That does look like it's going to be a lot of fun! And I have a couple of characters who's background story includes some pretty hefty hatred of the Rikti! I know who I'll be getting out to send them packin!

RE: Issue 10

I bet it will go live July 31st, if not, then no later than August 15th.

Cryptic has said they want to get back on track of releasing 3 issues per year and this one seems to be very complete already. They could have been developing this one while i9 was on test and in the completion stages.

It won't need as much test time as i9 because the invention system was a huge change to the game and needed extremely thorough testing for bugs.

This one has got me excited!

Original estimates from players on the main boards (read: not a dev) are guessing maybe 2 months, perhaps-ish?

You don't have an exceedingly large amount of "new tech" that's being intro'd (like mayhems or the auction houses).

Co-op's been in Pocket D before.
A new TF, while always welcome, is not really new tech
The starting invasion has been built up since beta. Started with rikti in beta, had the 5th vs. council when i3 hit, and also the rularuu invasion in i1 or i2 (somewhere in there). So there's some art work and so forth, but nothing "holy never done this before EVAR" kind of thing.

Furthermore:

revamp to RCS is similar to their revamp of Faultline.
A couple of new tilesets (mish maps), like those that came in with Fault.

Probably the thing that took the most work is the new costumes for Rikti, along with all the ships and new stuff in the Rikti War Zone (forevermore called RWZ).

First guess? Perhaps late july to early August for closed beta (remember, that starting with i9, devs said that they'd start all new issues with a closed portion of beta before open beta) and maybe mid to late august for open beta. Then a few weeks of open.. I'll shoot early-mid September for i10.

Aye, I found it as well on the EU site.

I wonder when we'll get (partial) power customization...

I think that a team of two Tankers and six Corruptors would be better. With the occasional Fire/kin Controller or a Dominator.

RE: Issue 10

I like the idea, but I don't particularly like the idea of co-op. Just because we could team up and fight together doesn't mean we should. It all makes sense, but there are other ways it could be implemented? I think it is just a bit too far - once-in-a-while hoiday events are one thing, but I think full time co-op is taking it too far, especially when there is possible co-op in Warburg (I'm not a fan of Warburg either btw. Why would heroes ever turn on each other like that?).

Perhaps instead of actually teaming with one another in the TF the hero team and villain team could work with each other completing seperate objectives. For example, the villains work to shut down the rikti force fields (perhaps in a STF fashion)while the heroes create a diversion to keep the AVs off them. Then the two teams meet (but stay seperate) to take down the final objective and the big baddies. A poor idea, but I am thinking on my feet and you get the picture.

And perhaps instead of working together in the area, they work alongside each other, tolerating each other and letting them get on with it. Then there would be the opportunity for tension to build, and the heroes and villains could challenge each other to duels or something to fight over the right to carry out certain missions (like working as 'mercenaries' for the Vanguard) and the temps/buff they might bring.

I just feel that co-op could have been implemented with a bit for finesse and subtlety rather than just flat out Valantines-day-esque teaming.

Other than that I like the idea, though they seem to be milking Rikti Invasions for all they are worth =)

Zee oh em eff gee. I am so pumped for that! A co-op task force would be awesome, finally brutes and MM's can have decent healers instead of relying on minor heals

RE: Issue 10

Very Interesting Indeed. Finally being able to experience the Rikti War all over again(kinda) is soo cool. Maybe they will launch this with an event where we get to battle the mothership or something. I think that will be cool if its possible. I wonder if the new costume peices is like the Rikti black suited guys I forgot what they are called but I think they look soo cool. I hope they delve deeper into the story like Crey's involvment and the old hero monuments that all over Paragon.

Is the TF the only thing co-opable or are the quest as well?
Ill troller and a MM teaming up is psycho lol. Can't wait to see this Issue.

I like the idea that we will finally be able to get inside that crashed ship. I remember going over that thing inch-by-inch in my earlier days, trying to figure out a way inside. :)

The hints that they gave us implied that if enough pylons were dissabled, we might be able to enter the Rikti Crash ship. So I'll bet good money that there will be an instance in there or TF of sorts. I like the idea of having to fight to gain access to it to.

I like the additional coop zone as well. I have some Villains and Heroes I'd like to play with VG/SG friends and RV is kinda pain in the butt. At least it's not all over every zone. It will be interesting what comes out when we start mixing up the AT's like that.

RE: Issue 10

Now I have to be honest... I have never really cared much about the history of the game's baddies, and I certainly have not been playing long enough to witness any of the previous invasions.

Having said that, I'm really excited about this announcement. It's not like I'm really going to dig up on the Rikti history. But I'm certainly interested in how this will be implemented and how it affects game play.

An invasion means that the Rikti can show up anywhere, anytime and launch an assault on heroes or villains, pretty much the way a GM spawns and just pwns anyone who gets too close. That's exciting IMO, because it creates a sense of urgency. Meaning, chaos when the attack is launched, and then heroes and villains rally to curb the threat. The way a real invasion happens. I truly hope it doesn't get limited to just the RWZ, where you have to go there to witness the invasion. Gimme some random spawns in general zones (appropriately scaled in terms of levels, of course), and some emergency missions that are broadcast on Radio or Scanner, with the occasional siren blare.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but again, I've never experienced an invasion in CoH, so my interest has peaked.

Hobsnob, I like your idea too. The tension is necessary to maintain the realism of the hero vs villain scenario. Being forced to work together, to avoid annihilation. That still leaves room for a little cross talk, a la Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

If you look at some of the screenshots on the official site, they show Rikti right down from Ms Liberty in Atlas Park. So...yeah, pretty much anywhere, anytime. On the plus side, there will probably be level appropriate Rikti in those areas.

I look at it this way... something big & ugly, bigger and uglier than we've ever known has decided to end our existence. I'm more than willing to bet that a "gang-banging" thug would be standing right next to a police officer in the defense of his right to do what he wants (in this case continue to live) I think that the point is that we're not going to run up & hug & play kissy-face, but we will stand shoulder to shoulder and use the abilities we've developed, been blessed with, mutated into, etc. to keep up our own personal persuit of happiness.

Did Nas get possessed by F Scott Fitzgerald or Edgar Allen Poe or Mark Twain or some other great writer?! That is some nice analogy-ing.

Naw. Hero-1 and the others died to give the city/world time to gather up forces strong enough to hold back the larger invasion force that's coming soon. It's my belief, that with the combined effort of the Heroes of Paragon City and the...(ahem) Citizens of the Rogue Islands, we will make their final efforts MATTER!
