| Need help with Guild wars. |

Hello I need help with Guild wars I just bought the game but it says Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you installed DirectX 8 and an updated video driver. Could anyone help?

Are you sure that is the video card? Did a Google search and just came up with the AMD CPU.

That is your internal RAM drive.
To look up your graphics card you can do the following:
Open the 'run' window (start -> run)
Type in: dxdiag
then click on the tab; display
at device it will say what GC you use.
But for general: when you have found the manufacturer i recommend downloading the latest drivers. Also installing DirectX 9.0c would be an asset. DirectX can be downloaded at microsoft.

That's your CPU, not the video/graphics card. From what you wrote in your first post I guess it's that you're running an old version of DirectX. Try and update that, I hope it'll work then :)

If you got the Guild Wars install CD's, just grab Disc One from any of the campaigns you might have, insert it and a menu should appear, including the option: Install DirectX 9.0
Try that too ;)

Well heres the information that The site admin told me to get.
Name: ATI Technologies Inc. 3D Rage II+PCI
Manufacture: ATI Technologoies Inc.
Chip Type: ATI 3D Rage II+DVD (GT-B2U3)
DAC Type: ATI International DAC
Approx. Total Memory: 2.0 MB
Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (16bit) (60hz)
Monitor: MAG DJ700.
There are 3 things I think thats wrong with it, But I need to be current since If I buy a new memory Card and all I needed was More memory then I waisted 100 bucks.
1. Maybe It might be The Type of Video card im using.
2. See The Approx. Total Memory, My video card might need more memory I think you need 32 MB.
3. Also Where I tays Direct X Fatures on my direct x pack It says As follows:
DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled
Direct3D Acceleration: Not Available?
AGP Texture Acceleration: Not Available?
Please could Someone figure this out I want to play the Game I have enough Ram its just my video card. Thankx to all Who Helped.
Also I found this out It says:
Direct X Version: Directx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) May It be that?
Could a mod or Admin please move this thread to troubleshooting thankx.

Guild Wars Minimum Requirements:
Windows XP/2000/ME/98; Intel Pentium III 800 Mhz or equivalent; 256 MB RAM; CD-ROM Drive; 2 GB Available HDD Space; ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Series Video Card with 32MB of VRAM; 16-bit Sound Card; Internet connection
I checked your card on wiki, and im shocked really:
Specifications for the RAGE II+DVD:
* 60 MHz core
* 60 MHz memory
* 480 MB/s memory bandwidth
* DirectX 5.0
No idea if this is the one you actually have, or they upgraded it, whatever it is, the flaw is simple.
Your videocard dear Sir, is too old.
Any videocard able to run DirectX 8.0 or even better, 9.0 should easily work. This one however is just too old to run such graphics that Guild Wars has, even on lowest.
EDIT:
I thought it would be best to give some more information incase you want to solve it ASAP.
First, see if your Motherboard has an AGP Slot (brown slot usually) or even better, a PCI-E Slot (blue usually)
Plus, give us some more tips if possible, like:
Power Supply (how much Watts, should show on the side with a sticker)
Motherboard Manufacturer and type? (use DxDiag in Start > Run > dxdiag)
RAM How much?
CPU (processor)

Yes, your current videocard is too old to run Guild Wars

I would suggest taking a videocard of 128MB, cards like these come in various shapes and sized, and prices differ, a card of around 30-40 Dollars/Euro's can usually already handle Guild Wars, depending ofcourse on how smooth you want it to run

Also my dad does not want to buy a new video card so what should i do? There may be away to get through this if anyone knows? I bought the game yesturday Excited but It isnt working.

If the game doesn't detect a supported graphics card, it won't start and I doubt you could do anything about it (except changing the code or so^^).
So I guess you won't be able to play GW on that computer unless you upgrade your graphics card (useable ones aren't really expensive nowadays anyway).

Thats a very old card, your going to have to get a btter one sorry, 2 MB just wont cut it, i would reccomend A Radeon 9600 256 MB or higher. Really cheap from Tigerdirect.com
edit: If your willing to go a bit further a Radeon x1600 Runs nicely also and thats PCI-e 256MB

He couldn't give any motherboard information, but he said the word Compaq, which says to me enough.
Compaqs are usually small business computers, not made for gaming, in his case that is. I doubt he could even fit in a bigger videocard like that, or even has PCI-E :S
I'd say go for Geforce, and please oh please, do yourself a favor and save the receipt, i have no idea wether it would fit or not so incase it doesn't, you got the receipt ;)
P.S Some videocards got a ''GS'' version, GS is usually a smaller weaker videocard, but fits in computers like Compaqs.

Yeah, that's probably the better solution^^
Cause I doubt your mainboard will support a new video card (slot, etc) and you might have to patch your mainboard chip in order to fully support the new video card.

I don't know how old you are etc... but it's nearly summer vacation so have you considered getting a vacation job ? Depending on your employer and how much they pay you, you might be ably to get yourself a modest new computer. I have to finance most of my gaming addiction that way maybe it can work out for you too.
Just a thought.

I love guildwars I saw video's on youtube on it also I saw my friend playing it could people post screenshots maybe lol. You know what I noticed Alienware computers use AMD® Athlon™ 64 X2. Almost the same as my computer. So all i need is maybe a new base and video card should work out But Im wondering if i should save 700 bucks and make my parents pay rest its like 1,200 very good computer.
