful. It is very useful for anti -mez before many of the players can anti-mez themselves. Additionally, the perception bonus comes in very handy versus stealthed opponents.
I have been looking as to just how I can include recall friend into the build. If you have any opinions on how I can do that without majorly compromizing my build that would be awesome. I guess I could replace tesla cage with it, but I do enjoy having that hold to prevent enemies from running away. Otherwise I might just have to wait until really high levels before I can include recall friend into my build.

No harm, no foul on the Clear Mind opinion. I have not found many villains in the past that do much mezing (except Circle of Thorns) at the low levels. I usually get it around 20 - 22, but for recall friend, that is one I get by level 8.
Understand, that if I play an empathy/anything, I make them a straight healer, team player. So I start with
1 - Heal Other
1 - Attack Power (whichever type)
2 - Healing Aura
4 - Absorb Pain
6 - Resurrect/ Recall Friend
8 - Recall Friend/ Resurrect
But again, I am more the full empathy player. Don't solo much with these toons. I think recall friend is a major component of the empathy build. When an issue occurs they have the ability to pull those that fall back to a safe location to start the healing process.

As long as you don't run around with your heal aura on auto and think that you're helping, you'll be alright with whatever build you go with.
